Thank you for your reply.. Sigh I just need to wait patiently I suppose. Just that I realize that the long waiting period seems to be mostly for fresh graduates as pet is looking for a suitable placement for them. Oh well, waiting is part and parcel of the whole job process as painful as it is. Just have to hope for the best.  sad.gif

My brother who had 6 years experience underwent a 8 months process ... my other brother who was a scholar underwent a 7 months process .... so again, patience is key.

Nope I am actually their scholar so the recruitment process is a little "smoother" but I have already waited for 4 months after my Structured Interview for my placement.

Thanks for the reply guys. But I have one more question .. Will PETRONAS inform you if you did not succeed or are you left to assume that since there is no call you have not succeeded.

Hi bro Azraeil,

Need your guidance and help. I'm from electrical engineering. but I'm really interested in seismic and geo-exploration. Is there any chance for me since I lack the knowledge and skills compared to geologist? What skills do I need to enhance? I'm thinking of image processing? and does petronas has a geo/seismic department?

It's going to be very difficult because usually you will need some sort of degree in Geophysics/Physics or Geology to be able to do Seismic processing etc. Unless you can show you are capable of understanding the concept in seismic signal processing, the chances are very low.

Petronas would have an Seismic Acquisition (my borther is in there) but they don't usually have a seismic processing department. I know that Petronas Research has a processing unit/department though.

Hi azreil,

what does Seismic Acquisition in Petronas do? do they also in charge in data acquisition along with the services company? what's the prospect?

The unit are mostly manned by young fresh grads (like my brother) and old seniors. They will be the units who will plan for the seismic acquisition and then probably setup the scope of work and tender exrcise for the service providers. The fresh grads will usually go through the sismic acquisition project to learn the ropes from the contractors and after a while to supervise their work.

I have already told my brother to stay there at maximum 2 years, and after that to go for the Seismic Interpretation because that is where the demand is especially for exploration and development work.

dont attack me with high level question sad.gif I saw a project on DAQ and that hooked me up. basically i observe from electrical engineering point of view. The project used a daq kit and several microprocessor to acquire data from the ground (as a substitute to a real OnG seismic's data) and output its characteristic; humidity, liquid's volume, etc.

so I want to explore more but given the limited chance, I'm still clueless about this industry. and the explanation on internet alone is quite hard to understand.
