1. Preferred Brand- dell or any other brand which can tahan lama
2. Budget- below 2k
3. Usage- paper works, movie, and sometimes games
4. Preferred laptop/screen size- 14"

Any recommendations?

Can't be sure models from Dell (or any other brands for that matter) can "tahan lama" hmm.gif
It is just that Dell Malaysia on site next business day warranty support is currently the best.

What game titles? Please specify or you cannot be sure what type of GPU you need.

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1849 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8@RM2049
Inspiron 14, i3-4010U + Nvidia GT720M @RM1749[1.99kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8.1SL, 4-cell
Inspiron 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699 [1.99kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8.1SL@RM1899

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
GT740M is a lot better a GPU than GT720M, but don't know if you need GT740M.
Please spend a bit (~ RM300) to extend warranty to 3 years for peace of mind.

Greetings sifu's

I went to check out the MSI lappies today . i particularly like the MIS  GE 60 -20c
Just wanted to know get some advice about these specs, whether it is suitable for 3dsmx and vray rendering, Photoshop, illustrator, and maybe some gaming like dota 2

but when i told my friend who seems to know something about computers he said it is not suited for 3d softwares and wont be able to last also because its a gaming laptop.

but im not looking to get a super awesome laptop, just a laptop that i can work with 3d softwares.

Interesting to know what laptop your "friend who seems to know something about computers" will recommend rclxms.gif

Help me sifuss on choosing my future laptop.

Ive been surveying laptoos and currently id chosen Hp Spectre 14 or Envy and Apple Macbook Air 13'' or Macbook Pro 13'' as most preferable laptop for me.

Question is.. among of those laptops tht i write out which 1 is the best tht u think ??? U can recommend me some from other brand also except acer, dell.. reasons i choose these lptops are bcus they looks high end to me furthermore their performance which is fast.. plus it is light and thin! I do need smtg tht is light and quite portable..

my usages are mostly for assignment tht needed for me to open a lot of tabs from browser and microsoft word in the same time.. so i need smtg fast and i reli hates lag!

Not reli for gaming but myb ltr i install Sdo in my future lptop.

Need sifus opinion, coment and recommendations hereee pleaseeee

Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Well i assume he knows something about computers, coz he builts his own desktops etc and he said with rm4k he can built me an awesome 3dsmax  desktop, but i dont really trust him to built a computer for me.

plus he says he wont recommend a laptop as he says for 3d renderings i need something about 5gb pipeline and cooling system or something like that and need to invest about 6k etc.  i was just blur blur.  lol
*
QUOTE(graceee @ Nov 25 2013, 04:02 PM)
I for sure know desktop will win hands down if compare to laptop for 3d renderings etc.
but for me as long as the laptop i can still do 3d renderings, im A-OK with it  icon_rolleyes.gif

but for now, im still stuck between buying the GE60-20c (RM3599) or coming out extra to get the GE70-20E . (RM4499)
*
keep an (actually both) eye on your budget smile.gif
You have to give us a bit more data before we go further.
You are doing this for a living. Want to make sure we get this right.
I supposed you have used 3dsmax on a desktop before. So for a typical job that you do for your boss, could you tell us the desktop spec that you have (CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD), and how long it take for that desktop to render your job in 3dsfax with vray?
This will give us a much better idea on the firepower you need.

(sorry to say this, but if your boss is too "cheap" to buy 3dsfax license, I suspect the "job" will not be too complicated? hmm.gif I don't suppose you work for animation studio, more likely interior design firm?)

in a way, your friend is right. If you run laptop to do render, and it get heat up, things could get nasty. So it depends on how much time to render, so that we can tell you whether you need laptop with good cooling setup or you can go by using some sort of external cooling solution (e.g. cooling pad, table fan ... )

QUOTE(graceee @ Nov 26 2013, 09:39 AM)
my previous company my boss installed the fake version i guess its a small company so the risk of someone coming and checking the license is very slim ( i think ) .
If i can remember , the cpu is i5 but i cant remember what comes after , the ram is at first 8gb then increased to 16gb , the rest im sorry but i cant remember unless i go back there and check lol, depending how big the file, if i up certain settings or use too much light the 3dsmax or alot of models will lag and rendering takes a little longer , maybe 20mins for one render.

yes my boss is cheap indeed but i thought about it in the long run, i can also use it whether i work for this company in the future or not, ( im still deciding =/ ) my boss is kinda china man and doesnt really understand the software and how trying to come out with realistic renderings will take alot of time etc . Yes you are a genius, interior design firm indeed, but honestly i never came across a company where they dont want to install 3d software ( maybe im still new to the market, barely 2 years exp )

That i totally get you , i dont mind to invest in a laptop with good cooling system but im not sure my budget will be enough, about 3.5k - 4k ( dont mind to go a little higher if theres good cooling system )
*
desktop i5, 16GB RAM, unknown GPU hmm.gif
20 mins for 1 render.
You could be in for some pain going with laptop hmm.gif laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
desktop i5 (even earlier gen) are quite powerful compared with mobile CPU i7 quad core.
You previous company setup should have some form of discrete GPU if they know what they are doing hmm.gif

ok, you should get i7 quad core CPU.
8GB RAM minimum (hopefully only take up 1 RAM slot, leave you with another RAM slot to up it to 16GB when you have more money later. 8GB stick ~ RM200).
With your budget, the best GPU is GT750M / GT765M. You need to learn to live with that.
Looking at your situation, you better set aside a bit of your budget to get good warranty support. Down time is serious no-no with Chinaman boss rolleyes.gif You need brand that give you good warranty support.
Cooling pad is a must for you. If your boss can give you a table fan is even better. 20 min rendering (where CPU / GPU work at max capacity) could heat laptop up pretty fast.

HP
Envy Touchsmart 15-J053TX, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080;touch)@RM3499[2.56kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8
Pretty good screen. Buy the care pack to extend warranty (get re-seller to help you), and see if HP is willing to sell you on site warranty.

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs
Screen is not as good. You can extend warranty to 3 years ON SITE for < RM200, do it.

www.illegear.com
Illegear RE-15, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080)@RM3499[2.6kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]
This is good, has the best build-in cooling among all models we suggest till now (but you still need to give it external cooling when you render), but good spec will totally blow your budget.
i7 quad core, 95% NTSC screen, calibration, 8GB RAM (1 stick), free 128GB SSD, OS (unless you want to go captain Jack), 3 years warranty, and it balloon closer to RM5k.

Hey you guys, I need to buy 4 laptops and am currently stumped and can't really make a decision. Currently in consideration are Lenovo S410P, Z510, Z410, Flex 14, Yoga 11s. I am actually looking for other laptops that can compete at the price level, reason why I'm here.

1. Preferred Brand - no preference.
2. Budget - 2k - 2.5k, no more.
3. Usage - split usage, 3 requiring disc drive and preferably full hd screens with good audio, 1 for photoshop and web work.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - anywhere from 13.3 - 15.6"

Hoping you guys can broaden my options and suggest some stuff.

Thanks in advance. thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

With your budget, you will not get FHD screen.
13" normally will not have ODD. So for "3 requiring disc drive" - you need to look for 14" or above.
laptop audio is not good, cheap < RM100 speakers probably is better. So don't pin your hope up.
"for photoshop and web work" - try to go for i5 CPU.

"3 requiring disc drive with good audio"

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyway found 1 laptop that suit me well. Any chances i could still get the Asus UX32VD with Core i5-3317U, Win8, 24G SSD with 500G HDD? Please pm me the price asap if you could get that. Thanks.

1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - RM 2000 ~ 2400
3. Usage - Watching movie, word processing, net surfing, excel
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - at least 14"
5. Additional : lightweight, ultrabook, international warranty (Singapore)
Can't decide between:

Dell
Vostro 5470 (touchsreen), i5-4200U + NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M 2GB DDR3, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8@RM2149

Vostro 5470 (non-touchscreen), i3-4010U + Intel® HD Graphics 4400, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm) + 32gb mSata, W8@RM2049

Should get better graphics and processor OR mSata? Prefer faster laptop when using mSata.

Or is there any other brand that is cheaper and better?

Please advice!

I think you have the spec flipped hmm.gif
The i5 spec with that price do NOT have touch screen.
The i3 spec with that price have touch screen.

Your usage don't need discrete GPU. Go with the mSATA SSD (unfortunately Dell really charge a lot for 32GB SSD and touchscreen).
