LUMUT: Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Auxiliary Ship Bunga Mas Enam (BM6) set sail to the Indian Ocean this morning.

The logistics-assistance ship has been roped in to help in the SAR operation of the missing MH370 aircraft.

The ship left the RMN operations jetty here about 8.40am.

BM6 is the seventh ship which had been sent to the Indian Ocean.

It is expected to arrive at the southern corridor on Apr 25 for a period of three months.

Saab Offers Info on Gripen Lease to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR — Saab has confirmed it has submitted proposals to the Malaysian government for the lease of Gripen fighters but said it wasn’t responding to a formal request for information.

Company executives said they delivered proposals earlier this year but wouldn’t reveal how many ex-Swedish Air Force C/D model aircraft are involved or the length of a possible lease deal.

Local Malaysian company DRB Hicom Defence Technologies will be its partner. The two companies already team on Saab’s bid to secure an airborne early warning aircraft program in Malaysia.

The Gripen fighter jet maker is the only one of the potential suppliers for Malaysia’s requirement for a multirole aircraft to at least partially declare its hand after the government in Kuala Lumpur effectively stalled a program to purchase jets outright and encouraged competitors to come up with a more affordable solution.

The new aircraft were meant to replace 18 MiG-29s due to go out service in the next couple of years.

Without a replacement, the Malaysian Air Force fast jet fleet would comprise F/A-18 D and Sukhoi Su-30s.

Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet, Dassault’s Rafale, the Eurofighter Typhoon and Sukhoi have previously been involved in bidding for the program when it was a straight purchase.

One industry executive said there had been no official request for proposals and no timelines for leasing proposals to be submitted.

Speaking at the Singapore air show recently, Boeing’s regional business development executive, Jim Armington, conceded that politics, not Air Force requirements, was driving the timing of any decision.

“The fighters do need to be replaced from the point of view of the Air Force. But it’s a national decision, it’s domestic politics and economics. Despite the concerns and urgency from the Air Force, there are other factors at play,” he said.

Speaking at a briefing with reporters at the Defense Services Asia exhibition here April 15, Hakan Buskhe, Saab’s CEO, said the through-life costs of the single- engine Gripen are the lowest of any of the aircraft competing for the deal.

“We are offering a performance-based lease solution which guarantees availability of the Gripen,” he said.

Saab already has lengthy experience in leasing Gripen C and D model jets to the Czech and Hungarian air forces. Even some rival executives acknowledge the Swedes could have an impressive offer if judging by the recent renewal of the Czech lease.

Among the other potential bidders, Boeing is reckoned to have lodged proposals for an F/A-18 Super Hornet lease. It has the advantage of being the incumbent fighter supplier to the Malaysian Air Force.

The speculation is that Boeing offered a 10-year deal at $300 million a year, but company executives at the Singapore show said they didn’t recognize those figures and would not say whether a deal had been submitted or not.

The company declined an interview request at the DSA show.

A BAE offer based on second-hand Eurofighter Tranche 1 Typhoons failed to materialize this week as expected, but sources said it could be submitted soon.

At one point the British company, which represents the Eurofighter partners Airbus Defence and Finmeccanica, considered using Spanish Tranche 1s but have opted for Royal Air Force jets.

Dassault’s plans to address the Malaysian affordability issues are not known at this time.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Setelah membeli helikopter serang Apache, TNI Angkatan Darat berencana mengakusisi helikopter serbu Black Hawk buatan Sikorsky Aircraft dan Chinook Ch-47 yang dibuat Boeing Rotorcraft Systems dari Amerika Serikat.

Pembelian ini melalui skema kredit ekspor melalui Kementerian Pertahanan.

"Pembelian ini merupakan usulan TNI AD (berdasarkan surat KASAD No. B/455/II/2013)," tulis Kepala Dinas Penerangan TNI AD Brigjen Andika Perkasa kepada Liputan6.com di Jakarta Selasa (15/4/2014).

Mantan Komandan Korem 023/Kawal Samudera Sibolga ini menambahkan, rencana membeli 2 tipe helikopter ini untuk menambah armada helikopter TNI AD yang masih dirasa kurang. Pembelian ini diperuntukkan pada perencanaan strategis atau Renstra 2015-2019.

"Rencana pembelian helikopter Chinook dan Black Hawk oleh Kementerian Pertahanan adalah Black Hawk sebanyak 17 unit dan Chinook 3 unit," ucap pria murah senyum itu.

navy susah mau kata siapa paling kuat..
tapi yang pasti Britain dan USA dari dulu lagi melabur untuk navy macam orang gila, sejak kebelakangan ni china pun dah gila melabur dalam navy diaorang,, dah la Malaysia perairan dia dekat sungguh dengan China..

DSA 2014 Naval News - 63m FMPV Trimaran

North Sea Boats (PT. Lundin) and SAAB working on an improved 63m FMPV Trimaran

At DSA 2014, the 14th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference currently held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Indonesian shipyard North Sea Boats (PT. Lundin) and SAAB are showing an updated model of the 63m FMPV Trimaran design ordered by the Indonesian Navy.

Talking to Navy Recognition during DSA 2014, a SAAB representative explained that the Swedish company is planning to fit its new Sea Giraffe 1X 3D radar higher up in the mast for better radar coverage and less limitation because of the curvature of the Earth. This is possible because the new radar is only 150 kilograms. This explains the quite unique shape of the newly designed mast onboard the FMPV (Fast Missile Patrol Vessel) Trimaran. The mast would integrate the radar, the ESM and the communication systems.

Following the accidental destruction of the first-of-class ship KRI Klewang shortly after its launch in 2012, SAAB and North Sea Boats have now signed a partnership for the project. SAAB is planning to offer this turnkey solution to both TNI AL (Indonesian Navy) and for export under the name "Stealth FAC" (Stealth Fast Attack Craft).

According to the SAAB representative, the new FMPV Trimaran would be fitted with
- 4x RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles
- 1x BAE Systems 40Mk4 gun under a stealth cupola
- A stern ramp to deploy a 12 meters RIB
- SAAB's 9LV combat management system
- SAAB's Ceros 200 radar and optronic tracking system
- SAAB's TactiCall Integrated Communications System

The original class (KRI Klewang) was supposed to be fitted with mostly Chinese weapons and systems. PT Lundin representatives at DSA 2014 told Navy Recognition that officially, the Indonesian Navy is still evaluating which weapons and sensors should be fitted onboard the updated Trimaran design.

RBS15 Mk3 is a fire-and-forget, subsonic cruise type missile with all weather capability with a range in excess of 200 Km.

The lighter Sea Giraffe 1X 3D radar allowed naval architects to design a higher mast to improve radar performance.
      
Construction of a new 63m FMPV Trimaran started in February 2014 at the North Sea Boats facility in Indonesia. The newly designed ship should be launched 24 months from now. According to SAAB, a future version may be fitted with an anti-submarine warfare suite (weapons + sensors).

According to a BAE Systems Bofors representative at DSA 2014, this could be the first export case for the new 40Mk4 naval gun system, even though the company is in discussion with other countries as we speak.

We learned that the current order from TNI AL is for 4 vessels, but overall close to 30 units could ultimately be produced for TNI AL alone.
