One question though; Any of you (Q80R users) find it difficult to "link" your soundbar to TV???

Btw i am using a Panasonic GX740, i had to go thru few steps every time switching on the system:
- HDMI cable to TV via HDMI 2 (ARC); HDMI cable to soundbar via HDMI Out (TV-ARC)
- Switch on TV
- Switch on soundbar
- Select source as "HDMI 2" until "TV SPEAKER" message appears
- Select source as "D IN" unit "TV ARC" message appears

...Feels kinda tedious with so many steps, was wondering if i am doing anything wrong
*
if you use the ARC port, the soundbar should on together with your TV.. there's no need to on the soundbar..
you might want to set the audio setting on the TV to point to the HDMI ARC as default..

Sold my 5+ years old Sony BDV-N9200 5.1 set (it is still being sold by Sony) and got the Sony HT-X8500 set.

Realistically, the 5.1 set is superior but I wanted to declutter my living room and speakers collect dust easily, so switched to a clean look.

As others have posted, for movies it is decent.  But music is horrible lol.

p/s Using my Nvidia Shield 2017 with VLC app to send Dolby Atmos signal to the Soundbar works well
*
Sad cry.gif else can exchange mine 8500 with your Sony BDV-N9200 5.1 set. cause mine Pioneer Htz-828bd just RIP.

Music really horrible, compare the clarity even my sony tv speaker s-pro sound is better.

I found out my ARC weird weird after some time, somehow it just doesn't connect to the TV, doesn't function as it should, occasionally need to total power off or reconnect back together

quite a hassle

I don't think you want a 6 yr old model. There are many other options around.

Also the Video passthru from this latest soundbar is visibly better than the BDV model. PQ is much better

Yes I have the same issue too with music, somehow seems a little muffled.
For now I either use the music preset or just normal sound with / without vertical surround, depending on the type of music.

Lately I'm seeing Sony promoting more about the HT-X8500 - eg seeing it with some PS4 demo at PC stores, and review units sent to local tech reviewers..

Hi Bro, mind to share which mode/settings you used most of the time? I just bought it yesterday, like you guys said music really cannot but still can tahan since most of the time not use for music. What trouble me the most is the dialogue not clear and i have to turn quite loud in order to listen it clearly, but it turns out too loud for other sounds like bgm. Thanks in advance.

Bass - Normal setting

Volume between 35 and 40

If TV shows or News, I use the Standard setting (don't like the Voice setting)

For movies, I use the Auto setting

Music - no setting will help lol

Room size and seating location also important. If you have a big room, then any setting might not help.

What I like about this soundbar besides it's price, is it can play Dolby Atmos files and it comes with EARC. Even the expensive
Samsung Atmos soundbars do not have the EARC update yet. This feature is useful once you upgrade to a TV that supports
HDMI 2.1 and EARC. Most TVs coming out in 2020 will have this feature

Yes. One of the reasons I bought this soundbar is for the eArc to connect eArc on my x8500g. But seems like it turns out most TV manufacturer still not equip hdmi2.1 in their tv line up this year except Samsung and LG.

It turns out a bit weird to watch drama with News mode, Standard mode was ok for me. For volume, 35-40 was too loud for me, but it depends on the source too. If watching Netflix I have to turn loud a bit, but youtube or other sources have to lower. I guess I need some time to adjust the best setting for my living room.

Hi all, planning to get a 5.1 channel soundbar to watch blu-ray & dvd movies

I'm decided to get the Sony HT-S500RF, comes with Dolby Digital & dts soundtrack

I'm currently using Sony X7000G 4k tv, is it true that the tv connect to the soundbar with HDMI (arc) will not output those blu-ray films with dts-hd or LPCM in 5.1ch soundtrack?

Thanks.

Yeah. I'm looking at yas209 as well.
Feels like bang for buck. I'll do more research.

Good tread ... my tv speaker just kaputed on me ... was thinking of getting a sound bar instead of replacing the tv speaker.
