45 minutes in three times a week?
or
30 minutes everyday.

Some say 45 minutes is to lose weight (actually 30-45).
30 minutes for maintaining weight.

I've been doing 30...so I think I need to change it.

What do experts here say?

Doing cardio everyday is not optimal imo unless you want to be ripped for a bodybuilding competition and then you must have suffidient muscle to afford to lose some due to cardio. You're overdoing it.
3 times a week, 20 mins of moderately high intensity cardio is sufficient. Look up HIIT on bb.com.

HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training

oh yes...it does
Overly long cardio sessions, burns muscles

but if i'm not mistaken HIIT,doesn't
Somethinga bout HIIT being so fast, intense and tiring, the muscle doesn't get affected because you'd stop before it eats the muscle.

dunno if i got it right anot, the last time i read that was 2 years ago. tongue.gif

QUOTE

However, if you are attempting to re-shape your body by building muscle and shedding body fat, I don’t believe running is the best form of cardiovascular exercise. Running burns a lot of calories but it is also very destructive in terms of muscle damage. Running induces high cortisol levels that circulate for days after, and this will impede the anabolic effect of weight training.

With all do respect to bodybuilders, I think bodybuilders routine is NOT suitable
for non-bodybuilders such as people who want to lose or wants fitness.

The eating habit is different.
Fitness has to diet and eat less....bodybuilders vice versa.

Okay.... i want you to think. I shall now begin. Repeat after me.

Muscle..... tissue with a high metabolic rate.

More muscle ............ higher metabolic rate.

Higher metabolic rate ............... greater capacity for ....... fat burninggggggggg.

Weight training PWNS aerobics anyday. Aerobics burn fat only during the session.
Weight training done intensely will spike your metabolism up like crazy even 2 hours after you're done.

Now............... weight training ..... pwns aerobics.

Aerobics...... don't build muscle. Weight training builds muscle. Read........ repeat again by reading from top.

with all due respect, you need to understand what being fit means.

being fit simply means that you are in good physical condition regardless of size and weight.

if you want to lose weight, weightlifting is the best choice, just because someone lifts weights doesnt mean they're body builders. just because a body builder tells you that weight lifting > running for weight loss doesnt mean he's telling you to bulk up pickup an austrian accent and go "i'll be back"(arnold schwazzeneger... if you didnt get it you need to watch "terminator ,2,3"), he's simply telling you that muscle burns fat, more muscle burns fat faster.

again you need to understand what fitness means, fit: in good health, fitness: the condition of being physically fit. -oxford dictionary: advanced learner's dictionary

i'll agree, body builders live a different lifestyle from everyone else. i'd never pay that much money to eat that much and that often, i'd just go to the mandrin or shang and whack a buffet tongue.gif

Hmm....so does that mean activities like gymnastics, dance or martial arts are actually self limiting in terms of building muscle mass due to the high cardio rate? Though you do get much more power from what you have.

one thing i know gymnasts engage in frequent short bouts of intense physical activity. it's anaerobic. besides, only the mesomorphs get to have the really big built in gymnastics and comparison should be done among us with all gymnasts instead of the elitists few.

When I mention fitness...the biggest different between a bodybuilder and
a non-bodybuilder is the DIET.
What they eat.
Bodybuilder eat more than a non-bodybuilder kan?
That's what I'm refering to.

Don't need to patronize and show you're a genius person la by using the dictionary to prove your point doh.gif

Haiyaa...I'm trying hard posting here without patronizing anybody or
offended anybody.
Still got misunderstood.

WITHOUT..I repeat..WITHOUT eating more such as supplements etc.
Not to become a bodybuilder but just want to lose weight since
you guys mentioned that muscle burns fat faster.

What are the routines?
Repetitions etc?

well if i were going to a gym, i'd ask a trainer there for advice. since the trainer would be able to meet me face to face and get an idea of what i have to work with, he would be better informed on how to advice me of what i should do and what would work best.

but if you dont want to ask a trainer for advice, i'd say since you probably dont have much experience with weights and such, start of with the easier simple stuff like bicep curls, pushups, pullups, squats and crunches. basicly stuff that is easy to do right and hard to mess up with bad posture and such.

someone else would probably be better able to advice you than i am, so i'll leave it to them to further advice you.

Yeah, what do they know. They think bodybuilding are everything. Omg, I think these bodybuilders wannabe forumers should just go fly kite.

I recommend that you go for aerobics classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, go for Pilates classes. On Saturday and Sunday, wear pink polo shirts with your collar up.

Simpletons like us who aren't bodybuilding wannabes don't need supplement. Hell, we aren't trying to be big like those muscle bound Michelin Man. We don't even need to change our diet. Hell, in fact we can survive on air and water alone. But for fear of collapsing the local food industry, we should resume our daily intake of saturated fats and mythic amounts of empty high glycemic index carbohydrates food such as white rice and white bread and a generous dosage of Teh Ais daily even though we don't need that much calories for energy to begin with.

Hell, I say we should just start a separate thread and ban all the bodybuilding wannabes from coming in and spouting their obviously working routines which can be applied to everyone regardless of their eating habits and lifestyle because it just works and is frequently used by athletes the world over not to mention it is scientifically sound. After all, we're just trying to agitate the bodybuilding wannabes here and prove that limp deek weak arse like us don't deserve to be educated by someone who speaks from their own experience rather than from their own arse like us.

At the end of the day, I just want you to come in and tell me my routine works despite the fact that my physique has stayed the same for the last 30 years. boo hoo hoo.

p.s. We just know more than all you bodybuilders wannabe who spend hours everyday updating yourself on sports science and nutrition.

p.p.s No offence, I'm just stating my opinion. The no offence magic word has just voided me of any responsibilites whatsoever because it's a magic word. Just like buttering you up before spitting at you.

I didn't take offense at this post bro, but the way you posted it, it can be taken into a different context by other members.

I guess it's subjective. You shouldn't have used the capital letters in the "NOT" because it sounded as something decisive and set in stone. Since we're all regulars here, you included, it's cool with me but some people might still take offense at it.

so i believe ull grow muscle too flex.gif
i dun have links to backup these thou.....just common science there tongue.gif
me noob too....

bout routines.....check Obese thread...or few other thread.....
or bb.com on transformation...
