Hey guys just popping in to say hi after reading the whole thread. Very informative! Many thanks to the regs here!

I will be in tokyo for 7d 6n from dec 17th. Just booked last week. Now me and wife just reading everything we can lay our hands on online, and we bought a travel japan book from lonely planet. We do have a real rough itinerary atm which I won't post yet until we get the details down

I however do have one question, as we are arriving in haneda at 10.30 PM, is it possible to rush through to catch the last train leaving the airport, and switch at deimon to shinjuku?

Or do we just chill and pay a bit more for the midnight buses? Rush and take the bus before midnight to avoid the surcharge? We have determined which buses/train to take its just the time concern.

Hmm thanks for the clarification guys. Just need to know if doable only, I'm pretty sure I've seen photo guides on how to go to the train station somewhere, I'll go look again.

Aiya at most take the midnight bus lor, but if can save why not haha.

Though is it possible to get stranded in the transfer station to shinjuku?

Decided to forego disney for a ryokan stay at hanode haha. Me and wife decided we would much prefer a Japanese experience rather than a theme park.

Reason? Most onsens do not allow tattoos. Is this correct? Only if we go to a hotel onsen or private ones that they don't care, else we have the risk of denied entry?

Most of Onsen // Bathhouse in City area full of Yakuza.

Those Onsen tourist attraction area will be Yakuza free
Such as Gifu Gero Onsen
*
Soooooo, safe to say I won't really get denied entry to private onsens? If I go to a public one I'll most likely get denied?

But tbh I might not try the city onsens as I figured the ones at hakone are better ie quieter/peaceful environment which is what I'm after.

However if I do try the ones in tokyo do I just go for private ones?

All Public Onsen are Private owner.  Even the Hotel Onsen also open for all even you not the guest stay inside.  As long you willing to pay higher price.
Tokyo one s those Onsen are call bathhouse.  Usually pack with people and might saw some Yakuza.

Tokyo Bathhouse got 2 types.  One types is fully naked.  Another types you can wear swimming suit

The Real Public Onsen are on north side of Japan,  Natural own by NO one- Not even Japan government.    NO need to pay any fees
*
Woo thanks man! So I guess having tats aren't an issue?

If that's the case I will really consider a ryokan stay. Quite weird if go to packed bath house and everyone naked lol

Ryokan Onsen at Hakone require fully Naked.  During bath time you might encounter another guest person.  Basically onsen will be sharing with others male.
*
A non issue tongue.gif. Though the ryokan I'm targetting allocates 30 min sessions per room. ThEy have 15 rooms. Is that a good ryokan to go to? The outdoor hot spring is an extra charge of 550 yen per 30mins

Most reviews all say its a great place but I'm not so happy about not having the luxury of going to the baths anytime I want

Ryokan bath time , Breakfast time and Dinner time are set.  U miss the time u miss the stuff

They have the option of not providing meals which I'm thinking of taking so i can explore the town a bit. So meaning to say I cant use the bath when its ie dinner time and I mot taking their dinner?

Those breakfast and Dinner already cover in your room price.  That why Ryokan 1 night stay are more expensive than Hotel room.  you miss it is your rugi only.

Oh ya....Ryokan will be light out at 10pm Japan time.  mean no more facility usage / wifi.  10pm sleep time

This Standard Ryokan has Japanese-style guest rooms, and none of the guest rooms have private baths and toilets. There are indoor hot spring baths for both women and men (same gender only), and they are open 24 hours a day.

I'm not taking a traditional ryokan. Standard one only. The cheapest option ryokan haha

"Persons with tattoos are asked to refrain from using the facilities." Hahaha, means yakuza not allowed

Probably lol. But it says u can use swimming trunks so means it's a public one. Dunno still quite unclear

Hey guys, a question about yunessun, hakone.

Since its a mixed public Bath amusement park thing, possible for me to wear a shirt when I'm inside to hide my tats?

Also, how is it? Anyone been there? Looks abit touristy but I figured that is the safest choice for me not being kicked out lol

I would much rather take a separate trip to Tokyo for another time than to just spend one day at akihabara. The flight isn't all that expensive and lots more to see than just akihabara.

I'm going Tokyo in 2 weeks time. Will plan for osaka/kyoto fire next trip whenever that may be

Thoughts? I am not gonna keep a strict timetable to follow so we can be flexible and go with the flow. Am planning to stop at random train stations and just explore for the hell of it haha

FYI its a couple trip, and we staying very very close to kabukicho, shinjuku. 10 mins walk apparently

Also, we both opted to not go to Disney. Not interested lol.

For me, I know every inch on Haneda Airport.  25 Minute I can reach Monorail Station // Keikyu Station
*
So did I. WasNt very hard. Just research on where to go after you clear customs as there are two trains heading to different stations.

Do everything you can to clear customs early. Take airplane seats close to the exit in front of the plane and walk as fast as you can to the passport clearance counter. We did this and cleared customs within half an hour.

Was in the train 5 to 10 mins later. We took the jr line to shinjuku as it was nearer compared to the metro. Right side entrance at the airport

Tbh, I was kinda annoyed too, but I understand where he's coming from. Most of the questions asked can be found by simply googling.

The health and fitness section is filled with repeat and newbie questions. After a while I stopped answering as well. If you could Google why should I take the effort to answer?

I was thinking the same thing

winter jacket + t shirt + some fancy wool/heat tech uniqlo (buying there because cheaper)

and jeans
*
Yeah. Probably the way to go. Any brand from japan that is available here 100% is cheaper there. Bought a bunch of heat tech for myself

Buy the long sleeved ones coupled with a long sleeve tshirt more than enough for any situation

But no matter how warm you wear if you stay out doors for more than a few hours you will be cold eventually

Just wondering Uniqlo longjohn (btm and top Rm120+) is cheaper compare to universal traveller (RM188 a set) and winter time (RM188 a set).. Isnt uniqlo longjohn less warmer compare to both?
*
Don't know bro. All I know is uniqlo heat tech was good enough for me and it was selling at around 1k yen there. Which equates to around 30?
