For the 16th consecutive year, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular purebred dog in America, according to AKCŪ registration figures released today. The Golden Retriever held onto the number two spot and the Yorkshire Terrier made significant gains -beating the German Shepherd Dog and Beagle - to become the third most popular dog in the country.

"This may be the Year of the Dog in China , but in this country it's the 'Year of the Yorkie'," said Gail Miller, AKC spokesperson. "The Lab may still reign supreme, but the petite and often-pampered Yorkshire Terrier has taken the coveted number three spot for the first time since becoming AKC -recognized in 1885. Considering the increasing popularity of small dogs in the past decade-perhaps due to their exposure as celebrity companions - I'm not surprised to learn that this precious and portable canine may slip into the number two slot in 2006."

Yups... small dogs number1!!! Hahaha.... but kinda scary when there is a demand, more breeders do more commercial breeding.... see now, shih tzu RM500 also can get.... and there are just too many shih tzus.... quite a number ends up in adoption homes or SPCA liao...

yeah i was kinda surprised ...i heard you can get a show quality shih shih at 1k . now alaskan malamute and siberian husky are the trend and in everyone's wishlist . i flipped through the star classified and someone is selling tibetan mastiff ...i wonder how they are going to survive in a hot and damp country . poor thing doggies .

Siberian Husky is still ok in Malaysia, but Malamute?! I just can't imagine how it looks like.

Wonder if the malamute will shed excessively here unless kept in an air-con environment. My neighbour keeps their Husky totally indoors. Except for the evening walks. So too does the GR across my house. Totally indoors except for the evenings. Im waiting to get my German S. But that doggie has to be outdoors. Just can't wait to get it.....Anybody with good deals pls PM me.....

I think it will grow differently in Malaysia. The flur is not so tick and long because it is not cold here. So the growing stage maybe different. This what i thinking.

Dogs that are suppose to live in cold countries will have thinner coats. Yah, the fur won't be so furry. In our climate, all dogs will shed all year round but will go into major shedding twice a year.

GSD hehehe... how much ah? Latest I saw was RM1400 with cert. Now only see people selling german shepherd with cert and the price is RM1000 over.

Talk about shedding , it's a nightmare . Yeah but it's still best to get a GSD with cert . The poor thing Malamutes , thanks Eight Below . Tibetan Mastiff , anyone ?

Yah, I saw the ad on Tibetan Mastiff... wonder how to keep... summore it's a big breed dog. Then there is that Fila breed... another banned breed here.

Vacuum 2 times a day plus nagging from my parents plus complaints from my sister .

Fila looks like a bull-breed to me but with long and dangling down ears .. havent seen any in real before ..it reminds me of neopolitan mastiff . Tibetan Mastiff long fur ler ...somemore tick coat ..I was so tempted to call that fella and ask how he gets 'em in here and how to keep them ..where to walk them ...bring out people thought new species ler

Hahah... same lah. Now I got spaniel living indoors, everyday my parents nag.... And I gotta use those lint rollers on my bed everyday coz my dog likes to sleep with me I spoiled her hahahah....

Fila is a big fighting breed.... that's why banned here. Yah, like neopolitan mastiff.

Would you want a Tibetan Mastiff or Neopolitan Mastiff ? I also scared to take it these breeds , dont know how to train . My aunt staying in Belfast has a male Standard Poodle , apparently the standard poodle tries to control them , they claimed lah . I am a n00b I will call them tomorrow morning (for the Tibetan Mastiff ) , heh . Obviously , want to check out the price lah .

HAhah... I would like a Neopolitant mastiff... but tibetan mastiff is like bear loh heheheh.... well, some dogs when never properly trained from young will tend to think of themselves as the alpha leader and will try to control the family. That is why we must show our dominance to them. We humans, become soft liao coz dogs so cute, we let them do almost anything ahahahah....

Im looking for another GSD and am still looking. You mentioned RM1400 with cert. Is it the imported bloodline(Long Fur) or the localised GSD(Shorter fur) >? The only GSD(Import mixed local) here near my place was going for RM1900 which is very higher considered my previous 2 cost me only RM1500(RM750 each).

And now you mentioned Tibetan Mastiff and I've read that they make good guard dogs and are territorial. Could you be so kind as to feed me with some info about their availability here, price and how well they do in out climate?
