Sold my 5+ years old Sony BDV-N9200 5.1 set (it is still being sold by Sony) and got the Sony HT-X8500 set.

Realistically, the 5.1 set is superior but I wanted to declutter my living room and speakers collect dust easily, so switched to a clean look.

As others have posted, for movies it is decent. But music is horrible lol.

p/s Using my Nvidia Shield 2017 with VLC app to send Dolby Atmos signal to the Soundbar works well

Sad  cry.gif  else can exchange mine 8500 with your Sony BDV-N9200 5.1 set. cause mine Pioneer Htz-828bd just RIP.

Music really horrible, compare the clarity even my sony tv speaker s-pro sound is better.

I don't think you want a 6 yr old model. There are many other options around.

Also the Video passthru from this latest soundbar is visibly better than the BDV model. PQ is much better

Hi Bro, mind to share which mode/settings you used most of the time? I just bought it yesterday, like you guys said music really cannot but still can tahan since most of the time not use for music. What trouble me the most is the dialogue not clear and i have to turn quite loud in order to listen it clearly, but it turns out too loud for other sounds like bgm. Thanks in advance.

Bass - Normal setting

Volume between 35 and 40

If TV shows or News, I use the Standard setting (don't like the Voice setting)

For movies, I use the Auto setting

Music - no setting will help lol

Thanks for sharing, I will try it after works tonight biggrin.gif  When I tried it yesterday after unboxing, the first impression is worst than my Edifier C3 especially the music  doh.gif Hope the settings will help

Room size and seating location also important. If you have a big room, then any setting might not help.

What I like about this soundbar besides it's price, is it can play Dolby Atmos files and it comes with EARC. Even the expensive
Samsung Atmos soundbars do not have the EARC update yet. This feature is useful once you upgrade to a TV that supports
HDMI 2.1 and EARC. Most TVs coming out in 2020 will have this feature

TBC Electrical Chain Store having offer for Samsung HWQ80R. Stated as RM2,905 in their online page. I called their Sg Buloh branch and was quoted RM2,750 plus RM35 delivery, if I heard correctly. Offer until tomorrow.

thats a good price. i think it comes with 2 yrs warranty standard? if not, recommend top up for extra warranty if you are going to pay that much

I audition a few at Harvey Norman, Sen Heng and Bose. Bose sounds very nice but too pricey. Settle for Q80R and now waiting for the delivery. Q70R and Q80R big different in sound quality.

The main unit Q80R and Q90R is actually the same right? I read only difference is Q90R has rear speakers.

But this is only 2.1 right?

I prefer 3.1 cause has a center speaker which produce more dialog...

What about LG SN7Y or Philips TAPB603?

Go any try the x8500 before making the decision. Even though its 2.1, the floor space you are placing it in really makes a big impact if its a small living room and you can find the sweet spot

I downgraded fr a 5.1 system to this, no regrets

Today went to HN Sunway Velocity to try out some soundbars. Due to budget constrain, I tested the Samsung T650 & Q60T, then the LG SN6Y & SN8Y(these 2 are intro by the sales person). I would say the Samsung models that fits my budget, after comparing it with LG ones, really sounds quite lots of difference in term of bass & clarity level.

Didn't get to test out Sony as need to go back home early as tomorrow kids have to start school ady...
Well, this is my 1st soundbar, so totally a newbie so plenty of things need to learn from sifus here. Didn't get to try this X8500 yet at HN Sunway Velocity, but I'm kinda prefer deeper bass type of person. Care to share which 5.1 soundbar you switched over from to this X8500?
As of now, my source of videos & tv programs is from tvbox. The max sound format from the tvbox I think is only Dolby Digital. The reason I wanted Dolby Atmos is because my newly bought TV has this feature. And also maybe in the future might subscribe to other service provider such as Netflix if my family is interested with.

So beside HN, which shop in KV that have more brands/type of soundbar under one roof? So that I can test few models at one shot can save time from running around few shops and usually situation like this might end up messing up my decision making in the end...

If deeper bass then X8500 won't work.

I sold off my sony bdv-n9200w and got the x8500 mainly for Atmos and decluttering my small condo. Also I tend to change sound systems every 5 yrs (I take extended warranty), so I prefer not to spend too much.
Am using this soundbar with Sony X90H.

My Sony HT-X8500 produced buzzing noises coming from the built in Sub Woofer when playing loud sounds (like explosions).

So sent in to Harvey Norman to check. Told me that the motherboard kaput and needs to be replaced. Luckily I took the extended warranty. Happened after 2.5 years.

I hardly crank up the volume beyond mid level as I live in an apartment, the built in sub woofer is always at the lowest setting.

Anyone experienced similar issues with their Sony soundbars?

P/S This model is the basic Atmos model with the built in subwoofer. Perfect for my small living room

Hi, I just booked a Sony HT- Z9F display set  with some facial cover net damages for RM1.5K and its come with 5 years warranty. The booking is only valid until coming Monday.

Currently I still have the Yamaha RVX 657 system + whaferdale speakers and I thought it's much convenient to go with sound bar which I mainly watch astro and netflix.

My only concern is this sound bar is old and was launched 4 years ago. Should I go for it?

Mind sharing from where?
