QUOTE(Eiraku @ Sep 9 2013, 08:35 PM) Not gonna argue there. I've been okay so far (zero issues) but yeah, unstable RAM can botch up a LOT of things. I know I argued that 1.5 is usable, BUT that is only if you get LUCKY. There is no guarantee that any 1.5/1.65v stick will work with Haswell, and Russian Roulette isn't good for your laptop. I guess its a hit or miss thing. I've been reading about the issue. Apparently some regular DDR3 (1.5V) can operate well with mobile Haswell. So if you get some good binned chips, they would work. Some wouldn't cope with the lower voltage and hence you get all sorts of RAM related issues. My old DDR3 modules were very tricky. They appear to post, boot and operate well. But somewhere deep, some weird issue has been brewing. So guys, unless you don't have a choice (I wanted to play the "authorised dealer RAM addon" card when I bought my GE40 and they didn't have any LoVo), stick with LoVo (DDR3L/1.35v). QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Sep 9 2013, 10:11 PM) what model msi NB you using? have u exp BSOD call Power Kernel code 41(63) ? is like random error... i notice got it from every time i go on major upgrade... but then is no more BSOD... and Driver always get corrupt but is easy fix just re-install driver... (corrupt also random/ Gpu /Sound or wifi driver) Mate, I'm on the GT70 2OC. Nope, never saw the BSOD (Power Kernel code 41/63) before. I only saw 0x0003b once immediately after log into Windows 8, then it restart. I've also seen the display go wonky with a lot of lines and then restart. On one occasion the advanced startup (for diagnostics) wouldn't boot. Then once in awhile, I get driver failure here and there. Was diagnosing one after another. Then it occur to me that perhaps it was the RAM. Took them off, restore from image. Has been rock solid ever since.By the way, I still have 3 remaining problems: 1. I'm on the latest Killer 1202 driver. Every time when Windows 8 boots up, the wireless connection would be disconnected. It'll take awhile before it'll connect. I can see that it already detect the SSID (it appear on the list), but just wouldn't connect to it. Unless I give it some time and it'll connect automatically. 2. On random times, the Killer 1202 would lose connection, especially when I come out of a full screen application such as a game. During online gaming, its rock solid. Never lose connection at all. 3. Does your device manager list 'Intel Display Audio' under the Sound section? When I was re-installing both Intel and Nvidia drivers, I saw that appear in device manager but with a halt sign (status power failure). Then it disappear. I remember Intel Display Audio is for routing sound through the HDMI connection. But isn't the HDMI and Display port powered/hardwired to the Nvidia card anyway? I tried plugging it into a TV, sound works just fine through the HDMI. |

@Elysian: It's a terribad MSI oversight, supplying 90w adapters for a laptop that sucks 130w at full load. AND that was the ONLY real issue I have had with the GE40 anyway lol, everything else has been super.
@davidmak: Oh mai. I'm waiting for my 1202 to come in to replace my Intel Advanced-N (which in turn replaced the single-band Azurewave crap MSI was bundling with the GE40). I got a Broadcom BCM943228HMB too from eBay but that came faulty (ugh). Yeah, I've gone through 3 WIFI cards already. Now using the Intel, which ONLY works with the standard Win8 driver - upgrading it to anything newer from Intel makes it stupid lol. Don't tell me the 1202 has issues too. Sheesh. Does ANYONE make GOOD, SOLID WIFI cards ANYMORE? This post has been edited by Eiraku: Sep 11 2013, 12:41 AM |

I'm glad to see that there are many MSI gaming laptop owners now.
Most of you are using Windows 8? Isn't it better to use Win 7 for gaming? Besides that, I guess you wouldn't face as much problem with drivers in Win7. Btw, great job on the event organising specially for MSI gamers |

QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Sep 11 2013, 02:53 PM) no error cannot be overcome with mighty MSI NB !! Ya, but still, Windows 7 is still preferable. Until today, I have not converted over to the Win 8 due to compatibility issues and the interface. I don't like the swiping gesture using a mouse, it seems silly though it actually takes time to adapt to it.I still like Windows 7 the way it is. Anyway, what is the average price of a GT70-2OD in Malaysia anyway? Above 6k for sure? I've been with my rig for 2 years, still kicking ass with games at acceptable graphical performance, haha. Definitely no regrets buying it for the performance that it can offer. Except now it has temperature issues after I fixed my display cover, currently at maintenance. Anyone tried Super Raid 2? Worth the money? 0_o |

QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Sep 11 2013, 03:19 PM) well 2 year ago i also have NB with win7... Haha, nice try dude. I'm not buying, just trying to speculate the market for gaming notebooks in Malaysia. With the demand getting higher, it would get more affordable in the future =)x RM6,700 x wanna buy GT70 20D Edit: i swap my super raid to sata3 so normal ssd for me.. and discount my gt70 price I won't be buying 1 until next 2-3 years, still satisfied with mine and I still feel there are certain technology that are still new and needs to mature a while. Killer 1202 has been out for a while, I'm looking forward for the same type of Killer 1202 but with an extra antenna, that would be great I'm actually very curious about the Super Raid 2, I wonder if it's actually worth investing on for just a gamer and some minor editing work. hi i heard that msi warranty void stick under the screw doesn't matter... that you can do it yourself but it doesn't void the warranty, that the MSI people themselves will break the sticker when they open the laptop...
Is it true? |
