1. Any Brand Will Do,
2.  max rm3.5k
3. Gaming and Browsing mainly, i need really fast laptop to do my work.
4. 15 inch.

anyone can help me recommend?

btw, whats the main difference between the i7 MQ and U, does the perfomance differ alot?
*
What kind of "work" are you performing? smile.gif
Quad core is necessary if your apps churns large set of data continuously and your apps support it.
Otherwise how "fast" a normal laptop could go is actually bottlenecked by the slooooow HDD tongue.gif Swap out the HDD for SSD (128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600) for major improvement.

Turns out this model is no longer available. They replaced it with GT720 , both i5 and i3
Gt720 no good right?

The thing about models that are getting refreshed - you may need to do some leg work to find them if you really want them.
Some re-sellers don't stock inventories (actually a good idea from their perspective).
Some re-sellers has old stocks biggrin.gif
For example, Z480 was not supplied by Lenovo for > 4 months. The other day one LYNer asked about blue colour laptop for tight budget. Yesterday, I saw one blue Z480 right at a shop lot in Kepong Aeon Big (as I did my grocery shopping), selling cheap smile.gif

Anyway, GT720M, as arc x mentioned, perform similar like GT630M / GT635M.
But G400s is slimmer, so make sure you has good external cooling when you game smile.gif

Hi I'm looking for a lightweight and slim laptop as I travel a lot. Just for basic office, watch movie that's all, biggrin.gif

1. Any Brand
2.  Within RM2k range
3. Just basic usage light word editiing, watch movie
4. 14 inch

*If possible with DOS lor xD,without GPU also ok since for lightweight usage or not most important is the weight. biggrin.gif
I think the most suitable one for me is this
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + HD 4000@RM1,549[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell

That Vostro 5460 fit you to a tee tongue.gif
Slap in a SSD (128G ~ RM300) to replace the HDD for a really satisfying user experience thumbup.gif

By the way, what is your personal opinion on macbook air?

MacBookAir 13", i5-4250U + Intel HD5000 + 256GB SSD + (1440x900)@RM3899[1.35kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

Good stuff. If you want best battery running time, this is the ONE right now.
Haswell, spec with HD5000 (best IGPU for ultrabook without discrete GPU). The SSD also is the fastest in the market right now (proprietary but very similar to m.2 port)
Within your budget.
As I mentioned, if you need win OS, just run bootcamp (it is fully supported by Apple).

Yes, come back in 3 months (around October). W8.1 will be out for a month by then. Haswell production will be in full swing, brands will push out all models to position for western holidays season.
And we will have ample time to know how good the other brands are packaging Haswell. Choices galore thumbup.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Any Except MSI & apple
2. Budget: <2.3K Max 2.5k
3. Usage: U Assignment, video steaming, pc game (three kingdom), entertainment, music
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14"/15"

Before that i had survey a toshiba U940 ultrabook - RM 2349
is that spec worth for the value?
But toshiba offer 3 years..
Or have any others suggestion within the budget i mention above?

Satellite U940-1001X, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA + 640GB HDD)@RM2349[1.7kg], 4GB, W8SL, backlit keyboard, 3 years local warranty (1st year on-site); color: Light blue
The short answer is this U940 can handle your usage requirement. And the 3 years warranty is really something worth to keep in mind. Normally, 1 year of warranty cost ~ RM150.

Btw, for your budget, you probably couldn't get good and new MSI / Apple tongue.gif

1. Preferred Brand : except Sony, hp
2. Budget : 2.5-3k
3. Usage : gaming, web surfing, some numerical computation
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14-15 inch

how is the ultrabook cpu performance when it comes to cpu intensive task?
thanks smile.gif

Ultrabook normally use ULV/T/X CPU, which is duo core. If your application need to and can make use of quad core, then obviously duo core will under perform.
It does not mean that duo core is slouch though smile.gif

When you say "numerical" computation, do you mean simple Excel stuff (don't need quad core lah tongue.gif) , or behemoth data set in Mathlab/Mathematica/SPSS/R/Maple that kind of things (quad core help in really big data set)?

If you need to punch in lots of numbers (instead of only need to manipulate data in organised format), then better go with 15" with dedicated numpad.

Very good budget.
If it is for "work", can consider those business class laptop already.
Some of these models has 4 RAM slots, so you could go 4x8G (32GB) RAM if you are so inclined to run your VM laugh.gif (edit: sorry, sorry, 4 RAM slots normally only in 15" model, 14" only 2 RAM slots so you could go 2x8=16GB)

Guys, what's the recommended laptop ranging from RM2000-2500 ?

Usage is to watch drama, good battery life, very light gaming, microsoft office docs, maybe some light programming.

Do not need touch screen as I feel it's not applicable now. Just make sure it's stable and has good reviews would be fine. Thanks!
*
You don't need good GPU, but the relatively good spec in this price segment somehow come with medium level discrete GPU tongue.gif

Acer
V5-473PG-54204G50, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M +(1366x768;touch)@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB,W8 *no OD

Use your remaining budget to extend warranty (Dell, 3 years ~ RM300), swap out HDD with SSD (128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600).

What about HP and Lenovo? Any upgrade option to i7?

Sorry.. forgot to mention processor earlier..

All of these models are customisable. Talk to the resellers to find out more smile.gif
Buying business class laptop, prepare to do some leg work if you want to get the best deal tongue.gif (Some re-sellers may spec up a bunch of machines for a big clients but could not deploy all (for various reasons), and have plenty of left over stocks, and as a result you may be able to get some crazy deals laugh.gif)
On the other hand, re-sellers that normally cater for retail clients will not have much stocks.
So, just ask every re-sellers you come across laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Any
2. Budget: Max RM 3.5k
3. Usage: Purposely to play Final Fantasy XIV online, video editing, programming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Maximum 15"

Hope the laptop still can play FFXIV smoothly when it release new expansions. Heard the requirement is about same with crysis 3 but i never play other pc games before other than Final fantasy 11.

Initially my budget is around RM2.2K only because I might buy another desktop to play FFXIV after no need to travel around after 1-2 years, so feel guilty to keep increasing budget when found that other gpu might better. Still hope can control the budget around RM2.2k-3k

Laptops listed at below which one have the best price/performance(CPU+GPU) ratio or there is better choice?
MSI GT60-0ND     i5-3230M,  4GB RAM, GTX675MX 2GB, 750GB HDD, 9Cell battery RM3399
MSI GE60-20C-068 i7-4700MQ, 8GB RAM, GT750M 2GB,   750GB HDD      RM3539
MSI GE60-20C-093 i5-4200MQ, 8GB RAM, GT750M 2BG,   750BG HDD,             RM3099

Lenovo Y510p i7-4700MQ, 8GB RAM, GT750M, 1TB   HDD RM3099
Lenovo Y400  i7-3630QM, 4GB RAM, GT750M, 500GB HDD RM2499

I read that CPU is not that important for gaming but newer version of antivirus program always make computer run slow and slower, so should i still consider the ability of CPU as well?

Thank you very much for your help and advise

Nobody really know how FFXIV relaunch will play since it is not release yet hmm.gif But there is a benchmark test downloadable from FFXIV site, iinm.
Suppose it is really Crysis (you mean Crysis 3 right?) level of system requirement, then your budget is really limited.
Gaming laptop is expensive compare to desktop.

Statement such as "CPU is not important for gaming" is not exactly true. Gaming need GPU first and foremost. But pushing thing s up to certain level, CPU is also needed as well. The thing is what is that "certain level"?
If someone is idiotic to pair a i5 ULV with GTX780M, then he will scream "how come my GTX780M perform so badly?" laugh.gif (hopefully nobody is that idiotic).

For your budget, you need to get as good a GPU you can afford, couple with a reasonable CPU.

Also, keep in mind in what resolution and how much details you want to play FFXIV relaunch.
Take Crysis 3 as an example. Play it in HD (1366x768) high details, you can make do with GTX765M.
Play in in FHD (1920x1080) ultra, GTX780M will crawl.

Since SLI is supported in FFXIV relaunch, your best bet in FHD is this:
Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3999[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, GN37 exGPU & ODD, 120w+170w psu, 2 yrs

For single GPU solution for FHD play:
www.illegear.com
Illegear RE-15, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080;matte)@RM3599[Onkyo], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-4700MQ - i7-4900MQ][/color]
GE60-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4299,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard

if you want to stick to RM2.2k, then:
Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1999 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 6 cell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
