QUOTE(fox_shinoda @ Sep 9 2013, 11:20 PM) It seems my GX60 doesn't download the Windows Update, it's just stay there at 0% Just let it be. Windows Update has been like that since... forever. 0% for hours and suddenly 50%. Also, the first update is bound to take a long time, don't worry. Anyone got this issue before? A word of reminder though, DO NOT do any Uxtheme patching before you update - or be ready to refresh/reset/reformat. If you have no idea what I'm talking about then you're fine. I'm still quite new with this gaming laptop stuff
Eventhough the cooling system found on gaming laptop, the usage of the notebook cooler is still a must? Any recommendation of which cpu temp app I should use? My last 3 laptop, if I'm at home,I just take out the battery and just use the power adaptor. Is that recommended for my GX60? |

@jiayi29 and Jomjolu: Welcome to the MSI family!!!
QUOTE(fox_shinoda @ Sep 10 2013, 01:32 AM) I'm still quite new with this gaming laptop stuff CPU temp apps? I personally use HWiNFO64, it's tiny, quick, is native 64-bit and provides all the info I need in cute tiny coloured tray icons. Plus it works with the MSI Afterburner app to provide in-game OSD for temp-monitoring (read: you can check your temps IN GAME). Finally because the developer is a nice guy who QUICKLY repairs whatever problems you can report about his app (personal experience).Eventhough the cooling system found on gaming laptop, the usage of the notebook cooler is still a must? Any recommendation of which cpu temp app I should use? My last 3 laptop, if I'm at home,I just take out the battery and just use the power adaptor. Is that recommended for my GX60? If you need more WOW bling bling effects, try out Rainmeter. For ULTIMATE customization, there's Samurize, but that's effing hard to set up. As for laptop coolers, it depends; but generally they DO help. Take care in purchasing a cooler though, don't get something that pushes air into the wrong places (check your air intake vents first), and the cheapest "good" cooler I can recommend is the Coolermaster X-Lite II, as it uses a huge-ass fan that blows air EVERYWHERE. As for batteries and plugs... Well, let me tell you a story. I tried gaming on the GE40 with my battery out one time and my adapter got fried. Bzzzt pop. So, while taking the battery out helps prolong the life of the battery, it MIGHT kill (or at least shorten the life of) your adapter - especially if your laptop (the GX60) has strange power consumption habits like my GE40 (130++w max power intake, 90w adapter provided. Go figure). Also if your laptop has NOS advertised (like certain other MSIs like the GT70) DON'T PULL OUT YOUR BATTERY because NOS is just MSI's fancy way of saying "we know for sure this thing will require more power than just your adapter can provide at full load". But then again, the battery is RM500++ and universal adapters are RM100++, so uh... it's your call. @Unseen83: Is it a "Driver Power State Failure" BSOD? If that's the case it's your Bluetooth. Bluetooth has been throwing this error SINCE Vista and I have NO IDEA why Microsoft isn't fixing it. All you need to do is to uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Hardware --> Generic Bluetooth Adapter (or whatever) --> Properties (click on the admin button) --> Power Management. Poof, no more Bluetooth BSODs. That said, besides that particular Bluetooth BSOD (and that HORRIFYING Uxtheme Windows Update conflict that needed me to completely RESET the laptop - PLEASE USE UXSTYLE TO THEME WINDOWS PEOPLE), I have NEVER had any other BSODs or such issues so far. EDIT: "Kernel-Power 41 (63) error" seems to be related to audio driver conflicts. One guy had 3 audio drivers installed at the same time (lolwut?) and he got that error. Try checking your audio drivers if you you get this. This post has been edited by Eiraku: Sep 10 2013, 11:31 AM |

QUOTE(fox_shinoda @ Sep 10 2013, 12:57 PM) just download HWiNFO64, good stuff Word of caution though, the pop-up legs on the X-Lite II gets a bit... loose. Also some of the DeepCool single fans also seem okay, as their more expensive "MultiCore" with 4x fans. gonna head down to lowyat again today to buy the Coolermaster X-Lite II so far it's been 2 days I used my laptop with the battery taken out and still looks ok Lastly there's also the Coolermaster U2/U3, but be prepared to buy extra U1 fans from Thundermatch LYP because frankly, the U2/U3 fans suck. As for the battery, if it's okay for you then no worries. I think the 120w AC adapter should be enough. QUOTE(horns @ Sep 10 2013, 12:46 PM) i know it's weird but i have 5 different audio drivers installed in this system currently (via system sound; asus xonar u7 usb; sb tactic 3d sigma usb; sb recon3d usb; and steelseries 7h usb). no such issue so far. Well, the guy had 3 drivers FOR ONE DEVICE (his onboard sound) lol. Different drivers for different audio cards/chipsets (including "virtual" devices like the Razer Surround thingy) should be no issue.however, maybe the usb sound will not have such conflicts (plus i don't plug all in at the same time). But than again "drivers" have long been something like alchemy, ever since the early days. It's part science, part luck and part godforsaken black magic mambo jumbo LOL. @Unseen83:. Mind sharing the link to the Killer 1202 WIFI drivers that you used? I'm getting it soon (found one for cheap) and hopefully I can sidestep that BSOD you got. Googling other similar cases usually work better than diagnosing event logs, at least in most cases. pity the OS trying to make sense of things eventually gave up and showed him the blue face. yeah drivers are always mysterious. with so many driver helpers that work in the background, sometimes it's really a PITA to troubleshooting the actual problems. event logs might be helpful but most of the times you just have no idea what happened :/ But yeah, drivers. They either work... or don't, with nary a clue why. Real hocus pocus lol. |

LoL..
Eiraku will never let that experience with his adapters go... Do batteries really cost that much? RM 500? Also, while batteries costs RM 500 and adapter costs RM 100... the headache and time spent on friend adapters = priceless There are some things money can't buy.. for others, there's Master Card. |
