I'm not too worried about the application, I it won't cost me anything if they don't approve it anyway.

Just want to know which card is better.

Also for the Maybank, seems like all the perks are in the Amex card.. so what is the other card for?
*
if to compare based on petrol only:
1) uob one card 5%+2% smart$ (bhp only) - available every day
2) mbb2amex 5%+2% conversion from tp (all petrol stations) - available weekends only

I just saw this in iMoney imoney rhb

Not bad, got cashback on petrol up to 5% - of course the catch is first weekend of the month. Other days still get 2%. I'm not sure if got cashback AND points at the same time. Would be interesting to know...

And also can get points to convert to Enrich at 3.5 points to 1 mile.

Not bad not bad...

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Jun 5 2014, 08:31 PM)
just wondering, for purely insurance payment... if within 3 months doesnt exceed RM3k (e.g RM600/mth or RM1.8k/qtr), any suggestion what card can give better benefits?

so far that i can think of, only OCBC's Mastercard unlimited 1% cashback is the best universal card without AF or spending criteria.

other spending, e.g. petrol/groceries/mobile/etc already covered by most popular cards.
*
if i have a rm600/month or rm1.8k/quarter insurance, i would still go for aeon watami. bcs with the rm1.8k/quarter, i just need another rm1.2k/quarter to be qualified for the 3%. the extra rm1.2k/quarter can easily be attained with dining, car service, car insurance, clinic, pharmacy, furniture, etc.

thank you. Not keen withHLB wise. only 2 categories, and minimum 10 transactions within those categories. Not good for medium usage.

Please advice on OCBC titanuim card. They offer 1% CB on everything with no limit, plus no AF. any cons?
*
if you are satisfied with just 1% then you can go for ocbc titanium (good choice).

Hi guys, want some advice

1. Annual Income: 75-100k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Petrol, Cash Back/Rebate Only, Retail spending, Utilities. Most importantly is cash rebate. What is d best card for it?

4. Existing credit cards if any: None

5. Looking at CC from: Any bank is fine

6. Others: During my housing loan. loan officer offers me a card which i rejected. My loan np, only took 3 days to pass. I rejected cc that time coz i dont like CC cards. However now i think its a good thing to have if we use it right.
*
if you want a cc with less t&c, go for ocbc titanium or hlb essential. it's 1% cashback for everything, everyday, no minimum usage, and cashback unlimited.

if you think 1% is low, then go for aeon watami. it's 3% for everything (except petrol) and everyday with minimum usage per quarter = rm3k. note: if you use less than rm3k per quarter, it's 0% cashback.

if 3% is still low, go for mbb2cards. mbb2amex gives you 5%+5xtp for weekends spendings. 5xtp on weekdays.

if 5% still low for you, go for hlb wise. 10% everyday but only for 2 selected categories plus mobile category. note: any expenses other than these 3 categories = 0%. also, you need to hit minimum 10x of transaction above rm50 per month to qualify, otherwise = 0%.

thanks bro. u are really helpful! saw the mbb2cards.. quite nice. but got 2 cards. haha maybe can bring amex around and leave d mastercards.

however certain place dont accept amex, is that true?
*
it's true... but nowadays more and more merchants start to accept amex already. in the earlier time petrol stations also don't accept amex. but now most petrol stations accept amex. also, places like tesco, giant, aeon big, parkson, aeon, etc. all also accept amex. not a very big issue already. wink.gif

4. Existing credit cards if any: Maybank & Amex ocbc titanium (going to cancel)

5. Looking at CC from: Watami?

6. Others: Please be specific. Example: GST must be waive-able as the spending on this card will be small as to compliment Amex.

Thanks sifu.

although with watami card your gst can be covered in several ways, but you need to spend at least 3k per quarter to qualify for the 3% cash back.

Hi guys, planning to get one cc for its convenience. Need some recommendations and help from you guys biggrin.gif

1. Annual Income: RM36K to RM60k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: 0% Installment plans, online transactions (mainly USD) , Overseas Transactions, emergency usage, Cash Back/Rebate.

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil. But do have cimb e-master debit card (prepaid Reload type) and HSBC visa debit card. Noticed that HSBC tend to have better exchange rate when using for online transaction (usd)

5. Looking at CC from: HSBC (current salary bank), open for others.

6. Others: I calculated my 5 months average monthly spending and I think I can't really benefit from cash backs, about rm250 on Utilities (TNB, maxis Internet, postpaid), rm200 on petrol, rm100 on toll. The rest are just etc spending with no fixed patterns sad.gif.

Most important is to have 0% installment plan in case if I need some easy-payment on big purchases, and international card in case of emergency during trip.
*
you can benefit from cashback with mbb2cards. use the amex card for your utilities, petrol, and toll on weekends (sat & sun) for 5%+5xtp or weekdays for 5xtp. monthly cb cap at rm50 (more than enough for your fixed monthly spending pattern at the moment).

and yes, free life time af. and with 5xtp, you can easily achieve 12,500tp in a year to strike off the gst. to achieve 12,500tp in a year, your monthly expenses just need to be around rm208.33 which is very easy to achieve. and with your spending pattern, you surely have much more extra tp to redeem for cash vouchers too.

I see! That's interesting. Never knew my spending pattern can actually cap and benefit from cash back.
How about overseas usage for the mbb2cards in case of emergency?
Thanks a lot for your suggestions! smile.gif

Also I noticed that the cash back is from the Amex card, which some of my bills does not accept Amex (maxis fibre online payment, umobile website). I checked the website and seems that the cash back is for Amex only. hmm.gif
*
yes, the benefit is only on amex card only. for those merchants that don't accept amex, you have to use the other visa/mastercard with only 1xtp. otherwise, you can apply for another cc for that purpose but not so reasonable as you need to incur another gst which you don't fully utilise its benefit. so overall, i still think the amex card can cover the "loss" from the visa/mastercard if you plan properly. brows.gif
