Heyy guys. I bought my Acer V Nitro about a week ago. It was great so far. Only one thing makes me worry. Is it safe to keep plugging in when I play a game even my battery fully charged?

i like playing game plugged in eventhough its full charged

cuz i think battery cant give enough power to gc. like when i switch off power to my z5 the quality/detail drops. when i power on back its smoothes out

The reason why you're getting lesser detail and drop in performance is because of your power settings. Most of the time, when you're using battery, your power settings will be in power saving or balanced mode. And in nvidia, there is also a settings to switch to lower performance when battery mode is on. There is also a settings in GeForce Experience that will limit your fps and performance when battery mode is on. Just switch those settings to normal or high performance and you can play games on battery mode. But don't expect a long battery life if you do it.

Use a voltage regulator or similar product. Even most of the PC gamer will use it to maintain a constant voltage and to prevent damage during short circuit smile.gif

You need to change the nvidia settings also. Not only the power option. Power option doesn't affect much on your gpu but cpu.
For voltage regulator, I won't get a cheap one. I will get a good quality one instead. It has been a while since I used it, maybe 7 years before ? I can't suggest you any good one now cause didn't follow it for quite long time already. Head toward Hardware section and ask there. smile.gif

acer nitro ips screen much better than asus rog notebook, but think also suffer from the yellowish/greenish problem. I need to go colour management to go personalisation to reduce saturation further and up brightness, reduce contrast, etc. now quite smooth to the eye, but still the white is very strong to the eye.

If you have the money for a 15", thin, light, and high performance notebook, you should wait for MSI GS60, Gigabyte P35 v3 and the new illegear(based on Clevo 650 & 651).

It will be based on GTX 970M(MSI GS60, Gigabyte P35W v3, and Illegear) & GTX 980M(Gigabyte P35X v3, and Illegear)
But it's going to cost you RM6k and above though.
*
the problem though is 6k + is outside my budget .... i settled for a home laptop which isn't highend, but falls closer to budget home pc that doubles up as a good performer albeit 2014 tech.

This is why for me i felt that the Acer Black Nitro was the best choice. Got mine for roughly 3.7k Probably could have gotten much cheaper from lowyat forum i suppose rolleyes.gif

the model i got was 8gb of ddr3 .... the 12gb version was the older model with the older cpu which they phased out. they had a 16gb version, but it cost 4.1k+ ..... Also they had a ssd+1tb hd combo also 4.1k+ the ssd was 128gb i think, but considering you also get a 1tb that shouldn't be an issue.

Was kinda out of my budget, so i settled for the single 1tb hdd version. No optical drive so there probably isn't an option to later add in a ssd myself later, well unless i ditch the 1tb and use a ssd instead hmm.gif (but doubt i'd do that)

ytlay Please update the GPU for all three

Y50-70 : 4 GB GTX 860m RM 3499
V Nitro : 2 GB GTX 860m RM 3399
G551JM :
2 GB GTX 860m RM 3499
4 GB GTX 860m RM 4099
*
yeah but the y50-70 is using a tn panel right ? That is why i preferred the Nitro. As a gamer i do consider 4gb of vram to be important to have, but my laptop is mostly for home use general computing. So i'm not going to max out settings, so i reckon i can use 2gb vram for high settings or medium doh.gif

basically a nitro alternative with a refresh of the gpu with even 4gb vram at that.

tempting but i was kinda over budget when i bought nitro, so i don't think for me the few extra for the illegear would had been in my ballpark. But it's interesting there was a very good option close to it though, for others smile.gif

Lenovo Y50-70 5944-2222 15.6" Laptop/ Notebook

Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ-2.6GHz | 1TB SATA+SSHD(8G), 12GB DDR3 RAM | NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX960M

OS: Windows 8.1

The new acer inspire v15 nitro black edition has a similar spec except the RAM is now 8 instead of 12gb. Also the graphics is the older Nvidia 860m GTX for roughly the same price.

and you confirm it's an IPS not tn panel ? (the older models i've seen were all tn panel). Because if that is the case then the Lenovo Y50-70 would win hands down.

The acer does have a model with a 128gb + 1tb hdd that comes with 12gb of ram, but that costs 4.1k +

So in the 3.6 k ish bracket the lenovo wins because of
1. better spec for same price as the acer
2. not acer brand (hard to buy anything acer these days especially laptop considering their past issues)

only minor quible left is whether the lenovo comes with a SSD option preferably 256-512gb option with m.2 support of course hmm.gif
