Yes, very sure. but it is not so reliable. Install map apps , go figure. I can  add status and detect my location with Facebook.

i am using W4-820 no sim.
I've updated with latest BIOS 1.15, available in Acer website. Any idea what does it fix?

Actually, this tablet does not have GPS hardware built-in. Why the Sensors app could provide your location information is because Windows Geo Location API is able to resolve your tablet's public IP address.

More information can read here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wi...eolocation.aspx

Google, Apple also provide the same functions. You may use your laptop (which obviously does not have GPS device) and Chrome browser to determine your location on Google Maps.

Anyway, it is a good device and I am happy to use it daily. The con of Win 8 tablet is it will go into deep sleep when you want to listen to radio. Not all metro apps support playing while device enters deep sleep.

Some programs like Adobe Creative Suite, Office won't install on 'removable' drive.

Believe me, I've tried.

No I've installed adobe Acobat, Photoshop, Illustrator in the sdcard. You can only do it once u mount the sdcard as part of C drive. Once mounted, sdcard will not show in explorer as removable drive. You can google up on how to do that.

I've open & edit large raw files this way as i partition another 6GB of my 64GB microsd as virtual memory. The huge file takes awhile to open due to slow atom processor but at least it can be done.

The bottle neck is the SDcard IO, not the Atom.

Even if I could install my programs to SDcard, I still prefer my removable storage to store only my other files for easy backup. Putting swap to sdcard will kill it faster.

Probably using UHS-1 MicroSD like Sandisk Extreme will equal the eMMC speed?

I doubt that. Buying the fastest microSD card won't solve that. The card reader runs at USB2 speed only. We need USB3.0, which I think a must have in 2014 and beyond.

Updating the latest drivers to 1.15 seems ok, but I can't disable or enable rotate screen from the right charm.

is it? the gps give me exactly my location, and windows 8 3rd party sensor apps give me Decimal degrees latitude and longitude, and it changes when i move to different area of the same city with few KM distance apart, geo location can only give u the city, if that database info is accurate.

Yeah, I know that but the decimal points are just the location of building you are in.

The best way to know whether it has GPS device, just put it in car while Sensor apps is running. Then try travel a few km and see Sensor returns you the right location?

It does not work for me though.

Yeah, I agree with Dothan... it has location API to help determine location with support of WiFi or data.

Toshiba Encore boldly said it has GPS. I think Iconia W4 should work like the same... not.

i am testing acer iconia w4 820 today with nokia HERE Maps windows 8 apps, using this becoz it can /Download maps to your tablet and use them for free when abroad or whenever there is no available Wi-Fi or data connection/, travel few KM within same city, the maps show correct gps postion from start to finish and the same while returning. and i am not connected to any wifi or 3g connection while doing that.

I doubt i can kill my sdcard this way since none of the cards on my tablets have burned out yet. If it dies, its probably time to ditch the tablet for a faster newer model. My preference is all storage files goes to one drive for easy access across multiple devices including my Lumia. So the sdcard is has more than sufficient space for programs.

Let me rephrase it.

"It will kill your sdcard FASTER if you do swap memory to SDcard". In time, all flash drive will die because there's a limit of memory cell read/write.
