QUOTE(nyra @ May 20 2014, 12:44 PM) I just don't want to die doing the same job. I was doing Computer Science during my college years. Your pay is competitive for GLC - because they also have to compete with other GLC. My first and 2nd year of working I do configuration. My boss loves me so much I guess, when he changed his job scope, he took me with him. I didn't change job to do what I like... I am trained to love what I do. Supply Chain was fun... you dealt with oversea counterpart most of the time. Work in different time zone depending which country you dealt with. Stay up all night because you having conference call (Webex) with US rep and etc. Too much fun is bad for family relationship, I don't want to give up on my job really, but my children want me to stop having meeting at home. When you age... you priorities changed and so do I. But one thing for sure is, I love SAP, it's a complex system and that what makes it interesting. I learn many new thing everyday. Though, I'm a bit too old to sit for the SAP cert, I do it because GLC requires professional cert in order for you to do project in SAP (but they didn't pay for the course, but I took MyProCert). I knew SAP knowledge is a lucrative business when I saw the consultant PO value in the system. It's about time for me to move on since I'm not getting any younger MNC will pay more but not as much after you've to put in more effort. GLC has better other fringe benefits to offset any other setbacks. The point of the career is to love what you do.. not necessarily must take compensation as number one priority. Also, there is no such thing as "too old" to sit for any exam or cert or learning anything new. Getting a "paper" cert also doesn't mean that you're expert. I have to throw out a lot of paper cert candidates after job interviews because know absolutely nothing except for memorization of that the facts and answers only. I prefer to hire experienced people. |

QUOTE(danmooncake @ May 20 2014, 11:52 PM) Your pay is competitive for GLC - because they also have to compete with other GLC. In real world, I agree with you. MNC prefers experience ppl. GLC is similar to government, the policy was adopted from the government. They prefers candidate with paper... but that doesn't mean candidate with paper are more intelligent than those without one.MNC will pay more but not as much after you've to put in more effort. GLC has better other fringe benefits to offset any other setbacks. The point of the career is to love what you do.. not necessarily must take compensation as number one priority. I have to throw out a lot of paper cert candidates after job interviews because know absolutely nothing except for memorization of that the facts and answers only. I prefer to hire experienced people. GLC pay is also similar with the government, the pay it lower but the benefit is better compared to MNC. As part of the transformation plan ETP, GLC has to obey to government rules, which is, to hire candidate with proper qualification (certs), that was the GLC hiring strategy. If I were to compare my SAP skills with those in MNC, I will be far behind. Frankly speaking, GLC does not do much on technical.. so you can't brush your talent there. We manage the project.. the rest of the work is done by 3rd parties(the consultant)... what we normally do is reviewing the projects till it's completed. Certs does not guarantee that you are good in any field, it act a ticket or permit for you to enter certain division. If people ask if I were a SAP SD expert... I wud say No Any blueprint or the Project design was done by consultants, this include the gap analysis, SRS, Functional Spec, test script, UAT, TR till go-live. What I do best, is chasing ppl around |

I'm in Malaysia working for a FI. I don't think my pay is high at all, in fact it's probably lower because I had a later start to my 'career' compared to some of my peers. But I have jumped a couple of times because I didn't felt I'd hit this salary if I remained in the same place and grew organically that soon. |

QUOTE(alpha team @ May 22 2014, 05:46 PM) I'm not that smart Rewards is a HR component, just happened to be a specialist in a finance field at the moment. I have received offers to move cross industry (FMCG, MLM and O&G) but I'm not as keen currently. |

QUOTE(alpha team @ May 22 2014, 05:55 PM) but RM6k with 2 years experience is really high. you are degree in actuary or wat? Psychology bro. Im degree in account, start work as auditor, now in advisory, salary 6k with almost 5 years experience. I did make 2 jumps within a year due to better pay and I do have working experience (albeit part time) during my study years Plus, Rewards is a specialised field, so the pay position is slightly higher compared to a generalist due to the limited pool, and if you factor in a position for a financial industry, its even fewer. Unless something drastic changes, I forsee no problem in me getting a position if I decide to jump tomorrow, even. |

QUOTE(nyra @ May 22 2014, 06:38 PM) Nope, though I am exploring a Masters, hopefully soon.I initially started in a different department before being offered a Rewards position. Subsequently I made a couple of jumps to where I am now. Having knowledge of the industry remunerations didn't hurt either But I have to admit I have been blessed to have been able to join and remain hired by the top tier FI, which pays much better for their specialist. It is also a big boost to my resume as I from the get go have been working regional projects which adds another element to it, as many FI's as exploring the overseas market now so they pay a premium for those with these experience. |
