I'm a n00b with airbrushing... so don't really know what's the standard to compare with.

But the rm600 compressor with airtank from VA is good enough for me. Quiet enough to use at night.

With the airtank and the auto-off... the compressor only turns on once every few minutes when you're using. It seems to handle pressure up to 60+ psi pretty well.

Don't notice any pulsing.

Other than this... I can't really give much opinion abt it. I think most of the problems I'm experiencing is cos of the paint... Not enough experience to know how to mix paint properly and know what pressure setting to use.

Still lots of trial and error. smile.gif

Thanks ntc3freak. Really expensive this iwata. The aztek look more value for money. One AB can tackle all size. And the price reasonable.

I'm glad ur happy with it.As a matter of fact,VA has just increased(i think) the price for the AB and compressors. My friend called the other day and the uncle said the price has changed, and worst of all,he said come to shop first then i'll tell.About the mixing thing and pressure setting, don't worry, you're not the only one.Everyone have this problem, even the pros. It's just trial and error, like you said.I'm also glad the compressor is silent.

P/S: i wonder why this thread so quiet laugh.gif

Hmm at the moment,i think should get Sparmax. But there's a good chance i'll get it this weekend. If i do,i'll comment on it.Or u can get Olympos, which is the same with Sparmax(Olympos just rebrand Sparmax airbrush). This two should last you long enough until you want to upgrade to Iwata or anything. That doesn't mean it's not going to last though. As with all things,if u take care of it,it shouldn't fail. And furthermore,VA in Petaling Street sells spare parts for these two ABs.So there shouldn't be a problem.

And BTW,if you guys are planning to do occasional ABing, don't bother getting the more expensive ones like Iwata. It's simply not worth it.If you're doing small businesses like me,then you might wanna get Iwata. It was always my dream to own an Iwata. But i have to wait for a little longer. My 2 cents

i been using it for some times already now..and dont have a problem with it..but of cause..u really need to take care of it la..clean it every single time after you done using it..

and also its better to get a full compressor instead of the mini one..im using the mini one..and sometimes..it can spray out water when you wanna do fine lining..

How come the mini one spits water?

At VA, the two models of Sparmax compressors,
One with airtank, supposedly with moisture trap inside the tank, but can't see, can't prove...

The one without airtank, it comes with moisture trap. Should prevent water spitting, right?

If you've got a compressor with no watertrap... At Art Friend UE3, I saw them selling Badger spareparts. Including a moisture trap. I almost considered buying this moisture trap, then adding it to a big motorbike compressor to use.... tongue.gif

Hey guys,my friend and i just bought two airbrush sets 3 days ago.I was very very happy since the wait is finally over. Now waiting for my Createx to arrive from US.Atm using water colours doh.gif

I'm still quite worry about the moisture trap thingy. The uncle said the moisture trap is inside the compressor, but i'm doubtful.I'm using the one with air tank btw.And to make things worst,I don't see moisture trap listed in the parts list of the compressor.Anyone know what will happen if there is no moisture trap???

The compressor is doing fine,it on and off after a few minutes, which can be annoying at first, but gotten used to it already. The noise is very quiet, quite like a fan.And if run for long time(30-1 hour),it gets quite hot,so i put a fan directly in front of it.No problems so far.And not to worry,it has an automatic thermal-shutdown.In a case when it overheats,it automatically shuts down.

Now for the airbrush, nothing much to say. It's pretty good,i donnoe how good since this is my first AB.Mine is gravity feed,so it kinda blocks the vision a bit,but it's not a problem. The chrome plating is fabolous though,i love just looking at it.the spraying is quite predictable, the hardest part of ABing is knowing how much to thin the paint and how much PSI to use.I think that comes with experience and trial and error.Right now i'm practicing doing straight lines on a notebook for 5-6 pages a day. It's getting better and better each day.

And oh,a tip i read about.Always turn the air on first(press down on trigger) and then only pull back for paint, then slowly push forward the trigger for stopping paint, and don't turn off the air until 1-2 seconds. If u stop the paint and air simultaneously, the next time u press the air,it'll splat some paint which might ruin your otherwise excellent work.Good luck guys.

Did u get it from VA? If you bought ur set from VA i guess we own the same compressor lah! biggrin.gif Well the uncle there said the same thing to me about the moisture trap thingy. I was a little doubtful about that as well. Since the compressor does not has a moisture trap in it, all the compressed water goes into the tank and later if you open the valve at the bottom of the tank, you will see water coming out.

I was freaked out by this because i thought that this will eventually rust the tank inside out so to be safe, i bought a moisture trap and install it myself. The moisture trap is around rm65++ if i am not mistaken.

@ eehtsitna, where did you buy the moisture trap???Yeah, when open the valve at the bottom, can feel a bit watery but very chilly laugh.gif any difference when u install the moisture trap and before you install???Does it come with pressure regulator??

@jy14,VA stands for Venus Art,it's in Petaling Street.Quite hard to instruct you to go.All i know is from the Pasar Seni LRT station, walk straight when u see the petaling street 'roof'(blue in colour),turn right in the junction then walk straight when u see the VA sign at the top of the shop. It's yellow in colour.Hope that helps

Sorry for the late reply guys! tongue.gif Too bad i do not know the exact location of the shop that sells the moisture trap. A friend of mine help me to get it. If you are interested to get one, I can ask get the address from my friend.

And regarding the moisture trap. No it does not include a pressure regulator. Infact you do not need one since the one already install on the compressor is more than enough. And there are not any silica gel too. tongue.gif The moisture trap works exactly like the name. It has a chamber that traps water in it. If you know how to handle a spanner you will have no problem installing the trap. biggrin.gif

Hope this help.

Ps: I will try to post a pic of the moisture trap once i found it in my pc.
