I'm planning to go to Nagoya during sakura season next year. My gf lives there and it'll be our first meeting. I've been searching for a flight to take and there's only two options I could find which is AA and Singapore Airlines. My gf works at the Chubu Centrair Airport (Nagoya) and I thought it's best to take a direct flight. Is there any Lyn members familiar with that place? I was thinking to take AA but then again I dislike seat with a small space like those domestic flights for a long journey. AA offers premium seat but I don't know how big the space is or how comfortable the seat is. I'd like to get a comfortable seats as I will be travelling alone, daydreaming before reaching there. laugh.gif Would be reaaaaally helpful if any seat sifu in here can give me some guide/help/knowledge. laugh.gif

Took SQ to Centrair back in 2010, very comfortable flight.
if you are subscriber of CX special, they currently have promotion to Nagoya at rm1500, transit in HK. Not that bad at all.
hope it helps.

Thoughts? I am not gonna keep a strict timetable to follow so we can be flexible and go with the flow. Am planning to stop at random train stations and just explore for the hell of it haha

FYI its a couple trip, and we staying very very close to kabukicho, shinjuku. 10 mins walk apparently

Also, we both opted to not go to Disney. Not interested lol.

I can vouch for how comfortable the AA premium seats are; if you can afford it and am willing to pay for it- go for it.

I was given a comforter and not the blanket you see in this pic, to use on the flight.

Good service from flight attendants as well.

Hey guys, thanks for the opinion and help! laugh.gif I think the AA premium flat bed is a good choice for me. Another thing, which one is the best/good place to exchange the currency? Is it the local bank/money changer at shopping complex or at the airport? Sometimes I'd do some surveys on it, but would really appreciate it if you guys could give me some tips. laugh.gif

Sensoji Temple & Nakamise, Asakusa (淺草)

Another great place to visit in Tokyo would be the famous Sensoji Temple right in Asakusa. Apart from its historical value, this is also the best place to shop for souvenirs as well as food. The place is also very accessible as it's only a 5 minute walk away from the subway. I returned to this place TWICE (yes that's how much I like it here), however the duration for each time was relatively short and there are many more places that I did not cover. Asakusa is a relatively huge place with much left to be desired (especially that Asahi tower....)

Due to limited time, I did most of the touristy stuff by taking random pictures of the ancient temple but did little in terms of exploring the whole building. Instead I spent most of my time trying to scout for things to buy as well as good food!

In terms of pricing, you can expect most of the shops sharing the same price for the same items that are on sale. Kinda regret didn't buying more stuffs from here though. It's one of the cheapest place to buy stuff. And the one with the most variety as well. I got a load of post cards and some key chains from here at affordable prices. But expect prices ranging from ¥300 onwards.

Apart from souvenirs, the food here is also pretty nice! The ones that I tried are illustrated in the pictures below, but there are some which I did not grab a picture such the green tea shaved ice and other desserts.

Asakusa Rusk. One of the best! I really liked the Original and Tomato flavour. Spent ¥2890 at this shop =3

This shop is nearby the Kaminarimon (outer gate of the Sensoji temple) which sells really delicious fried minced pork ¥150. A must try!

guys, i planning a budget trip of 7 persons to nagoya(3 days) and osaka(3 days) late october next year.
so i got a few questions:

a)is it super difficult for us to travel around cos noone in my group understand japanese?

b)must not miss tourist spots/festivals in nagoya and osaka? currently planned to visit (nagoya-nagoya castle, science museum, nagoya port, pokemon center nagoya!) (osaka-universal studio, osaka aquarium, osaka castle, minoo park)

c)suitable websites to book hotel stay? or direct book rooms from hotel's website?

d)normally the room rate there based on pax or room?

e)correct me if im wrong, the spots i mentions are nearby JR train station right?if i use JR pass is enough to cover most of my traveling right?

But haze an annual occurrence over the South Korea / Japan region? I have heard of the haze problem in China but didnt realize it carries over to SK/Japan.

I've not considered this before and am planning another trip to Japan/South Korea, so any information would be appreciated.

I dont speak any Japanese and it was fine for me to travel in Japan.

However, I printed travel phrases to bring along. If you have a smartphone that will work in Japan, there's translation apps.

Younger Japanese have a reasonable grasp of English; their accent is different to ours and I'm sure our accent is hard for them to understand too. Just being polite and patient helps a lot.

Those who didnt understand English or were shy to speak it - just whipped out their smartphones and we had "translation app" conversations rclxms.gif

If you need information/directions at train/bus stations, always ask the staff who will have the correct information. Bystanders or passer-bys may sincerely wish to help you but they may not have the correct information.

But be careful, not everyone in a uniform works at the train station. On my way back to Osaka from Sapporo and I was being lazy - didnt want to look at signboards and just wanted someone to guide / direct me.

I spotted a guy in a blue uniform on the platform and I asked him the directions to the shinkansen platform. He said sorry, he didnt know - I thought he didnt understand me so I asked again. Same reply. Asked again.

He was a pilot traveling on the same train. rolleyes.gif
