Simply say, digital sound is a wave sound which transfer in "bit". A bit different to analog which you listen n years before with your cassette.
16-bit is something like a CD sound quality. 24-bit is is something like a DVD sound quality.

But when you compare by digital with analog sound. Sometimes in digital wave sound, you cannot listen to some details in the music. Some of the sound listen like not nature, maybe the voice when you talking then after record into digital wave was change to another voice.

Analog sound is more details and more nature but a big problem is when you playing it such like a cassette. Sometimes fast and sometimes slow and also the big disadvantage is low fidelity.

If you obtain a Creative sound cards, you set their sound quality to 24-bit and 96KHz. You will feel that sound is better than a CD music. The sound is improved to more details during you listen a song. Higher bit generate more detailed voice. You will feel the sound is more nature than 16-bit.

But usually its not much different, you still can listen a high quality song at 16-bit. My own conclusion is, there have no different between 16-bit and 24-bit. I cannot listen out what are their difference with my sound card. Still 16-bit is a good standard for a digital wave sound.

I cannot explain too much because I not very expert about this.

the CD and all the mp3, WMA and lossless are encoded into 44khz and 16 bit format...high bit depth is for enhancing the dynamic range, theoretically upsampling to 24 bit from 16 bit won't help to make the 'more detailed voice' and 'more nature than 16-bit', because the extra 8 bit is use to represent the white noise which equal to nothing, and yourself also can't feel the different, no point you talk about it...

Good sound card because of good DAC, which can convert the digital form to analogue with more detail (bit perfect), not for listen to your so called '24 bit more natural sound'...

Anyway, where can I get the Trust one? Or are there any other 16-bit external soundcards? I'm really really low on funds... so I can't afford to get expensive stuff.

dude, don't misunderstood, most of the sound card the minimum standard is 96khz/24 bit now, no point to find those 16 bit external sound card, and i don't think you could get it...

well, if your main purpose of purchasing external sound card is for surround movie, get at least external Creative SB Live!24 bit, you can get it between RM160-200, or you can go to search at garage sales....

bare in mind that newest standard of 96khz/24bit card sounds better than old 44khz/16bit card is not due to the standard itself, but the better quality components used...

Oh.. Guess I'll try to dig out some funds from my parents to help me buy it XD thanks anyway.

just got myself a vs4121 today.. hm.. i would say it is good enough for that price range... got try edifier m3300.. hmm.. not quite like it.. but the downside for vs4121 is that the bass is not solid enough...and the satellites are kinda choppy.. due to the stand design

my 3rd altec lansing.. haha... though it is not as good as klipsch gmx.. but its cheaper! hehe

edit: okay.. i got ur point.. haha... just dig through the archive... nvm lar.. what bought is bought.. hehe.. maybe the m3300 there wasnt tuned properly.. so kinda dislike it.. but satisfied wit vs4121.. i agreed with what he says(cant remember his nick).. cause i got some tough time to get the perfect blend.. either is treble too sharp which a pain in the ear.. and bass... and the response wasnt that sharp.. (compare to my mylarone.. hahahahahhahaha , incomparable, 2 different things.. just be sarcastic)

anyways... the reason i'm here to ask whether Altec Lansing sell cables?
The 3.5 mm stereo cable (green color) from my speaker is all worn out, there's very little sound coming out from the speakers.
If there isn't, where can i get a new 1?

i've checked, the problem is only the 3.5 mm stereo cable. So i don't think it merits a visit to the HQ.

Oh. Then you might be able to find a deal at All IT Hypermarket. I think they do have those cables there. There's a shop in Lowyat and one in Ikano Power Centre (2nd floor). Good luck searching.

Any AL: MX5021 owner here ? i got question regarding this model..

Basically, i'm using this model for more than a year and i realize that i coundn't feel the bass (woofer) while my speaker working perfectly ( clear treble + bass).

Usually, i set my volume 1 bar (at night) and most often 2 bars (day time). This model consists of 5 bars (volume, treble and bass) and i tested it with high volume about 3bars n above, bass FULL bars and treble with 3 bars, only can feel the bass from the woofer. I'm using Creative Xtreme Gamers Fatality as well..

Isn't this woofer's power come at high end ? or my woofer got problem ?

You can try using equalizer to your needs.

Most songs don't have excessive bass. You need to use the equalizer to tune those body-shaking bass.

i place my controller bass and treble flat, I use EQ (winamp EQ + Eletri-Q Paragraphic EQ) to tune sound

This speaker bommy on movie but not music.
