I am having an issue with Q990B soundbar linked with Sony A80J TV. Sometimes when I on the TV, the soundbar is on but no sound. I have to switch the sound output from Speaker to TV then back to Speaker. Only then the sound will be back.

Is this a known compatibility issue and if some of you folks who have Q990B soundbar suffers from similar issue? I checked with Sony they ask me check with Samsung and vice versa....

Well yeah many ppl with sony tv have problems with this soundbar - try turning soundbar on first then only tv. And also try toggling the sound option tv to soundbar (off and on again).



And anyone can share how long after approving TNG reward you will get the voucher code? will they send it to you via post of email?

Also this Atmos thing when playing with netflix movies with dolby atmos, I don't hear the effect at all. Even though the speaker lcd display atmos, but I don't find anything special. Only the rear speaker has surround which other 5.1 movies have the same effect. Is it a Sony thing?

I think this is an issue with Sony or Google TV. I'm using Edifier B700 and it does that too sometimes. I think better to pause playback and press return to main menu of the app before pressing home. Sometimes I just play a video on YouTube and change to another video until I get sound. When everything else doesn't work, I would restart the TV. It only happen when TV is being put on standby for some time. I'm using X90J.

Really depending your source and your tv passthru capability . Just like I'm using fire stick tv 4k for my movies and download - dolby atmos not so great but when i use tv USB to passthru audio then dolby atmos becomes great and clear . You should test your system with the dolby atmos test file - it will run thru each of the soundbar channels. if its accurate then it should be fine. Placement of rear speakers also very important - last time i just place rear speaker on chair level below ear level the effect was horrible and now when i finally got my stand - Just wow so much difference.

Learn to tweak your system then you will be satisfied .

How far did you put ur rear speakers away from your seats? Is it okay with put somewhere like 2m behind the seat? (coz no socket nearby the chair)

I am changing my hdmi cable to 2.1 tomorrow to see if got improvement. I only test with netflix movie, after I change the hdmi cable (previously I think 2.0) I will test with youtube content. My rear speaker no issue, it is the so call upward blasting. I don't find anything special. Maybe it could be my ceiling is a bit higher than normal ceiling.

Lately I don't know what settings I change, if the TV outputs those screeching garbage sound (noise?), the speaker plays it very clear and quite irritating. Last time some settings used to filter out such noises. This 990B bass also not strong. Actually to be fair it is the algorithm... the system somehow detects if bass is needed to be emphasized. If I test the youtube bass songs, the bass is punchy. Reddit says the same thing too.

As for the socket you need to DIY or buy in shopee look for 3 or 5 meter ones.

Well you can try - I'm using the stock cable that came with the soundbar because this q990 is not equipped with HDMI 2.1 port. As for bass, you can adjust using the smartthings apps.

Zzzzzz you are right. This 990B hdmi port is not 2.1 even though eARC.... well wasted money buying the hdmi 2.1 cable, not cheap....

How did you manage to passthrough atmos through USB?

You mean the longer cable for rear speakers? Do you have any links to buy that on Lazada / Shopee?

U got Edifier B700? How was it? I am choosing between this with Samsung Q800B.

Yeah but nowadays HDMI cable normal good brand proven speed of 2.1 40gbps is around rm30 for 1-1.5 meter. ITs ok you can still use it or keep for spare incase .

If you wanna buy soundbar at least go with something that has rear speakers , if it doesn't then not worth it. Try Q930b.

I bought it from Taobao but it is known as B70 there. I cant say for the experience though since I'm seated quite far from it (roughly 16ft or more away from the TV). I just love how it filled the living room, compared to my Edifier S730 which is more powerful but a bit lacking when it comes to overall feel.

Samsung is clearly the better sound and different market segment. However, need to be aware or careful with Samsung as they have QC issues and firmware support is only for current products. For example 2022 model Q990B and 2023 model Q990C are similar except a different colour and some tweaks to the software features.

Of course Samsung is a lot less money against comparable Sony or LG soundbars.

Also unless you spend a lot more money expectations for good ATMOS with most soundbars are limited. Size of up facing drivers matters to have that "sound" bouncing off walls.
