skydriver: hm.... the bass feels like its seperated from the tweeter? ... maybe its d crossover .... cause it feels like dat on some songs 2 me ... i miss my creative FPS2000 hahahah

on muddy bass ... yeah ... i feel it 2... but d bass sounds like d speakers from d huge system i mentioned earlier ... so maybe its jus designed like dat ....
not seperated from the tweeter, just blurry...

with GMX, i can hear the "bass hit" clearly, even i can count it... 1st hit, 2nd hit, 3rd, 4th....
but MX5021 just produce the continuous "bass hit", non-stop between two hit.

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Jan 25 2008, 11:36 PM)
Blurry bass? Need Puncy upfront bass? Then i think other than klipsch GMX,  the bass from AL VS4121 should suit ur both taste...just guess only... hmm.gif

VS4121? rclxub.gif
the bass make me sick.

QUOTE(Faint @ Jan 26 2008, 10:51 AM)
I think they means the MX5021's bass not tight enough ?! But VS4121 totally out of this, its bass seems like the woofer box got one big hole  sweat.gif

tight? solid?
the bass is powerful, but sound flat...

hm... a friend who stays a few rooms away on my campus has a vs4124 and i personally felt the bass sounds better den my mx5021 infact i find the overall sound is better due 2 the small room size ... but my mx5021 at home ... now dats another different devil biggrin.gif

SkyDriver Yes i know d "HIT" of d bass more like a proper "thud" rather then a mild "thud(blur/aftereffect)thud(blur/aftereffect)thud" which makes is muddy ... but i felt it gets depth from there as well.

and as i said earlier 2 match up with the bass u wil need to lower down ur treble .. else it sill sound frekishly wierd with extra thin and sharp highs and the "muddy" bass ...

lowering the treble 2 match the "muddy bass" it will produce an effect which i found in many speakers which is many more times more expensive and larger 2.0 systems ... of course mx5021 is nothing compared but ... at least the feel is there... warm soothing ... "tame/mild/chil out sound" with sometimes 2 much emphasis on d mids on certain tracks ...@.@

try plug in a headphone on the headphone jack and den remove it it will sound very "thin" like common pc speakers then.

IMHO ... IMHO

personally, the subwoofer of MX5021 is totally suks when i compare it with klipsch gmx's subwoofer. (darn blurry bass from mx5021).

**i'm not comparing the power of the output, but the sound quality...

sound card : prodigy 7.1
front speaker : MX5021
rear speaker : GMX
setup (setting) : clone 4-way form out 1, 2

Yap, in the same hostel, vs4121 bass sound really can spread further distance compare with MX5021, but i don't feel that bass sound is better than MX5021..

personally i don't agree with lowering the treble furthermore because i feel that the treble "not so clear" or "not crisp enough" in default unless u are watching movie, but i do agree that the bass "thud(blur/aftereffect)thud(blur/aftereffect)thud" make the bass effect more depth and undirectional, with proper placement of the subwoofer and some EQ tweaking(i still stand on my point that EQ tweaking is unavoidable icon_rolleyes.gif ), u can't determine the bass direction precisely and the bass is just coming from all the direction, it is not "upfront", so it is not "puncy" for some people...

but for me the "muddy/blur/continuous" bass between two hit is somewhat a "connector" on it, the bass is continuous...so this is just the taste matter of different user, this is not because AL wrongly design this kind of "suck/muddy,blur" bass, i define it as "soft bass", many hardware review said it is revolution redesign of the woofer unit and totally different from previous model which well known as "bass boomer", so don't said MX5021 bass is suck just because compare to the puncy bass u like, is unfair, they are just two kind of totally different design...need puncy/upfront bass? just go for klipsch GMX or logitech Z-XX00 series or maybe...tight/solid/puncy car audio... sweat.gif

maybe the VS4121 is designed for blurry bass too whistling.gif

well, the mx5021 really sound better with 2/5 (volume setting for treble and bass)...

Yep Yep 2/5 for treble and 2/5 for bass nice biggrin.gif sometimes i go to the 3/5 at the point when the blur light just turned to the 3rd one ... exp for female vocalist

on eq tuning .... yeah its required depending on wat player u use... befor this i used eq for winamp and wmp and several others whihc i tried ... SQ sucked ...but ...now no need for eq tuning at all... after i used foobar2000 with SSRC resampler at ultra 48000 setting wif ASIO output and ... with a very very old (8 years old i think) sound blaster live 5.1 running on kxdriver .... running on creative driver it soounded REALLY BAD ..... the mp3 source is also important the 320kbps ones reallly sounded sweet tongue.gif

looking for Philips Aurilium but don think will be easy 2 find one for my future laptop use (anyone know where 2 get plz tell or recomend me a external sound card)

hm ... soft bass .... normally in 2.0 systems for music ... i do agree it does sound very similar biggrin.gif

guys,
can recommend AL speakers? I've Xtreme Music as soundcard, and current planning to upgrade my old ACS45.1..

My main purpose:
1. Music 80%
2. Movies 15%
3. Games 5%

I keep hearing MX5021 is good. Good for music?

I'm using ATP3. when i turn the music louder. got "brup brup" sound. I suspect it's the analog controller problem. Can it be fixed?

hardcore altec lansing supporter here.

ACS 45.1 <- my first altec. loved it but weak trebles
ATP3 <- second altec bass weak
VS4121 <-mid range weak but nice bass and trebles
MX5021 (soon to get) <-hopefully will be perfect bass+mids+treble

i'm saving up a few month's salary + angpow to get the mx5021. is it really worth it for rm500? or are there better choices at that price?

Added on February 9, 2008, 12:03 ami read a few recommendation floating around the internet regarding the MX5021's high treble problem. it seems the problem can be rectified with a higher grade audio cable. so chuck the supplied ones and go to your nearest car accesory shop and ask for 2 pairs of quality sound cables. this is due to the standard supplied cables having too much resistance to produce clear trebles.

Added on February 9, 2008, 3:42 amhi guys. do you know where i can find mx5021s in penang?

i wont be leaving town just to buy these speakers but i dont know where to find them in penang. i scared if i have to order the postage price will be very high for such a heavy speaker.

hey...that's the same as my first pc speaker.

I'm aiming to get MX5021 or FX6021.

so, by changing the audio cables solve all the problems with MX5021? hmm.gif interesting

Hi guys...

Got a Altec Lansing CS21 and Altec Lansing 621 here. Paired them with a Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 (modded with LME49720NA OPAMPS).

Since I have a number of spare LME49720NA around, I decided to open up the CS21 and change the stock OPAMPS NE5532 to LME49720NA. I solder sockets so that I can swap them in the future.

You can see the picture below.

Anyway, Here are my impressions (I think a detailed writeup later) of the sound after 1 month of breaking in.

Test materials:

Hotel California -Eagles (Hell Freezes Over album - XRCD version)
Bloody Sunday - U2 (War - Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab CD)
Blue TRain - John Coltrane (Bue Train - Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab CD)
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue (2003 remastered, SACD edition)
Beethoven String Quartet no 7 - Talich Quartet
Sheffield Drive - Sheffield Lab

Ripped to Hard Disc and played back thru Foobar2000 via ASIO.

The bass adjustment knob on the subwoofer is set to the default ie Middle of the line.

Stock OPAMPS (CS21)
Bass is overwhelmingly strong, Mids are very pronounced though a bit bright in the upper mid range
and the trebles are bright. Nice separation but lacking in depth and imaging.

LME49720NA OPAMPS (CS21)
Bass is much tighter, with a solid feel. The MIDs are smoother but is still noticeably birght in the upper mid range. The trebles have more body and air. Overall sound stage have expanded and more depth to the sound. You can sense the music playing inbetween the space of the speakers and extending beyond. Overall image have more body to them. Details are freaky....hear a lot more intrumental details than before....

Pianos, violins and guitars have body to them. Drum Kicks and Snares are tangible, with a solid Thump to the BAss Drum Kicks. The Snares have a tight whack, can hear the reverb in the room.

It's a nice sound but I feel as though the sound is a bit aggresive in the upper mid range for my taste.

I also compared this to the Altec Lansing 621. The 621 is quite neutral with a nice blend of the image, but I feel is lacking in body and imaging I get from the modded CS21. Am planning to mod the 621 with the LME49720 OPAMPS. I wonder if the imaging and body of sound will improve.

Brought back Alexis M1 Active MkII monitors from my studio and compared them sweat.gif .... Must say that the Modded CS21 comes quite close to the MKIIs... rclxm9.gif .....But of course there are somethings that the MKIIs will definitely sound better blush.gif ....
