1. Preferred Brand : Anything
2. Budget : RM 2000 Max
3. Usage : Gaming + surfing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14 or 15

My priority is having a laptop with GPU GT 750M and above
However i realize my prize is not practical,
a. what is the lowest price i should have if i wanna own a 750M laptop?

b. Does GT 750M and 740M have big difference?

3. Whats the best laptop with gaming GPU at budget 2k?

4. Do you come across any used laptop for sale with good feature and <2k?

5. I saw some lenovo y510p and y410p, they have complain abt the battery
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2796033/+2020
Do you recommend that laptop? (coz i am targeting these 2 with 2nd hand)

hi, y410p is not bad, at least good design, sufficient good spec below rm3k..for the graphic card, you need to mention what games you r playing. they r totally different, one is gddr3 and another gddr5 ..

QUOTE(MerryChristmas @ Jan 4 2014, 11:55 PM)
Hi guys, not really know much about computers
I wish to buy a new laptop for my degree architecture study and I hope it can last for at least 3 years?

Preferred Brand : Dell, Asus, Lenovo

Budget: around RM 3k

Usage: for design software such as CAD, photoshop. I don't want it to lag in the midway of my project. Does not overheat too fast. Good battery life is a bonus

Preferred laptop/screen size: > 15''

Preferred specification:
Windows 7 / 8  64bits
Intel i5 or i7
8GB RAM
>500 GB hard drive
good graphic card (not much knowledge of video card)

I know it's hard to find a laptop of such specification with my budget.
You can just tell me the models that suit me even if over budget =)
Thanks for helping!

Lenovo
Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
With those CPU and GT740M/GT750M GPU, it should not lag in project. You will still feel lag due to HDD (HDD is the biggest bottleneck of performance), when you have more budget, get SSD to replace the HDD.
Use external cooling, cooling pad, table fan .... make sure laptop dissipate heat. Periodic maintenance to ensure air inlet / outlet is clear of dust, clean the fan / re-apply thermal paste periodically (once a year).
When the discrete GPU don't kick in (just surfing, ... ) these laptop have ok battery runtime (3 - 4 hours), if GPU kick in you are lucky to get 30 min smile.gif
Anyway, the Inspiron 15 7000 and 15R have the best battery runtime among the models listed (5-6 hours surfing).
If a model standard spec is only 4GB RAM, you can increase after-market to 8GB RAM (4GB stick ~ RM100).

no brand is perfect bro. no matter how much money you pay for it, one day it will still down. thats why its important to maintain your laptop and have a good warranty service.
