And here from THE MAN himself. Skip to 4:55 but definitely worth watching in its entirety.

Could be like his Ford GT phase... after a while, he realized the silliness.

Anyway.. speaking about big military watches.

Why are these so in demand everywhere including the US, UK and France commanding big bucks for modern versions and crazy $$$ for vintage.

my co-axial SMP bezel got scratches. nothing major just hairline. should I buy from ofrei and send them to any experience watchmaker or change the bezel during next service ? which one is better and cheap ? or just let them be ? laugh.gif

cheap? i'm guessing u got no idea how much the bezel is...cos its definitely not cheap.
better just live with the scratches for now.
but if still want to change, just buy from omega and let them do it...price wont be much different.

The scratches on your SMP defines YOUR SMP. Its like battle scars to signify that it is yours. If it looks brand new, its no different than the piece sitting in the shop.

Other people may not appreciate/like buying a watch with knocks and dings unless it has historical significance, e.g. grazed by a bullet that attempted to assassinate the POTUS. But if its your own watch, for your own wear.. I don't see why its such a big problem.

Of course, different people got different views. That's just my 2 cents.

The money spent on replacing the bezel can be kept in the war chest to acquire another time piece. Maybe a Patek which you can then keep in the safe in "like new" condition.

I know it cost around 200+ usd at ofrei. What I mean by cheap is some people on WUS said its much cheaper to change the bezel during service rather than change bezel only at omega. I don't mind with the scratches at all. Just asking better solution if in case the future I want to change them.

yea obviously cheaper to do it with service since its absorbed.
also iirc the smp bezel also needs to use the omega bezel removal tool which ofrei sells for around usd800, not something that a local 3rd party guy here is willing to buy.

Legend diver is compressor case =/= external bezel like the FF or Sub.

Anyway, that's the point I'm trying to make.. everyone plays with these "military heritage" (some more than others) while its totally ignored for the Japanese.
