Added, and after looking closely at the pics of the back panel, I think the NFC antenna is in the battery.

Still, you can also notice a trough all around the battery cavity, which has a corresponding ridge on the back cover.

I strongly suspect this provides a small amount of water/splash resistance from the back. I wonder if they did any kind of splash resistance from the front?

Will we hit 1000 posts today? We are now at 930 posts .... only the S3 thread probably had a higher 1-day post count.

Well as pointed out by a mod, this is not a race but certainly indicates the amount of interest in a phone.

It has also taken 20,000 views, which means there are PLENTY of lurkers who may or may not be forumers as well. 20k is even higher than the HTC One and XZU.

Verizon already allows pre-orders from tomorrow....

http://androidcommunity.com/verizon-galaxy...riday-20130905/

......According to Samsung the global release of these devices would begin on September 25. Or in other words, while Verizon will have pre-orders available on September 6th, it should be at least a few weeks (if not longer) before they are actually available for purchase. Samsung also mentioned the US launch of the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear would begin “later this year.” We will make sure to keep you up to date with the latest as other carriers begin releasing details.....

nah i dont think so
look closely on the s4 active just around the battery got some rubber like circling them
but there's none on note 3

that's my conclusion

u also can notice that rubber lining are almost inplace with the one around the battery
*
This shows you something similar on the Note 3. It is not a rubber seal, but it seems to be of the same design.

Not applicable. HTC One Max and Note 3 are in the phablet category. Xiaomi 3 is 5" only.

In fact I would go so far as to say that any other phablet without a stylus is not a competitor to the Note 3.

All, I didn't say anything about waterproof capabilities. All I said was there could be some splash resistance.

Before the XZU arrived, note3 was the clear choice. Although I won't consider xzu anymore, I will see what comes in the next few weeks. As someone mentioned, the Alcatel hero can be a contender, although I'm leaning a lot to note3.

Note3 did surprise me.

Hoho exceeded 1000 posts! Omg.

Anyway my first surprise was the overall bookish design. Nicely classic.
Next up the confirmation of 3gb ram, then usb3. 4k recording was a bonus.

S800 with its expected wide dev support is also a definite plus.

The new software features are somewhat appealing.

All these questions about RAM size again....

Let me give analogy: CPU, RAM and Storage.

You are the CPU, giving instructions, performing tasks.
RAM is your table or desk space.
Storage is your drawer or cabinet.

When you perform a task, you bring it to the table top. The more stuff you work on, the more table space you use. If you multitask, you can leave some stuff on the table and work on other stuff at a different location ON the table.

If you start doing too much stuff and run out of table top space, you move some stuff to the drawer/cabinet.

So now, since we are dealing with quadcores and *hopefully* multithreaded programs, MORE RAM is ALWAYS a good thing.

And again, please don't ask about x86-64bit executables with 2GTexel polygon counts running on the ARM, since they are not binary compatible. One day they may be, or they can both run virtualized HALs or cross compile each other's binaries.

Or if Micro$$oft adopts a fully open standard like OpenCL/OpenGL and does not practice embrace, extend, extinguish.

About KNOX:

https://plus.google.com/1135173194774200524...sts/5ggu7naWtaW

CF-Auto-Root for the new SGS4 I9505 firmares (GG, H8, ...)

The new firmwares that came out today have SELinux enabled and set to restrictive. This generally made SuperSU sad.

Other nasty side effects of these ROMs include a new bootloader, a new warranty status inside said bootloader, the apparent impossibility to downgrade after having flashed the wretched bootloader, and a bad taste about Samsung in general.

I guess this all KNOX related or whatever, seeing as it was much hyped in today's unveilings and the ROMs were also released today.

It took all day but it seems like I have SuperSU (now v1.60) running properly(?) again, and I've made a new CF-Auto-Root package for it. Undoubtedly, after I get back all your reports about how it doesn't work at all or even a little, I will update the other CF-Auto-Root's, the flashable ZIP, and the Play Store sometime tomorrow. But not tonight - tonight I am le tired.

While this version should now be compatible with all sorts of Enforcing SELinux shams and other false-sense-of-security-inducing hypeware, it doesn't actually disable any system components. As such, every time you use root, you'll get a nice popup about how your system has been compromised by the nastiest of all attackers (namely, you). To get rid of this annoyance, adb shell or Terminal Emulator this command (after running su , of course):

pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid

That's about it. Oh yeah - don't run Triangle Away or Mobile ODIN on these firmwares until I've updated them, or your phone will explode. Enjoy!

===================

This is information about KNOX, the security layer in the Note 3 and the updated firmware for the S4. It was posted by Chainfire himself.

I expected this since the entire chain of executables need to be "trusted" by some method as designed for the philosophy of "Trusted Computing".

Those interested may look up the term and also read up on Palladium.

Can we disable it or even better to uninstall it.?  hmm.gif

If u observe there is an SELinux line in yr s4 settings. It is built into the rom. Cm/aosp have or are trying to bake this in too I think coz it's a linux framework.

Knox

Post by Adam Outler
https://plus.google.com/1047110401102224722...sts/FRpQGz5H3xu

This is an interesting high-level overview of Samsung's security, including Knox. I find the "authorized OSs" part interesting. Notice the s on the end of OSs. The Knox marketing manual states that it is possible to change the device keys securely, but makes no reference to how it is done. Any ideas?

1080p@60fps is very intriguing. Any possibility to make it happen on Note 2s?
*
Nope, hardware limitation I believe. Even if there were a hack I don't think you'd get optimal quality.

QUOTE(destEX @ Sep 6 2013, 03:09 PM)
i thought S4 also has KNOX, and its rooted wert.

BTW that Omate watch in kickstarter dayum nais wei, running 4.2.2 JB samo, walao samsung Gear can sau pei d
*
*it's*

BTW, the whole premise of security is "TRUST NO ONE" therefore they need some secure signing mechanism whereby every component along the chain can authenticate to each other.

So I think it will be a tough nut to crack.

S4 Knox was not in the ROM until maybe these 2 weeks.
