Wonder the different in price between big brands and small brands are for the product quality or just for the name ( help them to sponsor those big star cyclists.)

QUOTE(wenloong78 @ Oct 12 2013, 10:58 PM) Yeah, been riding mtb for about 1 year. for RM5k.. you do have a choice... it is just whether you can accept those brands...I plan to assemble/customize this road bike. So already bought shimano 105 group set, pedal, campagnolo shamal wheel set and saddle. Left frame, drop bar and stem. So frame is the main concern now. 5k is for frame only but After some visits to several bike shops, like bike pro, pedal spot, KSH, specialized concept store, I found out that, 5k for frame set, is either I go for alloy like specialized Allez e5, or go for low end carbon, which kinda hard to find coz low end carbon frame usually being sold in complete bike. So as a first timer for road bike, should I go for high end alloy? Or low end carbon? Is there any good carbon frame that is less than 5k, that worth considering? Thanks for a fact, i know the Swiftcarbon Ultravox RS-1 is a tad over RM5k and the Ultravox Attack is around RM3.5k... practically an unknown brand and you might not trust it but bikeradar gave it's team issue a very good rating... i know because i was just helping a friend out with his bike and this was more or less the pricing for the frames alone.... the other choices would be titanium frames like van nicholas that comes in at around RM3k++ not inclusive of the fork i think....lynskey might be tight as i remember it's around RM6k... if KH is willing to sell the Look 586... it might go for slightly above RM5k as well... i saw it was still there as a complete bike some half a year back for around 7k if i am not wrong... the thing is not whether you should aim for a high end alloy or low to mid range carbon... but, are you brand conscious? if you are... then carbon is definitely out of the question... you need to look at the most unlikely places to explore some of the lesser known brands like what sunnyckh says, boardman or neilpryde at velocipede (most likely expensive, burasl costs 13k and alize costs 9k) not sure how low can the lower models go... the next one if you want to aim branded might be scott to see if their cr1 has anything that fits you budget... it's going to be tight and the budget you have might just barely or need some topping up to cover the frame only and you have to fork out more for finishing kit... miao's suggestion of the SL2 at bikepro is not exactly going to be any newer anyways and that is most likely what you can get if you want a branded one... pedalspot also still has a couple of super old frames like derosa king 3 and a couple of older model merida's... try negotiate a bit and see if they can let go of the king 3 at cost price (i think it retailed for 8k during it's heyday)... or some of those merida scultura that they have which are past year frames... they won't be selling those frames cos no one will be interested in them now... and if you don't mind old stuff... i'd say... go give it a try and see... so, you do have some question you need to clear with yourself first... branded or you don't mind...then comes the carbon or alloy question.... QUOTE(sunnyckh @ Oct 12 2013, 11:17 PM) Boardman air 9.8 (if u like aero n speed) or SLR 9.8 (if u keen to climb more)...slightly a bit over 5k...yea just slightly... yeah... have been seeing quite a lot of people riding boardman recently... i think the prices might be quite attractive to them...QUOTE(miaopurr @ Oct 12 2013, 11:30 PM) it's a diversion aimed at vin_ann.... we all know what he meant once vin_ann turns his back around...QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Oct 12 2013, 11:55 PM) Btw, nooooo....don't think so far, life is simple life is never simple... stop dreaming...QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Oct 12 2013, 11:56 PM) suggest something a bit more sensible lar... it's like someone asking to buy a myvi or saga and then you suddenly pop up and say buy a ferrari... we know u are weird lar... act weird appropriately dude... |

QUOTE(wenloong78 @ Oct 13 2013, 12:08 AM) chrisboardman from bike elementz? heard of this brand before but not sure if reputable or not. it's another of those brands either founded by some ex-pro or borrowed their name to sell the bike...whether the fella actually test and feedback on the bikes is pretty much and x-file...can u give some opinion about this brand? thanks at least... they are better than some china ones... the worry is that the dealer or distributor gets axed off sometime in the near future and then you might start running into trouble like getting a replacement rd hanger if you ever bend one.... ask those "bmc" QUOTE(arkana @ Oct 13 2013, 12:33 AM) i'd be riding my babe too if i had one...QUOTE(miaopurr @ Oct 13 2013, 12:48 AM) not really. u can get an s-works frameset with 4 digit price tag. or a top end giant frameset. scott addict, 4 digit price tag. 4 digit price tag is kinda wide... 1000 ~ 9999 is also considered 4 digit wor... can narrow it down a bit???QUOTE(Xirality @ Oct 13 2013, 02:14 AM) try www.trailridermad.com/ or usj cycle... i think they have fixies... QUOTE(wenloong78 @ Oct 13 2013, 10:02 AM) Wonder the different in price between big brands and small brands are for the product quality or just for the name ( help them to sponsor those big star cyclists.) undeniably... your money does go to the sponsorship money if they do sponsor anything at all... but then, if you think back... you are buying a certain something quite likely because of that bike is ridden by some successful rider who is sponsored partly by your money... so, it's a chicken and egg situation if you know what i mean...bigger bike firms might also spend more money into r&d like spez who works with mclaren to do finite element analysis on bikes like their mclaren venge or one off mclaren tarmac sl4's.... the hope here is that this stuff get trickled down to cheaper models some time in the future when they think of some new shit to sell you a bike... and a good example for that is cervelo with their R5CA projects which is practically a stupid frame that costs 10k usd on launch and is limited... and they are frank that potential buyers are just funding the shit so some poor bloke another couple of years down the road gets to enjoy the bike that he is riding at a fraction of the cost... like the new RCA launched recently... less than 1 year from announcement and they have trickled some stuff down to the 2014 revision of their R5 models although not completely everything... and what worst... to complicate things... we all know carbon production has gotten a bit cheaper than what it used to be... if your money ain't used to sponsor, market the bike, or make better advancements... that means the manufacturer is just getting fat on your money... is that a good thing??? or would one prefer to ignore it just because they can't see it.... |

Not much discussion on cycling jersey....Which are the better quality cycling jersey brand available in our market?
No idea what to look for in a cycling jersey besides it's design and colour, guess I have to trust the brand...but which are the ones that we should be eyeing? Looking for a long sleeve to block out the scorching sun and yet cool enough to wear. Thanks. |
