bro, usually do asus let us purchase g551 w/o hdd, free dos & 8gb ram one slot or i bring my own ssd/hdd or ram for them to install for us?
Upgrade can be done later. They don't do Free DOS nor offer custom internal barebone like Sager.QUOTE(ngkhanmein @ Oct 23 2014, 08:23 PM)
bro g551 only one fan. do i need to wait dec or just buy now? i getting ssd 256gb & 2x8gb ram so total will cost around 4k. if this case get desktop seem better. really confuse now.
Then Get a desktop, i'm done with desktop as the high power consumption and gaming on the go factor.QUOTE(jasonsuna1 @ Oct 24 2014, 11:06 AM)
Yup yup.. correct, if you found honest sellers, go for it.
If there were 2 fans for 15", there will be no optical drive.
Slim factor will usually sacrifice the ODD, unless they can design it to provide best cooling and at the same time provide all the vital ports including USB 3.0 as well as e-sata and DP.If there were 2 fans for 15", there will be no optical drive.

the official rog g551 upgrade guide, http://rog.asus.com/376092014/g-series-gam...-upgrade-guide/
(now you can replace the wifi card
)
from the pictures found online for g551, it's better to check the msata slot if you wanna add msata ssd later (maybe this requires a full teardown, maybe not). it looks like g551 only fits for a half-size instead of the common full-size msata ssd. (and that's kind of rare, and the ssd size is limited due to that form factor)
the official g751 upgrade guide, http://rog.asus.com/375732014/g-series-gam...-upgrade-guide/
for g751, the battery is now non-removable. the good news is, it's free from optimus. all of the variants. imo that's the right choice, because gamers don't care about battery life, they just plug and play.
it's a smart way to house the pcie ssd. (looks cheap but effective) apparently they are aware of the overheating issue of m.2 pci-e ssd, and turn the m.2 caddy into heat-spreading heatink (with two thermal pads).
however you need to carefully plan your purchase, if you don't wanna disassemble these machines. (e.g. m.2 caddy will not be available officially if you don't get the variant with m.2 ssd; if you wanna have 32gb ram in future, get the model with 2x8gb ram)
But the design from G550 to G551 changed a bit. (now you can replace the wifi card
