it depend on pcb type too. most chip can handle it, just don't know how long it will last.

i wonder.. why DDR can support 2.6v but DDR2 with 2.4v will ruin the same 4 layer pcb...

is it becoz of marketing gimmick.. or irrelevant review..

It doesn't ruin the PCB lar, it'll ruin the chipset itself.
Since DDR2 chipset is originally built to run at 1.8Volts only. smile.gif

While DDR1 chipset is built to run at 2.5Volts. smile.gif

Thats why RAM manufacturer provide extreme heatsink to cool their 2.4v rated parts.

mean regardless the pcb got 6 or 8 layers..
or even the cheapo 4 layers pcb..
if the chips capable to handle the high voltage.. it's shouldn't be a problem right?

just need to handle on cooling method..
the problem is how to monitor ram temp.. lol..

Not really. smile.gif
PCB also plays a great important role in overclocking.

I'll leave this to the hardware expert to answer it clearly. rclxms.gif

what shawty say is also right...
PCB also play an important role in OC....
if good PCB...it can take a higher vdimm....

aku tido pon tal bole....kang charge consultation fees kang

EDIT: Wrong topic

Corrected, just got up writing this. RAM PCB those of higher layers have better cooling properties as it makes greater use of the PCB's surface area to dissipate heat since you cram less on the circuitry per layer. Besides that, like sempronic said, it's able to withstand higher VDIMM as the circuitry would have higher tolerance as well as greater stabillity to maintain those VDIMM's. JEDEC spec PCB's are only designed to withstand extreme conditions based on humidity and environent temps at very low voltages (DDR2 AFAIK is at 1.2v for testing purposes)

Wow! That's nice!

What is the best OC at 2.2v? Just asking as I got to know that crucial will only support warranty up to 2.2v. Not planning to go higher than that.....

Just got my crucial ballistix (non-bling-bling) DDR2 800mhz. Can't wait to try it out AFTER I get my new rig!!! sad.gif

Edit: I'm new to DDR2 but can't the crucial run at 1T? Noticed that in the timing tables, it is all 2T.... hmm.gif

Can, but that depends on which chipset on the motherboard you're using.
From what i heard, for LGA775. Only nVidia 680i chipset can go 1T. smile.gif

Dunno about any other platform. laugh.gif

OIC. I'm aiming for the P35 (X38 taking too long to come out!). Maybe this platform can support 1T?

Presently, only the P5K3 Deluxe DDR3 1333/1066/800 and the P5K Deluxe 1066/800 motherboards benefit from 1T technology. The P5K, P5K-E, P5KSE, P5K-V and P5K-VM models will have their BIOS updated in the near future. biggrin.gif
