I want to get the Vostro 5470. Anyone knows where to get it besides online from Dell? Looking at the lowyat pricelists, doesn't seem like anyone currently carries this Dell model....

There is a shop name Bright Start at Ground Floor Plaza Low Yat. The shop is a Dell exclusive store. You may find the new Vostro there.

I'm saying this based on my experience looking for an Inspiron 14R model last 2 weeks and all the stores/shops I asked doesn't have the model in their shop (need to order) except for the Bright Star store.

Just to report, i got 9 hours and 8mins web browsing time on power saver settings after SSD upgrade. i wonder how much more power would be saved with increased ram and a top of the line samsung pro/evo ssd.

ram is ddr3l 1.35v.
mPCIe port does support HDD caching. will confirm again if it can be used as primary boot.

more RAM will NOT save more power tongue.gif
What SSD are you using now? Typically the difference between SSD models on power drawn are rather insignificant for user to notice much hmm.gif

im using sandisk ultra plus, its rather low power. not as low as the samsungs tho. Before upgrading i got around 8h 30mins on power saving.
ya ram may not increase battery but i use more than 4gb ram normally so pagefile is being used no stop hence my hdd is normally active and writing. So another 4gb may help tremendously as i remove pagefile from my ssd all together and still avoid my pc to crash.

im always syncing data to the cloud and chrome(15-20tabs) with compiler running.. so.. it does use alot of ram for me.. and hopefully reduce the disk access times.

even if ram will suck back the power down to 8h, i dont mind as long as the pc doesnt crash smile.gif

Hi, i swapped my HDD for an SSD. The problem with the mPCIe slot right now is that acer support malaysia has no idea whether it will support sata or not. Anyone feeling rich to donate a mSATA ssd?? rclxms.gif

my guess is that it will support mSATA(i have seen other V5 series supporting it) but will the BIOS support it? and will the recovery installer support reformatting it with windows. maybe its possible to initialise it GPT via disk management first. Who knows, would love to try it out.

On my upgrade list is an 8gb ddr3l ram and mSATA SSD or wifi-AC mPCIE card. smile.gif
im sure sooner or later ill buy a mSATA ssd. just that it may be quite a long while from now smile.gif

as for how to prepare your pc to swap to SSD is pretty simple:

1. Get a usb storage device(usb flash drive, external hdd) that has more than 16GB of space and plug it in.
-note: this process will later remove everything on the device. so back it up if theres anything important

2. run "Acer Recovery Management" . Click "Create Factory Default Backup". Choose the correct drive and follow the simple instructions.
-note: after finishing the backup, you can choose to remove the "backup" partition in the stock HDD which will give extra space. Bout 16gb worth of space.

3. Turn off the lappy, unscrew all 17 screws underneath, and gently lift/pry it off.

4. carefully remove the HDD and swap in the SSD and put everything back together.
-note: there is a contact detection on the screws, so if u dont screw back the middle two screws, your pc wont power up.

5. plug in your recover device(if its not plugged in already). and turn on the lappy. It should boot directly to your recovery device.
-note: if not, go into bios(press F2 during "acer" logo) and disable "secure boot" under "boot" section. you may need to setup a bios password to be able to change it.

6. a blue screen with few options should appear, just choose your language, "troubleshoot" , and choose reset your PC.
-note: it is totally up to you to "repartition" the drive or not. I highly recommend a repartition and a full clean even tho it takes longer.

6a. Take a nap, have dinner, play with a cat.

7. when the freakishly long "Reset" finishes, it will restart your laptop. Then u may remove your recovery drive.
note: if you dont remove, it will go into recovery again, if that happens, just remove and restart your PC.

ps, i use "Pc" and "lappy" interchangeably hehe..

Hey guys,

Can we find this V5 15' version in Malaysia?

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&es....53371865,d.bmk

I really like that ._.

Besides the screen size, is everything else the same? The maintenance cover, the four speakers, the twin fans?

I dont think you can get the same specs as in the link you gave. Acer has variety of specs which differ from country to country.

For Malaysia, the V5-573 is this one:

V5-573PG-74504G50r, i5-4500U + Nvidia GT750M + (1366x768; touch)@RM2899, 4GB, 500GB, W8. The color is only Red, and its a HD screen only :/

But, you may buy this one, which has a mSATA and IPS screen, but at a higher price:

V7-582PG-74508G52k, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)@RM3399[2.2kg], 8GB, W8

The price is RRP. Usually, reseller would sell it at a lower price. biggrin.gif

Only RED sad.gif That sucks... But these two are overbudget, that one I linked has a really nice black color lah, I like it.

Anyway, I went to Thundermatch to test out the V5 today.

Pretty nice speakers, they're quite loud, but couldn't hear clearly cause the sales attendant don't wanna remove the plastic cover sweat.gif Four speakers really awesome I guess, but is the twin fans confirmed; can anyone confirm this for me? The sales attendant what also don't know sad.gif

The display quite sad cry.gif Viewing angles are so limited, sides ok ok a bit, but from top or bottom, totally goner. Normal LED display, but the brochure keep mentioning IPS, sigh.

Other than that, the specs and ease of self-replacing the parts (cause easy to remove maintenance cover) is really attractive biggrin.gif

There are many resellers in LYN Garage Sales. And if you happen to be in Seremban, you may buy from this thread starter, mfitri77. smile.gif

I bought my v5-473 at lowyat for a dealer price laugh.gif

Yup, the red colour is not interesting to my eyes tongue.gif Usually resellers would sell it at a lower price, try to bargain. I saw one reseller sell the v5-573pg at RM2680 brows.gif

For me, HD screen is enough for my usage. Some more I always dim the display, so an IPS is, to me, is a waste of money tongue.gif

The fans, I'm not sure. But I believe if you saw two vents at the back, then there should be two fans lorh. *purely my guessing only. Acer's website has an internal error, they no longer shows the v5 variants...perhaps a new model coming? hehehe. brows.gif

Bought V5-473PG today with Plextor M5S 128GB and 4gb of ram upgrade.

Comments:

1) Build Quality - Excellent (8/10)
2) Sound - Loud and Clear (9/10)
3) Screen Quality ( 6/10)
4) Touch Pad (8/10)
5) Boot up time in 4 sec (10/10)
6) Keyboard (7/20) Need some time to get used to it

Overall I'm quite satisfy with the performance.
