I'm in the midst of picking Raytech tint, what would be the good spec to repeal the sunlight heat sufficiently?

I trust I have to look at infrared rejection rate right? What's the minimum threshold?
*
Depending on what is your budget. There is really no minimum threshold, just what you going to expect with your budget. Highest VLT (clearest tint) with good heat resistant or Low VLT (Darker tint) which normally comes with better heat resistant than high VLT tint?

For Raytech, the highest R series tint with the name Ultra 70 for Front Windscreen has problem with smart tag. The 2nd highest range Q series seems ok with smart tag. Raytech is quite costly tho if you go for the high range tints.

Thanks for the replies. Budget is indeed a constraining factor to me.

I'm thinking of going with 58% VLT and 70% IRR as a compromise. Will this do?

As this package actually comes with the purchase of a car, I have to top up RM 800 for this spec. Would this be reasonable? The listed price for this spec is RM 1,800 though.
*
There are 5 range for Raytech tint. The lowest price A series listed IRR is 65% and 2nd lowest price F series is 75%. As mentioned Raytech price is quite premium, the tint is not bad tho.

But for RM1800, you can try do some hard nego again, its a very high price for a 70% IRR tint.

Is it a new tint?

If it is, wait for a few weeks for it to sit or dry properly, once cured, the glare might be gone or diminished to an acceptable level.

Many ppl encountered that with certain tints due to tint thickness, material, types (glare differs between tints), etc. Once dried out and sits properly, glare will diminished drastically or gone.

Some thick tint can also cause this. Different tint materials, demister thickness, improper installation can cause this too. But if it is a new tint, then wait till it cured properly in a few weeks (especially under hot sun) to see if it reduced. We can still see demister line glare in most case but usually it is diminised to minimum but not totally.

If the tint material has strong anti-glare feature, it can reduced this further.

If all else failed even after cured, then for me, either I live with it or I removed and tint with a different proven brand tint for the demister screen. A good brand especially for demister will worked and last for a long time and removing demister tint has a risk of damaging the demister line. So I always choose the best quality tint for the rear demister to avoid these issue.

Hi all

Recently I just got Raytech tint but somehow overlooked in certain parts.

Now I want to know if Raytech actually install their tint by removing my old tint?

So how I can check I am using Raytech tint? Got any logos or tint code?
*
Usually when they install tint, they will removed the old one UNLESS you tell them to specifically double tint.

If can, we should try to tint at their own branded shop (Raytech does have their own tint facilities), if you use a 3rd party that installed many type of brands, its really a guess.

Also if you tint raytech even using 3rd party, you should get a warranty card. Official raytech even thru their partners should also get a Raytech warranty card. You can check the warranty card with Raytech customer service to confirm you have tinted with their partners. Their sales or customer service are quite responsive.

If I am not wrong, as long you tinted with their branches or partners, any Raytech shop would honor the warranty. So try call or email their HQ, they should respond. When I looking for tints info, I emailed them b4. They responded quite fast with emails, whatsapp and finally even phone calls.

Hi bro, thanks you for the explanation. Yes it is new tint and it is almost one month ( tinted on 18th Jan 2024 ). Glare effect still same as day 1

brand wise, it is a 3M Crystalline series

The tint shop shared that so far not many ppl complaint for my car model Honda City GN2 ( current model ). But then one of their staff also encounter this issue ( but with different series called 3M Ceramic )
*
Haha....I just recheck my 2 months old tint (Irispro highest series DX) this morning at 6.30am ++....and.....it has glare just like yours, oh...maybe not as bad as yours, slightly better than the autodim picture. Mine can see the thin light glare on each line, but just on the lines, not flaring upwards on each lines like yours. Old car, no auto-dim, just direct clear view of the rear demister.

Note that mine is re-tinted tints (old car) removed old VKool and tint the new one. The new tint is way thicker at near to 4mm vs 2mm of VKool. Thicker tints tend to have more obvious glare on line especially on re-tinted demister where there might be un-removal gum residue on the demister lines from old tints. I guess also the more slanted your rear screen, the worse the glare is depending on the thickness and angle of light from rear. Also mine is with VLT 21%, darker tint, not sure if that helps the better anti-glare. I can't remember if there is any glare on my previous VKool Elite.

Anyway....I have not even notice the line glare earlier meaning I'm actually used to it or take it as it is already after install. Now that I take notice aka re-seen it, I can't un-see the glare lines in my mind liao.....darn...

Based on your pic, the lines glare are flaring too much or is it just the pic coz I noticed if I take pics, the light glare flaring/expanding upwards seems to be worse than actual glare on real life. My light glare is on every line, just thin light on lines, no flaring and it does not affect the rear clear view as the light from cars behind are round and does not flare/boom like sun. Your pic light glare makes it difficult to have a clear rear view with all those light shining on the glare, even the car light are flaring like sun, at least on the pic.

If you always parked under basement, not driving in hot weather for a month, the tint might not be cured properly especially if they left too much water inside like mine earlier. Becoz of my thick tint and I always parked in basement, rainy seasons for last couple of months, it takes near to 2 months to properly cure for my demister to what it is now.

Update : I just realized even my Vios with factory tint has line glare when rear car shine on it, I guess all cars have it. Just that the rear windscreen angle might makes a difference in worsening the glare. I do notice if the tint has better anti-glare feature, it will dimmed the rear car light, so you can even see the car light bulb while others with no or lesser anti-glare feature will see bright flaring car light, can't see the light bulp of the rear car (too bright). Vios tint got a bit of flaring when looking at rear car lamp, just not as bad as yours but my Irispro DX tint minimized to no or minimal flaring (dim them working just auto rear mirror view dimmer). ALL of them of light reflection on each demister line just like your pic on the car with auto dimmer, just not flaring/blur on the demister line.

2) Hamel Platinum Series: RM700
Tint Type: Nano Ceramic Sputter Tint (Auto-darkness transformation via Naturechromic Tech)
Spec: 99% UVR, 95% IRR, 63% TSER, (no info on BLR), Have Glare Reduction, SmartTAG approval

Do note both products are likely not JPJ compliant. They might list 70% VLT but does not include windscreen. Once tinted, its likely around 65%. Only those with VLT80% likely pass Puspakom.

Most tints does not have Blue Light Rejection. That is the unique properties of Irispro tint. Btw Irispro tints is also smart tag friendly.

Metallized tint reflect heat, nano-ceramic absorb heat. That's the theory.

In my 2 cents, if staying in metallized tints non-moving car, it reflect some heat away while ceramic absorb them. By absorbing them and NOT moving, the heat does not dissipate and and transfer into the cabin slowly, thus metallized tints works better in that aspect. In moving vehicle, the ceramic tint absorbed heat will be dissipated by moving air, winds, etc much faster thus will cool down faster than metallized tint in general. Although in this theory, I always wonders how wind is gonna dissipate the absorbed heat by ceramic tint when the tint is inside the windows, not outside, go figure. If unable to figure, where do you think the absorbed heat go...I think I better go with metallized tint with this theory, easier to explain...hahaha

All said, it depends on the brands, the material used, quality. I have used Irispro DX series but Elite is of a lower range thus can't say how good it is. The DX series worked great. Both 10 years warranty. I personally prefer high quality metallized tints as I think it worked better generally in reflecting heat when direct sunlight shines on the skin although TSER might showed lower. But that is me, many other good brands uses nano-ceramic. Don't know much about Hamel tho, so can't comment.

do you know what is the difference between DX60 and D60?

I prefer light tint, so I'm looking at Elite 70 and Diamond 60 now

not sure which is better for heat prevention/reduction when driving under hot sun

Any recommendation from you? My car is mostly parked under roof ...

p/s: Any1 heard of / used Blaupunkt Tint (Germany brand) before? Any review?
*
I have not use Irispro Elite 70, so don't how well it worked.

I have used both both DX60 and D60. Irispro Elite 70 should be brighter than D60 with higher listed VLT70% vs D60%. D60 after installed on my windscreen has a reading of 56%. VLT might seems low when compared to VKool Elite that has a reading of 64% which is pretty bright. D60 is slighter darker but if not put side by side comparison, it still looks like clear tint with bright sunlight coming in. Only when compared with VKool Elite (on my other car), then you will notice VKool Elite is much brighter but D60 brightness is comfortable to my eye, definitely not dark tint.

D60 is using nano-titanium while DX60 is of using silver as based metal. Silver has better heat reflection but have weakness of possible metal oxidization just like VKool Elite. Titanium although weaker in heat reflection does not oxidize or rust when expose to air. With 10 years warranty, I would go for DX60 in terms of heat reflection.

DX60 is 2% lower VLT at 58% vs D60 60%. When installed, DX60 seems less brighter and have a slight hazy greenish light penetrating the cabin, it has brown hue outside and a stronger mirror reflection vs D60 that has a slight golden hue outside looks brighter in any case. Inside D60 light penetration does not seems to have much hue (maybe becoz I only use it on windscreen. D60 light penetration does looks significantly brighter than DX60 although on paper only 2% difference.

DX60 is slightly more expensive than D60 being their supposedly hidden higher range. In terms of heat rejection, on paper, only slight difference but on skin, can feel obvious lesser heat on DX60 than D60.

I myself installed D60 FWS (becoz I change windscreen and pretint D60 before they inform me got new DX60 with silver-based sputter nearer to VKool performance). DX60 on front side and DX30 on rear. On another car, existing VKool Elite on FWS and DX60 on front side with DX30 on rear. Only few months but love the DX60 and DX30 heat reduction. So can't comment on full D60 or DX60 experience as DX30 reduced VLT (looks dark from outside but inside looks so clear with comfortable brown lighting) worked especially great in heat resistance right on skin and while driving.

Only thing looks weird is DX60 and DX60 external colour hue seems a bit odd when put together. Most same series 2 tone tints (front light, rear dark) has similar hue, only 1 brighter and 1 much darker same colour hue.

Although both are from DX series, DX60 external gives a brown mirror hue with slight hazy green lighting inside while DX30 gives dark greenish brown mirror hue on outside with light brown lighting inside. Form outside, it looks like 2 different series with different hue coloring. That is the only weakness I see so far. Both tints strong mirror reflection (under direct sunlight) on outside looks really cool and sporty except for the odd 2 different colour hue. In terms of performance, very comfortable to the eyes inside, rear 21% VLT has clear light brown sunlight view and can see outside clearly at night, probably brown due to their unique HEV blue light filtering. Anti-glare feature the rear tint works like a rear mirror dimmer on cars front lamp shining into the rear view mirror, haha, no need auto rear view mirror dimmer.

Bro, thanks you for you sharing.

Well if i dont look at the rear mirror, it doesn't affect my driving , only if i look at it then all the glare effect come up

Yeah i agree that there will be minimal glare after tint because of the reflective tint material . but that will be minimal like what your cars looked like right now. my other car had similar issue but not glare like this

seriously if i drive at night and with 3 / 4 lanes my rear screen will be like music note , you know just like below.....darn

user posted image

the tint shop do mention my rear view a bit whitish , i had asked him if this will cause the glare but he didn't answer me on this part

well i will contact the 3M shop again see what solution they are suggesting

3M crystalline, really crystalline my back screen....sigh...
*
Ya, I noticed all my cars have light on each demister line. The anti-glare affect of a good tint (mine as well) makes it not flaring or what one of the malay installer say, cahaya pecah. Ours have light on each line but it does not flare or pecah like yours. Some extra bright car lamp did have some, but generally the light on lines exist but not pecah or flaring. So when I look behind, it looks like auto-dim rear view mirror even when my cars don't have that feature.

how is the DX60 & D60 looking from inside? is it light tint?

any difficulty when driving at night / during heavy rain?
*
I always drive at night and they look like clear tint, very clear. Only when put side by side comparison with for eg, VKool 70 with higher VLT, then you can see vkool 70 is brighter.

Otherwise D60 is clear tint to me. DX60 is slightly more greenish and dimmer but not too far apart. Still clear. Heck even the much darker DX30 with 21%/20% VLT are surprisingly clear at night, just brownish in colour. Got no problem reversing both my cars with DX60 rear screen into my house at night. But that is for Irispro Diamond/DX series tint.

Even on daylight, DX30 is surprisingly bright with dimmer brownish light. So if you install D60 all around, it would look and feel like clear tint although they won't pass Puspakom for FWS. Well DX60 is noticeable dimmer and greenish in lighting, still clear (I installed it as FWS on one of my car, but that car using older VKool 70 on other windows) but would feel the dimmer light quality inside.

Hi bro,

May i know what is your installed VLT all round?

Lately mine done =  VLT
Main screen = 70%
Front sides = 50%
Rear all = 5%

( as recommended by the shop ), it is perfect during day time, night time feel a bit dark at the back. I should have insist my original thinking 30% for the rear, kena phyco by the shop said 5% look nicer and better under sunlight.
*
Ya, 5% is too dark for night. Actually on daytime, I feel it is too dark too. Might look supercool but in my opinion, VLT30% also looks pretty cool already on daytime especially if the tint has mirror affect on the outside. In my case, official VLT30% but real reading of 21% is perfect for both day and night. At daytime, dimmer lighting but bright enuf to to view everything and at night, clear to even reverse without thinking it is dark. Each tint brand has their VLT and anti-glare affect tho. However that is Irispro DX30 tint for rear. Other brands might have different lighting affect. Irispro has blue light resistance tho, thus is brownish in lighting especially for the lower VLT tints.

If your's is Irispro, do note that is a difference in D30 and DX30 quality and lighting affect. Eg, D60 and DX60 already stated difference above. However never try D30.

DX series has a obviously better heat resistance than D series, not on paper but on real life feel. You can seriously consider it if the price is not too much difference.

What is your choice for the following car tints (front windscreen), and why?
a) Llumar Pinnacle PIPL50
b) 3M Crystalline 50
c) Huper Optik C50

Prefer high rejection and long lasting even when the car is parked for a long while.. if can, not much impact on phone or smart tag signal...
*
I think you can forget about 3M Crystalline if you want to use smart tag. This is one of the few range where smart tag signal cannot go thru.
Never use the other brand mentioned. So cannot comment.

What you mean long lasting even when car is parked for a long while. If you mean heat rejection if car parked a long while I think there will be no difference if parked under the sun for a long while. If parked for a couple of hours, yes, there is a difference, heat rejection means the interior car will heat up slower than no tint but once parked long enuf, the car will still be as hot as no tint.

The difference is a good tint minimize UV ray damage to dashboard and leather, slow down heat penetration, reduce direct sunlight heat on skin, anti-glare especially at night, anti-reflection on interior windscreen, etc.

if can't pass smart tag, then a bit wasted. RFID also can't apply on windscreen in that case?

aren't those ceramic tint keep heat at the tint causing front driver/passengers easier to feel hot than those metalised tint??
*
In general, really depends on what range and quality of ceramic tint you get. In general, I would say a high quality nano ceramic tint is no lesser than metallic sputter tint, both have its pro and cons. I myself are biased towards a good metallic sputter tint but that is just me. For clear tint VKool Elite are reliably long last (maintaining its performance over the years) but have been priced out of reach of middle class ppl. In theory, metallic tints reflect heat, I would say better than ceramic tints that absorbed them and need to move the car for wind to disperse the heat, but that is theory only. In real life, also depends on the quality of tints installed. For metallic tint, never go for cheap ones, coz the quality of metal used and the sputter process matters a lot. For cheaper range, I would go for ceramic tho..

If you are in Klang Valley, Penang or Johor, you can look at Irispro metallic based sputter tint (Diamond, Diamond X). I search for long while for a good metallic sputter tint to replaced my VKool tint. Pricing is pretty premium tho at around 2.3K to 2.9K for whole car coz as mentioned before, the quality of metal and sputter process matters a lot, that would likely hike up the price. I have 2 cars tinted with Irispro DX series replacing VKool Elite (too old liao, but too expensive to replace). After months of driving, I would say, no regret replacing them, their anti-glare at night are excellent, light penetration (VLT 50+ and 20+ rear) are great and clear even at night, heat resistance are excellent, smart tag working well (used it daily in Kesas Highway). I have post above on my so-called review on it.

The thing with metallic sputter tint is those RFID (guardhouse) won't work so well. Smart tag worked very well. Metallic sputter tint cannot be used with RFID, so placed your RFID on your car front lamp. All my cars sticked TNGO RFID on lamps in the first place coz there are more chances of you replacing the windscreen than car lamp especially for Highway travellers with stone chips flying around. All my cars have not replace front lamps even after 12 to 18 years but all replaced their windscreen at least once due to stone cracked.

On matter on heat of sunlight direct on skin, really on depends on the range of tint (quality) AND VLT. In theory, about 44+% of heat comes from VLT, so the lower the VLT, the lesser the heat. IRR contribute to about 50%. Those house brand tint with quoted high IRR and very cheap price, well take it with a grain of salt. Even branded quoted IRR, also cannot be sure liao but at least backed by brand name.

it feel like everyone will get diff price (for same car)

AX IRR65% UVR99%(5mil)
Retail 1600
Special price RM950

FX IRR75% UVR99%(5mil)
Retail 2100

Special price RM2550

Premium spec
RX IRR98% UVR99%(6mil)
Retail 4700
Special price RM3600

The special price depends on where you get them from. You buy new car from SA, got accs with free AX or FX tint, say I don't want accs and upgrade the free tint to QX or RX specs, sure get better special price. Some SA or 3rd party got special arrangement with tint shop, can get special discount if you buy thru them rather than just walk in. Thats why the difference. Not to mentioned inflation, cannot compare old price with latest.

The last time I tested my VKool Elite on my City windscreen, it read 64% VLT. So I think all VLT 70% tint will fail Puspakom anyway and I gave up trying to go for VLT70% tint when I re-tint.

I guess only 80% VLT tint can pass Puspakom but 80% heat resistant is only slightly better than no tint. The only advantage of it is UV filtering and additional IRR filtering to protect your dashboard and leathers.

So I go for VLT60% tint, still very clear tint but noticeble dimmer than 70% (not dark, just dimmer when put side by side comparison) but bright enuf to look like clear tint. The heat resistance is noticeably better too. VLT does contribute to 44% of heat resistance. Coupled with real high IRR, worked great. (When I say real IRR, means over 90% IRR that worked as it should, not some of those cheap house tint listed sky high IRR high and never seems to work as it listed).

So clear tint at 70%, I think nothing beats VKool Elite at durability and real life heat resistant. It's just that no other tint can beat its high price too...hahaha. So I go for the next best metallic sputter I can find, so far I'm good with Irispro D60 and DX60. Premium price tho but nowhere near VKool pricing.

What’s the best tinted out there and at the same time can use smart tag?

I wanted to install 3M and v kool highest spec but they are not smart tag friendly

Any other option .. ? Ray tech I saw ppl comment it will peel off after few years
*
VKool Elite for front windscreen smart tag friendly lar. 3M Crystalline is really not smart tag friendly.

IMO, for clear tint with the best heat resistance and durability, VKool Elite is the one but then the price is also the one...that is super high nowadays. Good if you can afford it.

Most other brands all have their proponents and detractors, some say good, some say not good, really depends on budget, expectation, etc. Some prefer metallic sputter tints for heat reflection, some prefer ceramics, etc.

Raytech also premium pricing and in generally consider a good tint, peeling off, I think that one likely poorly install or maybe the lower range. Normally these branded tints are quite lasting and don't peel off unless aging or damage or poor installation.

You can try Irispro metallic sputter tint (the premium range, DX60, D60, etc). I replaced my VKool Elite with it. Still premium pricing for top range but consider mid-range pricing liao when compare with VKool. Excellent performance so far with 10 years warranty but durability, not test...newly installed. Some vouched for Totalgard, much cheaper but those have their detractors, as said, depends on your budget and expectation.

Many brands, there is really no best thing after VKool Elite. I would recommend Irispro DX due to its silver metallic sputter tint. It is however available only in VLT 58%. I replaced my Persona and Civic windscreen with this. Still looks clear but obviously slightly dimmer than VKool VLT 70 tint. Do note that VKool Elite will fail Puspakom anyway, mine measured 64% reading before change to Irispro DX60 at 54%. Looks like clear tint with more greenish hue, wont get stop in roadblock BUT puspakom will fail. Smart tag friendly. Only those 80% VLT will likely pass Puspakom for Windscreen.

3M can supposedly match VK Elite but smart tag not friendly is a big turn off for me that uses highway.

May I ask if there is an Irispro catalogue for DX series. On the Irispro website, the DX series is not mentioned. Only the following series are available for Irispro:-

Diamond (Diamond 60 and 30)
Elite (Elite 70, 50, 35, 15, 05)
UV Pro 90 (UVPro 5590, 3590, 1590, 0590)
Titanium (HR5090, HR3595, HR1595)
Color Stable (CS8080, CS7090, CS5590, CS3090, CS1590, CS0590)

Nope. I don't know why they still have not include that in the website. There is no paper catalogue as well.

It is supposed to be their newest and most premium tint. I only got to know about it when I pre-installed my windscreen with D60 and supposed to tint my whole car with Diamond 60 and 30 when I go to their center to install the windscreen (they help pre-installed tint and liaise with Dr. Windscreen to install the windscreen at their center). By then my windscreen for the old Civic already installed D60 then only the manager told me about the existent of their newest slightly more expensive DX series. Then I switched the rest of my car to DX series instead of D series.

Unlike D60 that uses titanium metallic sputter as their based metal, DX60 uses the better heat reflector silver metal as based metal. Cons is they are more susceptible to oxidization than titanium metal does not have issue with. But with 10 years warranty, if really kena by 7 years, either it oxidize or it does not ever. VKool uses silver as their main based metal as well. You can call up Puchong center for the details or pm me for the the manager mobile number directly, friendly and very responsive. Its VLT is 2% lower than D series on paper aka 58% for DX60.

Since I have installed 2 cars windscreen with D60 and DX60, I have so-called comparison by heat on back of my hand...feeling only, DX60 has an obvious lesser heat feel vs D60 even if on paper they are practically 2% difference only. DX60 slightly more greenish hue and slightly more dimmer than D60 is quite obvious. Mind you, DX60 still looks like clear tint and very sharp even at night. Love it tho D60 is not bad either, even brighter. VKool Elite by comparison is definitely brighter than both when place side by side (my persona has DX60 windscreen replacement and the rest remained VKool Elite). The DX60 windscreen is still very clear tho and I actually prefer the slightly dimmer lighting from sunlight via DX60 over the overly bright VKool Elite now. More comfortable on eyes during direct sunlight (maybe the blue light filtering helps?)
