Hmm I have a budget between 200-1000. Is there any minimalist watch that is recommended ?
*
Seiko. or stretch your budget and get a Tissot Visodate.

hi all, im a newbie about watch, looking for brand new watch like tag or omega, i like carera series but my fren told me go for omega better, any suggestion to me if my budget around 5-8k.
*
I think its above your budget, but the Omega Speedmaster Professional is legendary, google it. As a brand and watchmaker, Omega is above Tag Heuer in the food chain. But buy the one you like.

thx bro for ur suggestion, how much would be if speedmaster 57 and moonwatch series ?
*
I have no idea how much is it, best you go to a showroom and see it. DO NOT buy any other model, the REAL moonwatch is the Speedmaster Professional, Lemania based hand-wound movement. That is the legend (there's only 1 legend, not a range of legends).

Some member here got bad experience with Luminox, the local distributor is a crook apparently. End up going to tribunal. Besides the watch is crap-py IMO.

If you want someting rugged and along those lines, go with Victorinox.

What are more mainstream brand for watch at price below RM1000? hmm.gif

Actually I looking forward for more scratch resistant glass watch and non leather. Most of my watch end up glass got scratch or leather break off(even happen to my current genuine leather one but not sure is fully leather or half leather).
*
Seiko. Tissot.

Both can be had with Sapphire and bracelet below RM1000. Despite what anybody says, Seiko make good watches. Not sure if you can find Seiko automatics in Malaysia. And Tissot below RM1000, not sure if its an auto or quartz.

Pebble.. I won't support them. They f**ked people who backed them from the start over.

not much info on wiki... some sort of fundraiser but how here the backers fucuked?

Remember, Pebble was *nobody* and they became somebody because individuals backed them on Kickstarter.
After they became a runaway success, delivering stocks to Best Buy was more important than fulfilling the pledge they owed to people on Kickstarter. I'd call them crooks.

Technically speaking, Pebble didn't do anything illegal. But it goes to show "kacang lupakan kulit".

I believe in the end everybody gets their Pebbles. But does it make sense that you, a person who were among the FIRST to pledge and support Pebble on Kickstarter became one of the LAST to get it?

That any joker can walk into Best Buy and get it before you?

That's the whole issue. What's the point of supporting you on Kickstarter if I'll be among the last to get my stuff.

Well. I personally won't support a company who conducts their business as such. Don't deny that at this time it is a good product compared to other "smart watches". But I believe Apple will come out with something better.

Still cant find a compelling reason for wearables like smartwatches.
*
What if it can monitor heart rate, calories burned, ECG, pedometer, GPS, make payment, unlock doors?

Give it around 20 years. We will get there.
By then I think mechanical watches would be as obscure as vinyl. I assume.

Somehow I'm skeptical. We already have a device that does or potentially do all that... ie the phone.
*
Wearables is the next horizon. Google Glass...and smart watch. Why carry a phone when you wear it on your wrist? Or your glasses?

QUOTE(gmail @ Dec 19 2013, 11:20 AM)
Same. I still prefer something mechanical when comes to watches.
*
Frankly speaking, ALL of us, myself included, preferred an actual keypad, i.e. Blackberry over early touch screens using reflective technology. But today? Everybody is on touchscreen.

What we prefer today, is based on what is available today.

Just cause someone prefers to walk over taking a horse before cars existed, doesn't mean he won't prefer the car over walking.

Still premature now. Just like how I rather ride a horse than drive the first cars that were invented.

We shall see and we can revisit this discussion in 20 years. Haha.

But a mechanical watch.. is a thing of beauty... hearing it tick... oh yeah.. Electronics are lifeless... and they can just go up in smoke and die on you the next day.

Well.. in this day of age...a mechanical watch isn't really a watch.. like Rolex..its a luxury goods.

Our phones can tell time more accurately than any watch, maybe except casio atomic sync ones..they would be on par.

in that respect, its better to wear a gold bracelet for like rm2k than pay rm30k for something similar and that doesnt even tell time accurately tongue.gif
*
Paying RM30k for something similar that doesn't tell time accurately goes to show I am THAT rich. I can afford something that is utterly useless and costs 10x more than precious metal.

http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2008/04/25/the...esnt-tell-time/

It doesn't even tell time, but its sold out. And its USD$300,000 a pop.

Conversation between rich ppl probably goes like this:

Rich Man #1: Hey look at this Platinum Patek Calatrava, just got it, simple and elegant. I think it goes well with my silver Veyron.
Rich Man #2: Oh yeah? Look at my A.Lange Sohne Lange 1 Time Zone. White gold yo! And I can check the time the stock market opens in New York. Sometimes I fall asleep in my Jet on the way to Europe, good to know if its day or night at 1 glance.
Rich Man #3: Oh that's nice, check out my watch, it doesn't even tell time! And its sold out! You can't get it anymore! Only $300k. Absolute bargain, that's only a fraction of the price of my Veyron!

rm30k isnt a huge amount for someone to save up.
and ironically the rich dont pay for stuff that is utterly useless.
not sure what kinda crowd u hang out with, but even the royalty i know dont talk like that tongue.gif
*
Royalty? Have you seen how rich China men are? They are RIDICULOUSLY rich. And China men being themselves, they love showing off. I almost want to cry seeing them bottoms up Lafite 2010. WINE, BOTTOMS UP!

To them, its not useless, its showing off.

QUOTE(bernard79 @ Dec 19 2013, 09:26 PM)
One could easily tell the build quality between a sub and HC... Refinement is way ahead of HC but of course the price justifies!
*
One invented the design, the other copied it. Of course the price justifies the real thing.

Oh well, Longines is now just a glorified Swatch..so is Omega...so is Blancpain.. wahahahahaha.

*cabut*
