Hi there jus got my MX5021 about 2 months ago from Thunder Match ... wasnt very satisfied when i 1st got the speakers back ... was maybe due 2 d small room at college ...but now seems quite ok when back home

um... guru's guru's can share ur setup wif mx5021?
... mine:
changed speaker wire to opel silver coated speker wire
using foobar2000 player
kxmixer driver on sound blaster live value 5.1
using ASIO output
resample SSRC 44100 =>48000 khz
and some other settings i also forgot ~~

... started 2 sound much better after all these ... any other stuff i can do or should do? plz advise

and whats abt the new version and old version mx5021? any difference apart from apearence?/ weight? hows d sound compared??

hm... d college single room was jus wickedly SMALL ~~ d room i have at home is much bigger and sound improved tremendously

and yep at college i enjoy d music from my friends room .... sounds like a very good quality and expensive system from OUTSIDE my own room :swt:

in room sounds like d sound is reflected n resonating within itself ... very "MESSY/NOISY" ... maybe d room was acting as a "box" with d door/ windows as its speaker output HAHAHA
fortunately at home i don face dis problem...

and yeah d mp3's are mostly from somewhere in cyberspace or d shared networks in college ....

on d sound card... hm ...go on poison me ... pass me some sugessions ??

and i did read abt the philips ext sound card ...... can gimme some insights on it paired up with mx5021?? and where 2 get the card + price ~~ may get a lappy soon so an external may jus be suitable

hm.... forgot to mention i masing 1 bar on windows vol and 2 bar on mx5021 vol... treble its set at 2nd light jus before turning to the 3rd and bass set 2 2nd jus right after it turned from the 1st.

using these settings and the silver wire i am using for the speakers seems like i get very clear and defined treble yet without screching high's ... wif original ones cables if i place d treble so low to avoid d screeching the sound will be "muffeled" like theres a pillow on it ... d cable solved d issue

btw anyone has a comparison from the older mx5021 and the newer ones? i am quite sure i purchased one of the newer versions would sooo like to know the differences ....

do i need 2 make my own wire to replace the original one which connects my soundcard(source) to the subs? will there be any significant /difference/improvements? and what would be the recomendations for the cable?? should i pair a warm(copper) wire or bright(silver) for the cable from soundcard 2 sub?? how will it effect the overall end?

um ... sorry for soo many questions .... but truely wan 2 learn from u sifu's

mod d cap? i saw something online b4 abt changing the opaamp and changing the caps to higher quality ones ... hm ... may attempt it once i m truely boored wif the current sound.

treble and bass? um ... only change for d speakers ... on my soundcard theres no treble or bass setting as i am using the KxMixer driver which somehow has lots of other settings and featured except those 2 ... -.-''

the real improvement to clarity imho really comes from the kxmixer driver and ASIO outputs ....

with stock standard drivers and direct sound output ... i was quite unhappy n depressed wif the sound quality of the speakers... almost wanted to jus sell it off after 3 days but tot i would giv it time as its not broken in yet.... and den after 2 weeks of breakin i really tot of selling it wasnt all 2 happy ... but luckily i searched for drivers and other alternatives even now ... i am not using any EQ settings ...

oh yah b4 dis i was on creative FPS series ... cambride soundworks not sure which FPS model... already 9 years old!! LOVED it but seems like d sound is starting 2 break apart

asio um... i forget d full name d but now i have 2 asio on my pc, one is callled ASIO4ALL ( search google for it ) and another comes with the kx mixer which is the replacement driver i am using ... check here http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?language=en ... some cards are supported some are not.

ASIO is basically a driver/ wdm/ not sure wat u call it but to my basic understanding it allows the sound card 2 do all the processiing without being interupted or reprocessed by windows ... it skips all windows processing and directs the sound directly allowing a "cleaner" feed / quality ... :blur: not 2 sure/good at explaining it better jus google it

2 use asio .... 1st need 2 install it on ur system ....den open your specific player and then select asio outputs.... insteed of direct sound... if u choose 2 do any resampling.... jus remember to make sure your resampling on ur player config and asio config is d same else it will not work ...

kxmixer? um look on the webpage i mentioned above for loads of info for my case i basically jus "installed it" without deleting old drivers (risky buy hell it worked like a charm)

try it out ... reali made my mx5021 sing ...

about the wires ... theres a lot of difference ... 2 me at least the sound doesnt sound muffeled when i turned the treble down 2 make it more natural sounding ... original wires made it sound .... VERY SHARP... if i wanted it to sound nice and not "muffeled" ... to my taste maybe it was a bit 2 screaching sharp for my ears in both enviroments i tried it in (small room & big) .... now wondering if theres any reason for me to change the soundcard 2 sub conection wire.....

if yes wat should i use and how will i effect the end quality..... should i choose warm(copper) or silver(bright) ones.......... need someone who has exp / tried it b4 2 gimme some insight ....

the cables bought for rm18/meter at an electronic shop in Taman Sentosa in JB ~... was there in d area ordered take aways and poped by the shop. i don remember d name of the shop but should be able 2 get there again if i was 2 pop to the restaurant ...

not 2 sure abt how 2 choose wires but i feel that as long the impendence is lower or equal to the original the sound should sound OK n not out of tone... den choose d material for brightness/warmh .... silver "brighter copper "warmer" ... mines silver so it gives the speakers brightness/ clarity(to me sounded like clarity not shreaking fineness) but by tuning down the treble i find a more "pleasing" without sounding muffeled like the original wires ... wif the originals wires turnign the treble high made it 2 sharp for my liking while tunign it down made d sound muffeled

do correct me on d wires if i am wrong ... jus mentioned these based on some comparison between some old wires my dad kept

.........lack bass? 2 me seems alot bass seem loud... when it was new i felt it lacked bass and 2 sharp/ artificial treble ... use for 1 month + and use edifier breakin tool for like 1-2 hrs should hear diff

in small room back at college, it didnt sound good at all ~~

mx5021 user here.... good ... or read a few post back for more infos

very sad... i am outgrowing my mx5021 ... 2 fast !!!! now even my car audio sounds like CRAP

sweet cables!! sky driver may i ask if the improvement comes from the stereo cables or speaker cables? i have not changed my stereo cables from sub 2 pc

haha indeed ... wait till 3-montsh of constant usage or more ... the sound wil improve even more ... not sure why ... maybe its finally broken in? :D so what wires did u use? how it sounds now??

mine is warm wif clarity minus the harshness and "noisyness" that was present initially

the bass of mx5021 ... sounds like a Hi-Fi system of a HUGE audio setup ... very similar to a system of 20 years(ya VERY OLD) at my home town which has a record player on top 2 cassset player.. needle dail radio tuner, amp and etc layer by layer and wif 2 speakers and in which IF the whole set is placed close together is the size of a big computer table

IMHO it tries 2 emulate sounds which is similar to those systems givng it depth and thats why the bass sounds the way it is very different from the puncy "upfront" bass that most pc systems have ... the difference is that the treble tend to be rather piercing sharp and sounds unnatural or it will hv 2 be rather flat to blend in with the bass.... cause its a 2.1 system... if it was a 2.0 system the sync would be much better blend i think

belive me or not ... set ur speaker treble to 2 dots and bass to 2 dots and turn the volume up to a reasonable sound so that u can hear it clearly outside the room where ur speakers r placed and u will feel that it sounds like a system which is much bigger than the mx5021 BUT at treble at 2 dots ... u lack the crisp clear highs and the different levels of it which u get from most female vocalist
