this beat the sh*t outta other laptops :

Illegear
RS-15 Lite, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX770M + (1920x1080)@RM4999[3.1kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster X-FI MB3], 8GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ] [GPU Options: Nvidia GTX765M, Nvidia GTX770M, Nvidia Quadro K1000M]

for answering your questions :

1. i5 is enough for gaming but if the game utilizes quad cores, dual core will bottleneck the performance.
2. any graphics card can be used to game, just depend on the settings you used. and yes, there is great difference between these GPUs if compared to GTX770/780.
3. its just the same matter. the only important is the battery need a good ventilation, if exposing to heat too much, it will eventually lead to faster battery degradation or explode (in serious cases). so precisely, removal of battery during gaming is recommended.

Bro, if this model

Asus N550JV-CN077H, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080; IPS matte)@RM3699[2.7kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, backlit keyboard
compare with

Asus S550CB-CJ102H i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB + (1366x768; touch)@RM2499[1.83kg], 4GB, W8

which one is better? i think S550CB with the 24GB ssd for cache will do better..correct me if i'm wrong thanks
*
both laptops are from different kind of world, so the comparison is wrong because the N550JV is a multimedia laptop while the S550CB is a consumer line laptop.

actually, what is your usage into first? even though you have a SSD cache, your gaming and professional application performance will be bottleneck with poor CPU and GPU.

My usage would be coding (software development: might running lots of browser tabs, running wampserver and netbeans), gaming (might be done at the same time with coding), and watching movie. biggrin.gif
*
the N550JV is much more suitable for you. 24GB mSATA caching just only helps you in loading. when it comes to some serious performance, the mSATA contributes nothing to it.

Well, shop sellers can never be trusted 100% tongue.gif

As for the screen, based on what I've seen, its pretty much like the other screens in budget line notebooks? hmm.gif
Its best that you go and see the real thing yourself. That'll help you determine whether you are okay with it or not. Chances are they screen will be fine icon_rolleyes.gif

The previous Z400/500 were designed in such a way that its hard to upgrade the RAM or HDD (some sellers won't do it for free). I think the newer batch are also based on the same platform, so please do take note ya icon_rolleyes.gif
*
IMHO, some sellers are knowledgeable and can be trusted, so i make it 90%. just majority of them has no knowledge in IT.

about screen quality, i had seen before some Lenovo models, the screen was washing out and have poor viewing angles, but mostly are acceptable. just they are not perfect as Dell's Truelife monitor.

Which model more stable and reliable?

all brands are just the same. no matter where you go, there is still chance of getting a lemon unit. so luck plays part of the role in IT world.

but i would prefer the Vostro 5470 for girls, as it is lighter and more compact.

QUOTE(KOHTT @ Oct 22 2013, 11:13 PM)
I got a noob questions here since out of touch of the latest notebook technology and software for quite sometime. I am still using window SP and dual core pentium notebook that run like turtle:

1) What is the most reliable notebook in the market now? Previously I heard IBM and Toshiba were the best but now IBM no more already. Heard that Acer is the worst.

2) What is the latest processor in the market? Does intel celeron lagging when we played with certain software?

3) Slim laptop screen - it that much lighter than the normal laptop? It seems like no much advantage to me...

4) Touch screen notebook - Is that really useful for the notebook or it is just something nice to have?

Thanks in advance.  rclxms.gif
*
1. IBM is under Lenovo now. if you ever heard before of IBM Thinkpad series, then now it is Lenovo Thinkpad. Actually, all laptop brands are the same. You cant run away from the risk of having a lemon unit, so luck is part of your purchase role. Btw, Acer has started to get better, especially starting from their ivy bridge lineups. So whenever people bullsh*ts about Acer sucks, i would ask them to think before they talk.

2. We dont call it latest processor, we call it latest generation. Now the latest is Haswell, which improves battery life and graphics performance. And FYI, Celeron is enough for office usage and watching HD videos. So to conclude, it wont lags.

3. Yes, but mostly implemented in ultrabooks to keep the slim and lightweight profile.

4. Useless. It is considered as part of a marketing gimmick and as an ad for Windows 8. Constant poking the screen can loosen the hinge and tiring (wont if you are holding the laptop on your lap).

IBM is still IBM (very much alive and kicking)  sweat.gif IBM only sold their laptop business to Lenovo, and Lenovo has been able to leverage technology they bought and implement them across Lenovo models (e.g. keyboard, recovery software ... ).

it depends on the specs of your hardware. i would say the best here is Z510, just the bad side is it has poor viewing angles and colours are a bit washed out.

*
weaker performance because of the ULV CPU used. however, the build quality on the ASUS is good, while Toshiba is somewhat a glossy surface (cheap plastic build). Lenovo ranked 2nd at here.

about keyboard, the only did good job here are the Lenovo Z510 and ASUS S551. the thin key sinks on the Toshiba gives very little feedback when typing, thus leads to uncomfortable typing (can be avoided if you have an external keyboard). backlit keyboard is only available for the Z510, the rest 2 none.

Haswell is the latest microarchitecture of Intel processors. the one your salesman mentioned is an Ivy bridge Pentium.

not really true, some features are limited in the Pentium than the Core i do.

prices are RRP and negotiable. use the remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years or upgrade RAM to 8GB (RM119 per 4GB stick, RM199 8GB). for the lenovo, you may have hard time to find a seller willing to upgrade for you the RAM due to back cover problems. so the RAM part can be omitted if 4GB is sufficient for you (my taste is 8GB is the best, dont know your taste though).
