QUOTE(faidhi91 @ Nov 30 2013, 01:41 AM)
which is best for gaming and some programming software like netbean???
z510 which 4gb ram, nvidia gt740 and i5-4200m(i think) or
dell inspiron 8gb ram, ati radeon 8850m and i7-4200u....??
please help meeee~~~~~~
*
Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2699
It is spec with i7-4500U, there is no CPU labelled as i7-4200U
.
Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs

CPU firepower - Z510 with i5-4200M is faster, but also drain more battery.
GPU - 15R with AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) is better, but Nvidia GT740M has better GPU switching (Optimus) vs AMD (Enduro).
warranty - Z510 has 2 year, i5R only 1 year but on site.
Battery run time - 15R is longer.

It's a close call, really up to you.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - any

This is actually for my dad. He's not really into computers and mostly do work with it.
I tend to go for raw performance and biased towards gaming. My dad doesn't need that, so I figured it would be nice to see in someone else's perspective.

OS is optional. I have extra licenses around from MS Dreamspark.
Graphics is not a priority, so if it could lower the price or give additional boost in other areas (eg bigger screen, lighter, ultrabook?) would be nice.

Thanks guys!
*
unfortunately, in Malaysia, laptop models with decent CPU also get slap with discrete GPU (which your dad don't need).
With the budget, you have to taper your expectation.
if you go bigger screen (e.g. 15"), then it will not be lighter (15" normally is > 2kg). So what do you really want? Big screen or light?

FIFA 14 is not GPU demanding, so you can make do with GT720M (with your budget).
You can make do with i3.

S410p, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1799[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB, DOS; W8.1@RM1999

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
FreeDOS mean you need to get and install OS yourself. You should be able to get cheap legal OS from school.
Use the remaining of your budget, if any, to extend warranty (Dell, to 3 years ~ RM250).

Hai there..i'm glad that i found this forum and hopefully i can get recommendations from sifu-sifu  icon_question.gif
1.  any reliable brand
2.  Below 3300
3.  main purpose for gaming
4.  i7, and good graphic card
5.  15"

Questions
the price given is the exact price in selling?how far we can get the discount since u mention
the prices are negotiable?and im not expert in hardware..what determine gaming performance better?

Thank you so much smile.gif
*
The price listed are the price sifus found on brands' brochure. Re-sellers normally will sell lower than that price.
How much discount you can get is based on your negotiation skill smile.gif (and stock availability, or special promotion, or pending replacement by new model, or how much the re-sellers like your face tongue.gif ...). Also pay attention and make sure you get local set with proper warranty support.
Gaming performance, at your budget, is still capped by the GPU in the laptop, which in your case is Nvidia GT750M.
Another main bottleneck in laptop performance is the slow HDD, which you can speed up by upgrading to SSD when you have more budget (256G ~ RM600).

Hi guys

Please recommend ultra portables 14"-15.x" with full sized keyboard.

For ACAD, MS office etc

Preferably with SSD for system and < 2kg weight.

TQ
*
15" will not be < 2kg.
14" normally don't have "full sized keyboard" (I supposed you mean keyboard with dedicated numpad), except certain Fujitsu models.

sorry for asking here, if i want to buy dell laptop, which is better to buy from? Is it from the official dell website or from the reseller from lyn?
thanks in advance smile.gif
*
Dell website - If ready stock, deliver to you within 3-4 days. If need to build, could take a couple of weeks. Can pay by credit card, no extra charge. Need to negotiate to get discount from RSP using dell online chat. Can extend / upgrade warranty during customise stage. Can customise (but options have been reduced substantially in Malaysia). Have full range of models.

Resellers - Normally ready stock, don't need to wait. Payment by credit card is based on re-sellers' own policy. Normally already lower than RSP (but no harm negotiate a bit tongue.gif ). If you want to extend / upgrade warranty, have to ask re-sellers to help you (or you could directly) contact Dell, make sure you do it immediately or the extension cost may be quite different. Cannot customise (any customisation is after-market). May not have all the ranges. Need to make sure you get fully sealed brand new set (not display / refurbished set, unless you specially ask for those to get more discount).

1. Any EXCEPT Acer

2. +- 2k

3. MS Office, some charting software for trading forex/stockmarket, maybe Dota, but I don't need to have really good graphic

4.> 13" would be good

5. Good battery life

6. Good warranty and support

TQ sifu!

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
Make sure you get the 6-cell battery (not the 4-cell), then battery run time will be quite good.
GT720M will give better performance for Dota, but if you turn down the details, Dota is playable with Intel HD4400 (anyway, concentrate on making money rather than playing game laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif )
Extend warranty to 3 years on site for ~ RM250. Dell Malaysia has the best warranty support currently.

I thought on the first page of LYN, there are price list from quite a few re-sellers at LYP (cycom, jayacom, czone, startec, thundermatch, viewnet, allit) hmm.gif they list down quite a lot of SSD models.
Personally I only buy SSD from Intel, Samsung, Plextor, Crucial (no particular order).
You can try looking for Plextor M5S, there is (was) a promotion (buy 5 get 1 free, i think, from Plextor to re-sellers), 128G is (was) RM320, 256G is (was) RM570 (from Jayacom, iinm).

Hey guys, I am looking at both very similar laptop

Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2699

Both having same price, same CPU, same Ram, same HDD, the only noticeable diff are 14" 15.6" and diff GPU,

Generally I have no problem with both 14 or 15.6, so just wondering which graphic card is better? I did some research and most of the people said it is same. Thanks

Yes, the GPU is about on par on raw benchmark, performance may vary from game to game.
I still give a slight edge to Nvidia for its Optimus support over AMD Enduro hmm.gif

Hello all

1. Preferred Brand: Anything
2. Budget: About 1.5k MAX
3. Usage: More to work(office,movies..etc)..game very less likely.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13/14/15 inches. Lightweight with good battery life and cooling system.

Thanks smile.gif

Be realistic with your expectation.
15" will not be lightweight (< 2kg)
13" is out of your budget, mostly.
Don't expect good cooling system with your budget.
You can get some cheap 14" models. And don't expect light, unless you are willing to go to 11".
