I like that model too nut the overlapping subdials are deal breaker for me  doh.gif

Even the original one in 1969 A386 also had the overlapping sub dials. I guess meat for some, poison for others.

Interesting....

Luxury Insider Interview: Angelo Bonati for Panerai

Panerai has a uniquely Italian history. Why then does Panerai continue to make its watches in Switzerland? Is there a conflict?

No conflict at all! Let me answer in two ways: Firstly, just looking at our history, you will know that it is something very consistent with Panerai from its very beginning. When our founder Mr Panerai came up with the watch, he had a very demanding customer – the Italian military.

Wow, thanks for the insight. So the iconic Panerai case is actually derived from.... a ROLEX? shocking.gif So what part did Mr.Panerai did design?

The dial

Sure the Italian Navy didn't specify the dial in their requirements to Mr.Panerai? Just curious.

my co-axial SMP bezel got scratches. nothing major just hairline. should I buy from ofrei and send them to any experience watchmaker or change the bezel during next service ? which one is better and cheap ? or just let them be ?  laugh.gif

The scratches on your SMP defines YOUR SMP. Its like battle scars to signify that it is yours. If it looks brand new, its no different than the piece sitting in the shop.

Other people may not appreciate/like buying a watch with knocks and dings unless it has historical significance, e.g. grazed by a bullet that attempted to assassinate the POTUS. But if its your own watch, for your own wear.. I don't see why its such a big problem.

Of course, different people got different views. That's just my 2 cents.

The money spent on replacing the bezel can be kept in the war chest to acquire another time piece. Maybe a Patek which you can then keep in the safe in "like new" condition.

That's gonna come back to bite them... too asian focussed.

That is very true. Don't know why they do that. I don't feel excited with Longines that much and can't see the appeal. Not being snobbish, I feel Oris has an appeal, so does Tag..but Longines.. not sure how to view it.

500 is hardly limited IMO. If you have enough money and you're fast, you can get it. Pateks, in the single digits.. that's limited.

So I did some reading.. the Unitas 6497 is a $80 movement. Now looking at unlabeled Panerai homage.. looks..exactly..like..the..real..thing. Including an actual Swiss Unitas movement.
