EVF Cons. In low light, the EVF of NEX-6 will have alot of dancing maroon pixels.. abit like the old TV without tuning, u see dancing noises which maybe hard to focus. Can see alot of this when trying to shoot the night sky, focusing infintiy and setting 40 seconds exposure time.
EVF on a body?? No Cons as far as i am concerned!! Even the Panasonic GX-7 EVF can tilt up. We also have some Sony FDA-EV1S Electronic Viewfinder, can plug to some NEX-5 models and tilt upwards too. If i had problems with a viewfinder, it was the one that is at the center, because your nose will keep rubbing the screen.
I use the EV1S on 5N and have a different experience. It does not have the "dancing noise" as 6 but you will see the white bits - noise under low light all over.. but I dont find it to be a big issue..
As for the placement.. I use Right eye to view so no issue.. also the articulate viewfinder is an asset to me. If you use very long lens on tripod, you need not have the camera at eye level.. you just adjust the EVF.. that applies if you want to shoot subject from waist level so as not to distort your portrait (half or full body). You can imagine what it is like shooting at floor level like this one..

The other issue is you will not be able to use flesh but it is not my requirement so not an issue.
