Not only are soundbars mediocre, the people selling them are even more stupid.

Walked pass a Klipsch roadshow today, they were demo'ing the RSB-14 soundbar. Decided to stop and take a listen to hear if Klipsch has done anything proper with their take on soundbars. The promoter came up and instantly said; "this soundbar uses optical connection!" as a marketing term.

Like... just, wtf?

Using optical connection is supposed to be groundbreaking or something? Optical has been in use since the late 90s....

Just to entertain the promoter;

Me - "so can play lossless audio?".
Promoter - "can play dolby digital and DTS"
Me - "oh, so lossy audio then..."
Promoter - "yes, but it's dolby digital and DTS!"
Me - *laughs and walk away while SMH*

Sigh. The world of mainstream audio these days. mega_shok.gif

Yes, yes. Promoters these days aren't actually the experts and they're probably some part-timer who just finished their SPM and is trying to earn some pocket money. But imagine not taking 5 minutes to read up on simple foundation facts. sweat.gif

Hi all,

Looking for a soundbar to complement my TV.
Saw and tested a few models but I can't really decide which is better sad.gif

So far a couple of this models have my attention:
1. Yamaha YAS-108 (~RM799), option to add sub in future is a considerable point hmm.gif
2. Sony HT-S350 (~RM750 Aeon promo)

This 2 models are also a little over my budget, but wondering if I should splurge on them.

1. Sony HT-X8500 (~RM13xx Aeon promo)
2. Yamaha YAS-209 (~RM14xx on Lazada / Shopee)

I live in a condo, just need enough bass for streaming shows / movies.
Other recommendations are also welcomed!

Thanks in advance smile.gif

Not a sifu, but soundbar without subwoofer, will loose its thumpy bass. However, since u wanted to opt for non subwoofer with the range of up to RM2k, lots of soundbar u can choose from Sony to Samsung... depend on your need.

Basically depend on your need, u can go no wrong with Yamaha YAS-209 or the Sony HT-X8500, as my preference will go to Yamaha.

Haven't tried the LG SL5Y, but JBL 2.1 is not bad. Personally, imho, i will go for JBL at least the company focusing on manufacturing audio equipment.

Thanks bro! But the rear speakers need to be connected with wires right. Any options with bluetooth rear speakers?

what about Sony HT-RT3 or HT-S500RF (if you are willing to spend abit more)? but don't forget, you will still need to run the power cable for the surround speaker.

i am using a standard 2.1 sound system.
I have an issue with movie dialogue, for those multi channel MKV or Netflix, i could not hear the dialogue properly.

Thought of getting of 3.1 system or sound bar with 3.1 channel that is economical, so that dialogue would be clear and i do not need to crank up the volume which make dialogue audible but sound effect would blast .

I see that Sony Z9F, Philips TAPB603/98, Samsung Q70R, LG SL7Y, and i assume Yamaha soundbar should be able to emulate 3.1.
Any comment on these?
Thank you.

I ended up going for the Sony HT-X8500, found a deal on Shopee during 12.12 sales for RM12xx with cashback biggrin.gif
The sound is really out of my expectations for a 2.1 without a dedicated subwoofer ohmy.gif

Wow nice thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif
Yes I have the same issue too with music, somehow seems a little muffled.
For now I either use the music preset or just normal sound with / without vertical surround, depending on the type of music.

Lately I'm seeing Sony promoting more about the HT-X8500 - eg seeing it with some PS4 demo at PC stores, and review units sent to local tech reviewers..

Can sound bar work with desktop computers/laptop?
If yes, what would be the ideal soundbar within RM300 budget?

Sold my 5+ years old Sony BDV-N9200 5.1 set (it is still being sold by Sony) and got the Sony HT-X8500 set.

Realistically, the 5.1 set is superior but I wanted to declutter my living room and speakers collect dust easily, so switched to a clean look.

As others have posted, for movies it is decent. But music is horrible lol.

p/s Using my Nvidia Shield 2017 with VLC app to send Dolby Atmos signal to the Soundbar works well
