hm, a look more in the spec in gsmarena, zu and z1 using the same chipset, cpu, gpu, internal memormy with sd card slot, IP58 certified .

zu -- larger screen, better viewability from an angle, slight longer battery life

z1 -- 20.7mp which yet to prove its quality

looks like zu still better if compare like this

For me regarding z1 viewing angle issue r both good n bad news for me, the bad news was i quite disappointed as sony shud at least use the same panel as zultra, the good news is i now hav a reason to not upgrade from my z to z1 i was expecting a superb display like zultra, but in this case i'll pass.

Regarding the display.viewing angle issue, i wonder could it be that sony have issue with it supplier for supplying a good panel for 5" screen n below, cause it seems that all of sony's bigger screen from zultra 6.3" to10.1 tablet z dont have any viewing angle n wash out color issues, in fact even my first sony tablet s had a great display with no viewing angle n washout color issue. Thus i assumed 6" and higher of sony products used ips panel, 5" n below used a inferior panel.

Ya, looks likely is, and this is bad decision then.

so z1's panel is worst than z ultra's? i know some tech reviewers are quite content with it.. if it's that bad i'll have to reconsider

just wait for the demo... then decide...

Plenty topic people open talk about the viewing angle issue now.

It seems obvious Z1 display is not as good as Z Ultra where viewing angle issue is return back, it might not as bad as Z, but it is not one of the best.

I wonder why Sony cannot use good panel? Come on, I think in market now only Sony still using viewing angle issue display panel. Viewing angle issue panel not only the angle issue, it also got issue when open too bright, the whole screen from black became grey.

Now in market, all flagship phone is using awesome display panel, this include Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, or even those China brand phone like Lenovo, Huawei, all display panel is awesome and solid.

Why can't a big and only Japan worldwide brand cannot keep on using good panel? Really speechless.

thanks for the link^, have been scratching my head for awhile now regarding the screen. screens are what we interact with on smartphones, i really wonder why sony would release subpar lcd's time and time again . btw do you pocket your zu? or hold in hand?

Is it really that bad? I think it's still at least a little better than the previous Z from the looks of it. Still doesn't explain why would they not use a better screen for their flagship device though.

I put at pocket when not bring bag. In safely environment, I will hold on hand.

best thing to do is try the demo unit and judge the display for ourselves
