Yeah.. and like there is a lot of BMW 523i on the road... not. sweat.gif

and if you are using 225/55 R17, that is not a common size. High performance tyres don't come in that size either as the profile for the sidewall is too think for high performance.

You can find tyres this size, just that there is not much choices available. Michelin only has 2 tyres with this spec, one normal car tyre, one SUV tyre.

It's not about whether there is XV or not on the road. It's the size. They don't make High Performance tyres for tyres with high profile size walls since the flexing of the size walls diminishes performance. That practically takes 1/3 of tyre choices away. Then it comes another blow from the angle of cheap tyres. They don't make cheap high profile 17 inch tyres either and that takes another 1/3 off your choices.

What you are left with is a middle tier tyre. There are 11 tyre models for both cars and SUV in Michelin Malaysia in which there are sizes for only 2 models that fit the XV. Of course this is Michelin but I won't be surprised if the same is applicable to all the other tyre manufacturers too.

A quick check on Goodyear returned 4 available tyres in 225/55/17 in which one of them is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 which is pretty good but you still can't get the top of the line Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 2.

I agree with the profile spec for performance tyre.... lower the better...
simple solution = get a bigger rim smile.gif

for stock XV spec, it would be wierd for any1 looking for a high performance tyre that comes with 55 series profile...
its an SUV tyre, higher side wall is expected, so low-mid spec is good enough...
even if there are higher quality model available, i dont think any1 would buy it either... or maybe a few la...

Unless you are willing to sacrifice the Overall diameter, getting bigger rims would mean pushing past 225 size into super expensive tyre category. 225/55/17 can upsize to either 225/50/18 (weirder size, even less choice) or 245/45/18 (whoo hoo.. super expensive tyre category). Don't even think about 19s..

yup, altho expensive, at least owners who wants to use low profile tyre have a choice...

as a normal driver like me, and im sure to most of XV owners, i just cant see a good reason putting a low profile tyre on a car like an XV...
when buying an xv, im sure the driver know what to expect already....and sporty handling is not one of them...
unless for show la.. then money shouldnt be prob, most importanrt, car have large rims smile.gif

agree... just use normal tyre would be just fine....

i'd rather spent my money on a cross bars, Yakima roof basket/rack etc... make my xv look more like an offroader than a sport sedan wannabe...

would prefer to be on normal recommended tyres at this point of time, as i would rather look at other items to improve on such as stability and such...

XV might "feel" less stable due to its height and higher profile tyre...
but...... ok lah... still perform better than any other suvs

I do agree. Went on a roadtrip to KB recently. Dare not push the car at corners (be it a sharp turn or a long sweeping one) as it does feel 'unstable' at times or its something i need to get used to.

Thanks for the link bro, but a point to ponder, would our XV reacts as good as the Forrester?

yup.. the feel might just be psychological...
need to adapt and be confident enough with what a fulltime AWD can do...

I wonder if Motor Image or Subaru or anyone would/could organize a driving class/event for XV owners. I mean it would be good for us to know the XV's potentials and limitations, in a closed and controlled manner, monitored by professionals.

What do you guys think?

had the same idea with steep slope, sandpit, knee high pond, uneven ramp etc..
do it at an open car park/space, so others can see what a subaru XV can really do....
