is the tern link P9 already discontinued? i google to check for specs, but to no avail. even on the official website. can someone confirm this?

It's till a current model. Available almost everywhere nowadays. Also check the Dahon 2014 Vigor P9, the Dahon MU P9 as well. It's cheaper in fact. Better rims, better handle post but lousier shifter and tires though! But much cheaper! The RD hanger is easier to source and the Vigor is much lighter too. icon_rolleyes.gif Don't take my word for it though, check every model out and the only place I know stocks all the models is Rodalink, Bandar Botanic, Klang. Expensive there, just check which model you want and buy somehwhere else. If you don't know where, I can guide you to a cheaper place to get!

Have you ever tried braking hard and your brakes squeal like nobody's business. That's because of the powdery stuff the friction cause and also the bad quality of most V-brake pads. The other day, I changed a set of road bike's brake pads onto my wife's Boardwalk and the Avids which I installed on her bike can accommodate it without problem. We even tested it going downhill from Fraser's Hill ( a long 50 minutes downhill ) and the Baradine road bike pads were superb thumbup.gif Also with foldies, the rim size which is smaller is better suited to shorter brake pads like the road bike's. Mountain bike pads are longer and hard to accommodate and also the availability of mountain bike pads are limited as most of them have gone disc. Even if they have Kool Stops and XTR pads are expensive! rclxub.gif Road bikes which uses rim brakes have more choices and also they are shorter and more suitable for smaller foldie rims.

Some V-brakes like the pixs below cannot fit in the road bike pads and I filed the caliper pad opening a little wider (just slightly) so the holder can fit in. You might need washers to space them correctly though. Great braking! thumbup.gif

I was browsing around Rodalink (Taman Botanic, Klang branch) after exchanging a bag and I found a bargain. The Dahon Boardwalk D8 is priced at RM1096 after a 20% discount. That plus the automatic member after RM500 purchase will entitle another 5% discount which will come to RM1041. Only green colour left though!

Also there's a Tern Link P24 selling also very cheap at RM2.5K. This has 8 speed conventional gears plus another 3 gears internally, so that makes it 24 speed. The old Terns still uses the Kinetic Comp rims from WTB which is much superior than the ones they provided now.

I also saw an old old Dahon F10 which is a full size 26 inch mountain bike with suspension front fork. Like most Dahon, it can be folded! Sad point it cost RM9K plus and plus point, they are selling it at 50% discount. Another plus point all drivetrain components are SRAM X9 which is an expensive groupset! Another bad point........there's a dent on the top tube!

All other bikes 10% discount.

For starters, I would rather go for Dahons or Terns, even the Vybe or Tern Link C7. It's proven and no regrets later. If you can't spare the extra RM200, I think you should go for the Raleigh. Those on groupon  are crappy bikes and so is the Reebok which is actually not worth that much. Go to Kimbell Jaya in Taman Hussein Onn. You can get a Dahon Boardwalk (8 speed) for a little over 1K and that is a good buy. Nice geometry, sturdy folding and good ride. The shop also stocks Raleigh, Dopplegangers and some other brands.

I just bought the the last unit of Dahon Boardwalk D8 (8 speed) from Kimbell Jaya on Christmas day 2013. It's a good buy as etigge said. Not sure if the new stock arrived already or not as I heard from the boss saying that there is a new batch of stock coming soon.

Most shops don't have demonstration units. Plus many don't have trainers for 20 inch wheelers. So, I guess, no trying. Both this shops don't have a space to try.

Hi, i am planning to start riding foldies and i am considering between these :

1. Raleigh ugo, or

2. Mongoose foldie (http://www.mudah.my/Mongoose+lightweigh+folding+bike+-24432072.htm?last=1)

Appreciate your input. I am 90kg. Would my weight spoil this mongoose foldie's thin wheels?

Raleigh Ugo is a proven tough bike but a bit heavier and also for RM850 or there abouts, it only has 7 speed. I never seen the Moongoose before but judging from the frame geometry, it imitates KHS. I don't know about the metal used too so I can't really judge but it does has multiple chainring in the front though and for RM800, it's a steal. But so highly spec-ed bike which cost RM800 seems to be doubtful, especially the components. The slick tires is not a problem as it is compensated with higher tire pressure but ride is bumpy though.

Given me, I still go for the Raleigh BUT if possible at least go for the Dahon Vybe which might be another RM100 extra compared to Raleigh but the quality is at least assured!

Hmm yeah, can use it to learn about foldies slowly (talking about mod, etc in the future), provided the bike is solid as well.

I started with 1 Dahon Eco C7, then another one for my wife and then modded them to 27 speed ( 3 X 9 ). After buying more expensive models, the older components are shifted to the new bikes and the newer components installed on the old frames and sold. The components used on my Eco C7 is partially still on Vigor and Speed . The Eco C7 ( it is called the Vybe now )take abuse from me (100 kg) through thick and thin, even off roading in FRIM. And when it was sold, they were still in good condition.

Since u mentioned KHS, i saw this : http://www.bicyclebuysell.com/item/225168/...hs-folding-bike
