Hi all. Have been lurking around for quite some time now and finally got myself registered today. Anyways, there are a few things that I hope you guys can help out with. I have two conditional offers from sheffield and leicester (mechanica engineering) and I'm currently torn between these two options. So these are my questions:
1. Anyone here studying in leicester? Need a general idea of how life as an international student there is like. can't seem to get any helpful info from the website.
2. For those doing MEng (Mechanical engineering) in sheffield, are we allowed to spend a year in the industry (working) before going back for our final year?
Hope you guys can help out. Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies. Just a few more questions
1. I'm planning to do the MEng sandwich course and use the earnings in that one year to finance my final year of study and i just want to know the feasability of it. How much to the students usually get paid when undergoing the industrial placement?
2.I'm gaining a direct second year entry to both leicester and sheffield. Are we allowed to switch between BEng and MEng or between MEng and MEng with industrial placement?
Thanks in advance.

It seems that doing an industrial year to support a year of study won't be such a good idea. If that is the case then I would most likely be taking up BEng. I know that upgrading from a BEng to an MEng is fairly common. However, has anyone actually downgraded from a MEng to BEng before, even though you are qualified to continue with MEng. I'm asking because I would most likely be applying for the MEng course first, and then downgrade to BEng if i still don't have the financial resources to continue with my MEng. Sheffield sent me an email stating that the decision can be made at the end of year 2. However I'm still a little worried as my offer letter will have MEng as the course offered to me.

I'll be heading over to Sheffield this September. Currently, I'm surveying the accommodation over there and I would greatly appreciate any information regarding places to live there.Cheapest rent I could find is at the Broad Lane Court, 70++ pounds. Thanks.

WillHung, I'm heading to Sheffield because my college (SEGi) is currently affiliated to Sheffield. Have posted before asking for opinions on Leicester as well. Honestly, I'm still not sure which is better, but deadline for accepting an offer from UCAS has ended so, I guess I'm pretty much stuck with Sheffield.
Azarimy, 70++ for the rent alone. And it's the cheapest I can find from the booklet Sheffield sent me. I'm heading there alone, doing Mechanical Engineering and sponsored by my parents. Won't say that I'm so tight on budget until have to makan rumput, but it is best for me to save as much as possible (estimated RM250k for 2 yeas of study there) to lighten the financial burden on my parents.
