My Barclay Young Person Account is going to expire next March 2009. Albeit that it is still about 8 months away, I'm deciding to change to a bank account which gives a better interest rate when I come back. Any free advice? I don't have much of an experience in choosing a bank account.

Yes... I saw the word 'reserve' on the other debit card. What does it mean?

If you are just looking for a savings account with no offline withdrawal facility, try Egg.com. I am quite pleased with their interest rate on savings account and friendly/speedy customer service.

If I'm not mistaken, I have savings account only. And, this morning I received another letter from Natwest. There is a book like 'cheque book' and the title of each page is 'bank giro credit'. What is it for?

Added on June 21, 2008, 5:00 pmBy the way, is the 'customer number' mentioned in the Natwest referred to the 'account number'? smile.gif

Interesting. I never come to hear of such bank called Egg. I'll look into it. Are their branches abundant in London?

the book is for use of banking in money. quite useless though, cause you can always fill in the form in the bank unless you are asking someone else to banking the money for you.

Egg has been known to be evil for randomly cancelling credit cards that are not bringing in profits for them. A-V-O-I-D.

I see. Thx a lot. When youngkies mentioned that it is an internet bank, I have doubts about it.

I'll be heading over to Sheffield this September. Currently, I'm surveying the accommodation over there and I would greatly appreciate any information regarding places to live there.Cheapest rent I could find is at the Broad Lane Court, 70++ pounds. Thanks.

WillHung, I'm heading to Sheffield because my college (SEGi) is currently affiliated to Sheffield. Have posted before asking for opinions on Leicester as well. Honestly, I'm still not sure which is better, but deadline for accepting an offer from UCAS has ended so, I guess I'm pretty much stuck with Sheffield.

Azarimy, 70++ for the rent alone. And it's the cheapest I can find from the booklet Sheffield sent me. I'm heading there alone, doing Mechanical Engineering and sponsored by my parents. Won't say that I'm so tight on budget until have to makan rumput, but it is best for me to save as much as possible (estimated RM250k for 2 yeas of study there) to lighten the financial burden on my parents.

i think rent is quite cheap in sheffield, you can look on the internet for rooms for £50/week quite easily.

normally the booklets sent by the university are intended for local students who tend to have more money.

try gumtree.com

here's an example £42/week.
http://www.homesforstudents.co.uk/housedet...eld+University|

£48/week
http://www.accommodationforstudents.com/no...e.asp?id=419879
£35/week
http://sheffield.gumtree.com/sheffield/91/25325891.html

if you contact malaysians in sheffield (azarimy for example) they can point you in the right direction.
