Hi guys, last year I purchased a Yamaha YPS 1600 soundbar. I'm very happy with it so far but I want to make some upgrades. Below are my ideas:-

1. Would like to add rear speakers. (What speakers would you recommend which is good and affordable rather than the Yamaha Musiccast 20?
2. What subwoofer should I use?
3. How can I achieve a Dolby Atmos setup?
4. What will be the best configuration for the entire setup?

Appreciate your feedback on this. Thanks, guys.

hi,

1. for surround, the Musiccast 20 is the only way to add back speaker as the soundbar does not support audio output. the musicast is a propriety system therefore you cant use any bluetooth or wireless speaker as your back speaker.

2. you can use any subwoofer as the soundbar has a dedicated subwoofer output. if your budget permits, you can even add a very high end sub from SVS or JL audio. it all depends on your budget.

3. Atmos is not possible as the soundbar does not support Atmos processing.

4. the highest you can achieve is to add Musicast 20 (RM1900x2) and dedicated subwoofer (RM2k) but with that price, you could get a dedicated AV amp and Q acoustics 5.1 speaker.

assuming that you get the musicast 20 + Sub, it will cost you about RM5k+. even with this, you would not be getting a good full surround as the front left, center, right is being emulated by the soundbar.

you can get a full 5.1 Q acoustic speakers for about rm5k and a dedicated AV amp for about rm1.7. this will be much better than adding Musicast 20 + sub.

Few simple steps to start.

1. Use your avr auto calibration to run for few points as instructed in your AVR
2. Than use SPL meter or handphone app SPL to check for all speakers and subs are 75db.

After doing step 1 and 2, it should be quite decent.

Next step will need to measure like using REW software. Depend on what equipment you want to use. Many different out in the market. Free software is REW, if you have audsessey it has its own app to do it. You need a calibration mic to do this. Something like umik1 will do. There are more accurate and expensive mic too. Is fun to play with.

1. If i play 7.1 content, how to the receiver distinguish it is front height setting or 7.1 surround setting.

2. If i play 5.1 content, how do i get full 7.1 surround works, is it with Dolby pro Logic 2Z? what IF my content is DTS format, how does it works

The important thing is the mic that comes with the AVR. The rest audessey will do the calibration.

You make it sound like it's impossible to find the manual on the internet, it only takes 20 seconds - https://www.denon.co.uk/uk/product/homecine...eceiver/avr4310
