btw any piper here? need some advice on tobacco leaves...

i remembered some1 told me to store the leaves in the fridge for a day, and then take it out n let it air for a day or 2 in a room to bring out the aroma. is this true?

or did i got that wrong?

Well, I pretty new to pipe but I have tried a lot of blent...
I may not be good in this and hopefully I can help a little with my experience.

Everyone have their own taste. Like everyone do.. I start with Captain Black aromatic tobacco. I tried a few bowl and find out it is too dry for me.
So what I do is I visit tobaccoreview(dot)com and I manage to see a blent with very good review. The brand name is McClelland, Frog Morton.
Without considering, I went to the tobacco store near my place and request for information on this.
The shop keeper keep on telling me that Frog Morton are for experience pipe smoker and not for beginner like me since Frog Morton have Latakia Tobacco which normally a beginner with dislike. I insisted and make my purchase of McClelland, Frog Morton Cellar.

Open the tin of Frog Morton Cellar and I smell BBQ!!! Try a couple of bowl and I am stuck into it!!! Sweetness from Virginia and some sour from Latakia... This is my very 1st English Blent and I say bye bye to Aromatic Tobacco once and for all...

Until current, I still stick with McClelland Frog Morton series (Frog Morton, Frog Morton Cellar, Frog Morton on the bayou, Frog Morton on the town & Frog Morton across to pond). I have tried McClelland straight virginia blent (Christmas Cheer Year 2012) which is pretty much sweet but you need to actually leaving it a few months to get the great original tobacco sweetness from the blent.

When I am poor, I go for Peterson since it is much more cheaper comparing to McClelland. (McClelland - RM55 50g Tin & Peterson - RM36 50g Tin).
As for Peterson I personally tried Sunset Breeze, University Flake & Old Dublin. Sunset Breeze is a good blent which is suitable for mostly all newbie..
As for University Flake, it is a pretty good virginia tobacco but I personally prefer McClelland, Christmas Cheer over this. As for Old Dublin, it is pretty much same to McClelland Frog Morton but a little less sweetness.

Please note that the sweetness I mention are not those aromatic sweetness. The sweetness I mention is the original tobacco sweetness which you can taste with you tongue (A little bit of honey sweetness hitting your tongue when you puffing the smoke).

Hope this helps...

My friend is going to US for a business trip next week. I am going to ask him to help me get some Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipes from US.

Please let me know any of you guys interested. I may take some extra for you guys... Price range is about RM60 each. Only "Legend Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob Pipe" because I don't want to confuse my friend here.
Please note that what I mentioned are brand new perfect condition. NOT 2nd grade or China made...

You guys may PM me to discuss on how many pcs you guys want. But please understand, my friend can only carry limited quantity (Hand Carry)..

My friend told me he can only hand carry 10pcs max for me..

I want to try pipes but would prefer a wooden rather than a corncob one due to aesthetics.
Btw, where can one find other shops selling pipes in KL area other than Kamelah, Cigar Lounge and Gulamsa Pertama Complex?

Not sure... because I'm from Penang.
Is not wooden... is called Briar...

Well... depends... one may cost RM200~1200 for Brair Pipe and Cob is only RM60~80....

I already have 2 Briar Pipe... Well... the pipe need to break in enable to fully taste the tobacco...
Where Cob don't really need to break in...

Certain tobacco may taste better in Cob... ans certain taste better in Briar...

So far Straight Virginia doesn't really taste good in my Briar... that is the reason why I want to get Cob...
From review... Straight Virginia taste superb in Cob...

glad that you like it  rclxms.gif
i personally like van nelle
Drum is considered as 'halfzware shag' and Van Nelle is 'Zware shag'
so the zware shag flavour is much stronger
or you can try Golden Virginia, loved by most mat salleh too =p

market price for Erinmore 25g is increased to RM10 since i last worked for supplyin tobaccos
the price should be same if not mistaken....so 50g is just double the price of 25g so its RM20 =)

I watched from youtube that a normal unbranded corncob is actually pretty cheap and can be bought for as low as 99cents. RM60+ is a bit too high i suppose?

Guys, I've been trying to find the longer rolling papers...but no luck so far. Does anyone know where I could find something equivalent to a kings/superkings in Malaysia? Or at the very least longer than 70mm sweat.gif

Also, any shops that carry Rizla? Kinda got used to them but very hard to find in Malaysia. Oh, and Golden Virginia tobacco too if anyone knows where to get em smile.gif

COOL!

Never thought KK mart would have them...Best I could find from them before was Drums (The first baccy I tried into my foray of rollies biggrin.gif). I guess I should've tried a few other outlets.

Thank you ever so much! biggrin.gif

I just bought a pack of unitas excellent kir royal. Do you know if the babies has chemicals in it? I know tobacco from BAT has chemicals (like normal cigs).

It's very harsh comparing to Mac Barens that I normally get. I just wanted something stronger.

they do. but mostly for flavours and preservative. nothing as bad as normal cigs(i.e ammonia so that the nicotine can be absorb better).

yes, unitas stuff are a bit stronger on the flavour side. mac barrens are no where as good as they were before(old packaging). harvest, ok if desperate. i used to roll pipe tobacco. better taste. also, try to stick with original flavour, all the flavoured rolling tobacco are basically crap nowadays. golden virginia is a good choice.

suddenly this thread becomes active again, cigarette price too much nowadays? brows.gif

ah thanks for that.

Yea I've read about Mac Barrens being better in their older packaging. I also got a pouch of Passion (old packaging). My friend has been rolling for years, but i didn't start until the price went up. And I realized I like it more than normal cigs besides the savings.

i've been rolling since 2006 ended march this year. indeed, it's way better than boxed cigs.

actually passion is still the newer line. the old packaging i'm refering to looks like this:

Ciggys are way overpriced nowadays. Started rolling back in uni days where it was more affordable. GBP -> MYR was a killer back then with a 7+ rate sweat.gif Realised that it actually taste better as opposed to normal ciggs. Just damn mafan to handroll (I don't like using the machine coz somehow it just can't be as tight as a hand rolled one).

Came back to Malaysia where it was cheaper and found that it was hard to source for my usual baccy...so sort of gave up on it. Until the recent price hike. Now I'm actively searching and trying different brands. Thanks to you, I know where to find them now! biggrin.gif

Vapers any good though? Some swear by it while some...says it really sucks (pun not intended laugh.gif)

since march i've only bought 1 packs of mac barren pipe tobacco. smoked on and off when i feel like it, like leisurely. vaping most of the time. no more tobacco since august. so i guess it's working for me. you do miss the morning nicotine kick from time to time though. yawn.gif
