Need more info on this. M280X is better than GTX860M right?
*
According to benchmark is indeed is slight better. But do note gtx860m maxwell will be cooler than amd. It consume less power also so better battery life.
And even though AMD APU and GPU tend to have better benchmark score, it is very weird than in actual real life performance, a lot of game or software is favoring Intel + Nvidia sweat.gif

AW15 pricing has been adjusted. Huge difference. Processor is no longer configurable and all removable software is now excluded as default, however the pricing remains 4999.
*
I think it is better you ask for a quotation from the sales rep directly. The price shown in the website always has error. They didn't bother to change it sweat.gif

Verified with them earlier and the 4760 quotation is no longer available. Now it is drastically increase to 5999 for the same spec (i7-4710hq+970 without adobe & downloadable software).

In hindsight, I should not have hesitated.
*
I guess the promotion ended. Well if it is really the case, AW is a NO GO now. 6k you can get gtx970m or 980m already, with max ram up to 32GB. AW just support up to 16gb and it got a slow hdd 5400rpm doh.gif
Get other brand then. smile.gif

Hi, i wanted to ask which one is better Lenovo Y50 or Acer VN7? is there any shops provide 0% installment plan?
*
IMO, I would go for Acer. Cause Lenovo screen is bad for me. Its response time is just 48hz.

Saw the opposite in china tech forum. And they quote the AMD APU is stronger than intel HD graphics.
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-M280X-vs-GeForce-GTX-860M

how does AMD notebooks perform anyway? They are so rare in the market @@
*
AMD APU win Intel HD Graphics in most case. We're comparing the discrete GPU not the integrated one.
My old hp pavilion dm4 is using AMD GPU. Well the performance is okay, but it is a bit hotter than other laptop IMO.
Seldom laptop is using AMD cause it is hotter and demand more power when on usage.
Nvidia is more favorable cause it is cooler and use less power.

hello...i want to ask
Alienware 15 i7-4710HQ, GTX970m(3GB), 15.6" FHD IPS matte 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, multi-color backlit KB, Graphic Amp. port RM4760
Alienware 15 i7-4710HQ, AMD R9-295X(4GB), 15.6" FHD IPS matte 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, multi-color backlit KB, Graphic Amp. port RM4688

this really is this price ??it different from alienware website..where to buy it ??
and the graphic card is it got MXM slot ???
*
Where do you get that price ? Yesterday someone mentioned he asked for a quotation from dell sales rep, the price is 5k++, I think there is no more promotion already.
And no. The new AW is using soldered CPU + GPU.
If there is MXM slot GPU, why do they need to have Graphic Amplifier ? Just replace the GPU will do right ? smile.gif

it is possible ..they have a lot of stock??so they sell them self ?if really is that price..seem like quite cheap
*
Well you can always as for a quotation from them. Just make sure the default warranty (NBD) is present.
There is good and bad, if I'm not mistaken, they are using dual channel 8GB ram (4x2). So if next time time you want 16gb dual channel, you need to get 2x8GB ram.
The hdd is 5400rpm not 7200rpm.
But if you can get that price, it is quite worth it IMO.

I hsnt been follow notebook news much since I got the Y580 2 years back. Thinking of upgrading now so done some quick search and ended up with Acer V Nitro and Y50.. thn did a lil more diggin sum say shld wait for refershed Y50 with 960m or wait for more options wit 965m hmm.gif

I'm halfway readin this thread btw.. knew many already asked this same question so excuse me for asking again  laugh.gif  cus I might've miss sum interestin points

- Should I upgrade now or wait, if my budget is under 3.5k
- Still deciding Acer or Lenovo tho .. the only thing I dun like bout the Y50 is the TN panel.. also I prefer FHD thn 4k.

thanks
*
If you want to get it before GST, then now is the time to get. If you're willing to pay more after GST, then you may wait for new gen GPU. The price will be higher though.
IMHO, 960m improvement is not much compared to 860m. You still can't play high demanding game on high / ultra settings 1080p. (Eg: Watch Dogs, Witcher 3, AC etc)
Lenovo Y50 screen is not good. Its response time is only 48hz if I'm not mistaken. It is lower than all other laptop screen which is 60hz by default.
RM3.5k budget no need to go for 4k though. As you said. Currently there is no movie in 4k reso and the gpu for RM3.5k budget laptop definitely can't support 4k gaming. Even 2k is quite impossible.
Acer V Nitro is best bang of buck, but Lenovo is thinner.

Acer Nitro with GTX 960m review coming soon:

Nice. But IMO the performance different is not much for me to spend the extra $ to get it. 4720 vs 4710 in real life you can't notice any different. 960m vs 860m performance increase also not worth the extra $.
If it is <RM100 compared to the current price then I may go for it, otherwise I think no

I won't go for MSI GE60 model. It has heat issue. If I'm really rich and want MSI, I will only go for GT series. Other model is not worth it. (even though GT series is also not worth it. sweat.gif)
gtx960m for me is just a rebranding of gtx860m.

There got other NB brand for MXM slot aslo: "MSI GS30"

The GS30 Shadow's docking station turns the portable notebook into a versatile gaming PC. It features a PCIe 3.0 x16 interface that is eight times faster than PCIe 2.0 x4 and utilizes its bandwidth to take full advantage of a desktop graphics card. The dock also offers a SATA slot for 3.5" HDD. The dock allows you to expand and upgrade your graphics card and hard drive. The dock also features headphone and microphone jacks, four USB 3.0 interfaces, and a Killer Gigabyte Ethernet port.
*
I think MSI GS30 is not MXM type laptop. Shouldn't MXM type laptop be in the laptop itself ? The dock station is using desktop gpu. MXM type gpu should be mobile gpu.
FYI, the dock station is exactly like the Alienware graphic amplifier.

P/S: What is the use of MXM if you got a graphic amplifier doh.gif If you can switch your mobile gpu in your laptop, why still need to plug in to a gaming dock to use desktop gpu. Vice versa

So which one is worth buying as of now, I wanna get a laptop before GST kicks in? ASUS G551JM? or Acer V5 Nitro (is there a few models, I noticed some have SSD, some doesn't have). Just to clarify things up, can you please state the specs along? Thanks.
*
Do the homework yourself. There are a lot of spec listed on the FIRST PAGE. Acer V Nitro still best bang of buck cause of the dual fan design. It is using SSHD also. Its screen is also better

There are 2 variant. One is old stock and another one is new stock I believe. 4gb variant comes with 12gb of ram.

i like playing game plugged in eventhough its full charged

cuz i think battery cant give enough power to gc. like when i switch off power to my z5 the quality/detail drops. when i power on back its smoothes out
*
The reason why you're getting lesser detail and drop in performance is because of your power settings. Most of the time, when you're using battery, your power settings will be in power saving or balanced mode. And in nvidia, there is also a settings to switch to lower performance when battery mode is on. There is also a settings in GeForce Experience that will limit your fps and performance when battery mode is on. Just switch those settings to normal or high performance and you can play games on battery mode. But don't expect a long battery life if you do it.

Use a voltage regulator or similar product. Even most of the PC gamer will use it to maintain a constant voltage and to prevent damage during short circuit smile.gif

even after power off, in balanced mode still same case. i guess the setting is like that.

and where to get cheap voltage regulator? ic so many not less rm80 shocking.gif
*
You need to change the nvidia settings also. Not only the power option. Power option doesn't affect much on your gpu but cpu.
For voltage regulator, I won't get a cheap one. I will get a good quality one instead. It has been a while since I used it, maybe 7 years before ? I can't suggest you any good one now cause didn't follow it for quite long time already. Head toward Hardware section and ask there. smile.gif

then i think the acer v15 nitro black is better cause is IPS. I went to the store to compare ..... if gonna pay same amount i rather have ips 1080p 15.6 inch rather than tn panel.

even if it's a 860m vs a 960m  hmm.gif
just wondering though, do any of these laptop monitors come capable of amd freesync technology ?
*
I think there is no display with amd freesync in laptop yet. As far as I know. Even it has, it will be more expensive.

P.S: gtx960m is a rebrand, it doesn't has much different with the gtx860m

ah thx for the clarification  notworthy.gif
by the way i read it's hard to open up the acer, so just wondering has anyone tried replacing the original 1tb hdd in it for a SSD alternative ? e.g. 512gb or 256gb ssd. Also does it have m.2 ? Or how can i check without opening myself  hmm.gif
For example this is a guide showing the innards for the acer v15 and how to open it
http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/acer-aspi...1g-disassembly/

inside you can clearly see where the ssd is located.
but the model i got was only with 1tb hdd, not the version with ssd+1tb combo, so not sure about the hdd ports i got available, also whether it is possible to add in a ssd similar in the screenshots in the link i posted above. hmm.gif

Also i don't have a optical drive in the laptop, so not sure if adding a second hdd into the laptop is possible here.
*
Like what above said. Do note m2 SSD is very expensive, especially if it is PCIE interface

my laptop i bought was Rm3700 GST inclusive. So this newer one is 3999 GST inclusive. And from your benchmark, it doesn't seem to be a big difference for me to want to shell out 300 ringgit more for it. Not to mention it also is only 2gb vram  hmm.gif  If it was 4gb i would be more inclined, but not for the same 2gb vram for sure  laugh.gif
The 4gb vram 960 gtx cost rm 4599 inclusive of GST. definitely out of my budget  rclxub.gif

Also i heard the Illegear Z5 which has roughly the same specs has said they will not add in GST price until middle of this year. So could be cheaper deal than Nitro in the Rm 4xxx bracket  hmm.gif
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3395857/+1380
*
I think no point keep comparing because you already got your unit smile.gif
For me, RM3700 is way too expensive for Acer V Nitro, especially it is still using gtx860m. Last year is only RM3399 for gtx860m, i7 4710HQ and 12gb ram. The new i7 4720HQ is just 10hz faster than the previous one, which you won't notice any different in real life usage.
Also, make sure your Acer is using gtx860m maxwell version. If it is kepler then sad case for you. doh.gif Kepler tend to be hotter and consume more power.
For SSD part, if you want 256gb m2 SSD, I think it is about RM700+. If it is PCIE interface it is about RM800+. Both EXCLUDE GST. sweat.gif
