Fast moving thread meaning there are lots of people talking about the boards but if all the talking about come from a few forumers then it doesn't really say anything about our market gaining popularity in mechanical keyboards. We've gotta figure out how to increase popularity.

Is there a local mechanical keyboard club? If not, I'd be happy to create one (but administered by others). We can setup local TT and perhaps educate and invite the public to learn and try out the keyboards.

The box contained with the keyboard and the USB cable and a keypuller. The box very long lol

Built quality very good, namely the board frame, height extension stand and the keycaps (eventhough the keys surface more rough compared to KBC's) . The brown keys feel softer and more comfortable than Filco and Ducky one.

If you insist on cheap, then I suggest you to go for brands like Keycool and some random China gaming brands.

Keycool is the more recommended one.

Their keyboard ranged from cheapest 300RMB (roughly RM160 b4 ship) to around 500RMB. Anything more than that, you might as well opt for locally available choices such as Rosewill or Quick Fire Rapid.

Keycool is really cheap but the quality is abit at the lower side. But with the price, not much can be complaint.

Not sure bout their latest quality.

But for their 1st Keycool (which I bought 2 years ago?), the built quality is really solid and nice enough (in fact the board still looks perfectly fine today). Just that they failed at small details part such as gaps problem.

Since then, heard that they fixed the gaps problem already, and almost in every reviews of their newer keyboards, the reviewers purposely stressed that they can't find gaps problem on it anymore, at least not easily noticeable or significant.

In other words, Keycool is among the god in China's low and mid tier keyboard market. If not because the gaps problem, it can really be a perfect choice.

Guys, anyone who has a Filco and is looking for a plate so it could be switch mod-able without the need to desoldering? Currently there's a round 2 for it. 35$ shipped if I'm not wrong. This round, it will be Stainless Steel instead of Aluminium. If you want one, better grab it now, otherwise the leftovers will be sold at mark up price.

It's not my groupbuy, just sharing it to other Filco owners, just in case anyone wants to grab one and don't need to have headache trying to get a plate.

LINK - http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=36907....9;boardseen#new

The said Stainless Steel plate works for the keyboards below, which means you can mod all the keyboards below, all you need is soldering tools, or get someone to do it for you, bro kaiserreich does the service -

Filco TKL
CM Quickfire Rapid
Leopold FC200R
Ducky Year of the Dragon
HPE 87
Key Cool 87
PLU 87
KBT oni
Noppoo Choc Mid
Phantom custom
Filco/Rosewill 104 (maybe)

Key cool qc problem very famous. International pricing also not very good. That's why we never ever brought it in. When the rosewill tkl comes in even keycool taobao pricing will have problems lol
*
Will see how it goes for Rosewill TKL but it should be cheaper than the usual TKL in the market with LED?

Guys, anyone who has a Filco and is looking for a plate so it could be switch mod-able without the need to desoldering? Currently there's a round 2 for it. 35$ shipped if I'm not wrong. This round, it will be Stainless Steel instead of Aluminium. If you want one, better grab it now, otherwise the leftovers will be sold at mark up price.

It's not my groupbuy, just sharing it to other Filco owners, just in case anyone wants to grab one and don't need to have headache trying to get a plate.

The said Stainless Steel plate works for the keyboards below, which means you can mod all the keyboards below, all you need is soldering tools, or get someone to do it for you, bro kaiserreich does the service  -

9087 is about the same as a yotd, so i think should fit. i have never opened up the YOTD before, but 9087 should be fine.

Nothing new, Chinadidthis.gif

Those boards being available locally since last year.

Basically just another rebranding the Rapoo V7.

Owai, mah bad. Now they actually cheapen their Hornet line of products with clone switches too? shakehead.gif

Previously they only done it on the Rapoo V7 rebrand,

Guys,

I've fallen in love with mechanical keyboards, the moment my i tested my friend's blackwidow .

I did some research and only cherry BLUEs produce that satisfying clicky sound.

Any recommendations for a budget keyboard with backlit + Cherry blue's?

Looking at Ducky's and the Blackwidow, would like to hear some thoughts from u guys , the more experienced users laugh.gif

If you want TKL, can go CM QFR with blue switches. There are people who are selling BW Tournament, that's also a TKL, blue switches also. Both are at RM250 i think.

it will definite sell even better.

But quality wise, if you don't count the pbt keycaps and the additional keycaps, ducky is still better eh ?
Maybe I'll get it from taobao.
Since it's cheaper than what heavyarm is selling for right ? laugh.gif

Quality wise, take shine2, it has better built quality over poker2.
Ah, poker2 stabs are too damn rough to begin with. I am really not used to it now.
Anyway it is meant for mod kao kao, do anything you like.

There are better choices in terms of quality and price (ask the hardcore sifus around here for suggestions)
For myself, the K70 fits my needs aesthetically and in quality and function thus is my board of choice biggrin.gif

P.S. Some ppl buy mech keyboard for modding/changing keycaps.. I bought mine to use without any modding.

You will have a tough life finding replacement for modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Window, Menu) and spacebar. Apart from that, it is pretty much easy.

keypress feels kinda weird, it is linear, and too soft/light for a mechanical switch

Dey are using a clone switch, with a really soft spring (even softer than red IINM).

BTW, RM215 is seriously cekik darah price. It cost less than 300 RMB in China.

From the Linus video, I roughly can see that it isn't Cherry MX switch.

If anyone got take clearer picture, sure can debunk armagedon's claim.

6:38, you saw the Cherry logo.

But it isn't surprising since previously Hornet really do use Cherry MX.

The issue now is whether the one being demoed at Computex2013 is real Cherry MX or Kailh switch. The video a little too blur to determine.

I didn't notice the logo hmm.. i'll check with my newly arrived KB tonight.

interested in how this plays out.. Slick's video was retitled on Youtube.. the word "counterfeit" is gone which can imply it was another switch that is trying to replicate cherry MX

It is the PLUM Nano 75. Just that PLUM said that this time they sell it as Noppoo (PLUM OEM the board for Noppoo).

Everything is pretty standard (and programmable brows.gif ) + you got the function keys row normal 60% boards don't have.

Normally their board around 400-500RMB, but this time I afraid may be pricier a bit since it is really features packed + bluetooth and so on.

So the safest is to standby RM300 for it.

Hmmm, can't really say much. MX Green is like the black version of MX blue. x_x There are demands for Blacks too, just not as much as browns and blue I would say, and people who choose Red, I think they read from reviews and people suggesting Black and Red for gamings, that's why they would want Red. The mindset of "Ew black is tough, and Red is smooth. Both are for gaming, let's go for Reds."

Better convince other brands to bring in a lot of black biggrin.gif we have no interest in fulfilling this market segment at the moment. But still, customers can back order them from our dealers. Why the sudden love for Green? Between Black, Green and Clear which of them need more effort to bottom out?

I am using clear now and I find that I seldom bottom out the keys as much as when I use Red or Brown.. They typing feeling of stock clear is some what mixed feelings.. I like it generally but the space bar felt weird.... sweat.gif sweat.gif

MX GREEN solves your problem:
http://wiki.geekhack.org/index.php?title=Cherry_MX

My forecast says MX Green is the next most popular switch for non mainstream/non first time customers. Typist are going to get this or the Topre Heaven.

MX Blue will still be the most popular switch

MX Brown is going to appeal to first time customers reading reviews saying that it is the sweet spot between blue and red...after buying this...they will buy another one shortly.

MX Red is going to appeal to gamers reading a lot of reviews saying it is best for gaming. Or ninja in the office..

MX Black is going to be same as above..but for bigger build users with heavier fingers..

MX Clear switches keyboards often uses MX Grey switch as their Spacebar. It is heavier, which means, a LOT heavier than MX Clear. You can take out and see if it is MX Grey. : )

Kind of like MX Green used as spacebar for MX Blue boards, MX black for MX reds. But I'm not sure if it's still going like that these days.

Why the sudden love for Green? Between Black, Green and Clear which of them need more effort to bottom out?

I am using clear now and I find that I seldom bottom out the keys as much as when I use Red or Brown.. They typing feeling of stock clear is some what mixed feelings.. I like it generally but the space bar felt weird....  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

well, one reason you bottom out less is because of the heavier springs...

That is due to the cherry stabilizer. Space bar does not feel as linear as costar stabilizer. But much quieter operation

This may be the problem, cherry stabs sometimes feels sticky, while costar has the "ping" sounds.

Don't mod to black.. totally different thing. Try to buy a cherry MX grey from geekhack.

While you are doing that, MOD your cherry stabilizers!

Actually it is a little bit after the click. The exact actuation point is lower than the click. I would say 99% users won't even know that tongue.gif
You still do not need to press it all the way down to get it to register an input.

O-ring? for?

O-rings are to prevent the keys from hitting the bottom of the keyboard (bottoming out) and producing the loud "clack" sound that membrane keyboard users hate so much.

LOL... of course different feeling... different type of switches.... if you just migrate from membrane to mechanical, using reds will give little impact to your typing experience as the transition effect is not as huge as the transition from membrane to browns or blues or other harder tactile switches...

KBT Race is made by Vortex, so they basically the same thing.

Apart from that, Keycool and Noppoo also quite a lot keyboard in that segments. Of course, there is also Deck Legend fodat.

Thats what I am confusing. Normally what we saw is a brand accompanied by a OEM. But Vortex is like a middleman between KBT and Costar?

Vortex = a brand/company?
They made Race/Pure for KBT under the OEM of Costar?

hahhahaa.... what's been confusing you, I have asked the same question back in v11 and v10, but nobody cares or nobody actually know what Vortex is.... because KBT and KBC also manufactures their own board.... so how does Vortex come into the picture??? It is not a manufacturer since Costar makes the boards for them....
It seems that Vortex acts like an international distributor for KBT and KBC.... which I can not be sure....

Vortex's position in the mechanical keyboard world is debatable.... dunno what the company actually is... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

hahhahaa.... what's been confusing you, I have asked the same question back in v11 and v10, but nobody cares or nobody actually know what Vortex is.... because KBT and KBC also manufactures their own board.... so how does Vortex come into the picture??? It is not a manufacturer since Costar makes the boards for them....
It seems that Vortex acts like an international distributor for KBT and KBC.... which I can not be sure....

Vortex's position in the mechanical keyboard world is debatable.... dunno what the company actually is...  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
Thats why I normally just directly refer them as Costar. sweat.gif

Not sure if ducky still has this option here.
But you can pm cyntrixtech ask him about this.

Either KBT ONI / Ducky 9087 Shine 2

Or Keycool 87 LED version? That one you have to get from Taobao.com.

not really lo.. they're more durable and expensive than ABS

but ABS also got their advantage like double shot's high contrast wording.

each of their pros and cons.. just follow your finger's feeling

Can actually get a Plato 170 shear locally. Not completely sure if imitation or not though.

The situation here.. China > US > Malaysia.

Maybe you can find MKC site in taobao and ask an agent to translate? They make those acrylic casing if I'm not wrong, I don't remember if that's their original vendor.

For some reason, I can't enter their taobao store (seems like the filter/censor saga done by TM is on or what, international website being screwed from time to time).

But here is their store

Yup, MKC is the maker of
1. Most of the "metal" (zinc) silver/gold keycaps that you came across in taobao or GH
2. Arcylic case for Filco/Hpe/Plu and other compatible clone
3. Bigass SS7G style palm rest for Filco

Hmm, seems like I am wrong this time. The case is even pricier at MKC's taobao.

750 RMB is about.. RM330?

And Feng is selling for 115$ + 30-40$ shipping (DHL SUCKS. I officially hate them now.) I think it's better to buy from taobao though.

There are a few coming..

If you like Filco Ninja because of the keycaps, then you can choose any other boards you want, keycaps can be purchased at taobao, a lot more color available, PBT too. happy.gif

Incoming keyboards are

Poker 2 (I wouldn't recommend it, because I don't like the layout)
KBT Oni (You might need to wait forever for this, same as above)
And then there are ducky! happy.gif You can actually buy those CM QFR if you want to, they are budget and good quality keyboards (Same manufacturer that produces Filco), only about RM250. What switches are you looking for?

The Filco keycaps are a bonus but i just need reliable, clean looking style and quality keyboard to use. i forgot to include that im looking for 75% keyboard, still need the home, insert etc. key without having to use the Fn key. Back lighting isnt important. CM QFR looks to gamer-y to me, i prefer plain looking keyboard. blush.gif

No... last time heard cyntrix bro mentioned that Ducky said if Vortex cant keep up with the production demand, then they would offer the Ducky mini, coz the thing is almost identical to the Poker II... so I thought only either one would reach our shores... now dunno the situation since Vortex said the Poker IIs are coming next week... or so they said.... sweat.gif

Depend on material, if blank abs (and black or white color), normally below RM50 for a set.

Vortex POKER 2 = Ducky Mini

Vortex Poker 2 PBT = In production, already on sale in CN. Now fulfilling International market. I hope they ship our 2 months old order.

Vortex Poker 2 LED = No sound No air

Ducky Mini = Apparently in discussion, maybe in July

Ducky Mini Shine = No sound No air

Now this is confusing, so the ducky mini that is said to be arrived in next friday will be the "normal" ducky mini with ABS key and no LED?

For blank PBT (color?), you can opt for imsto and keycool, both from taobao.

This is the one that's coming, without the..."Enjoy Your Feeling" lettering on the keyboard. Not sure about the Poker II lettering. LED holes are on PCB afaik, you can just solder on whatever LEDs you want

Dear Damian

I feel sorry for the trouble that has caused you much inconvenience.

Due to there have been some irresistible factors that I can not control.

Actually, we are ready to ship them out, but currently the keyboards are at Chinese customs waiting for clearance. The customs clearance should occur any day now.

I will keep to track and hope there will have good news tomorrow.

Cherry red and brown shares the same spring.

Brown has a slight tactile feedback when you type.

Red is linear, straight to bottom without any bumps.

I don't think you will feel that membrane keyboard is "annoying" when you do not now about mech kb yet. tongue.gif
For me everything is the same, just that it depends on how you will use to it.

I am ok with any switches up until now.

no offense, but cherry MX Switch on mouse is really weird, since the attenuation travel is too deep inside. Prefer Omron switch for mouse, Esspecially Japan Made.

If you guys interested what omron switch i talking about, search for Omron D2F series, not D2FC, D2FC are made in China, and quality is not that good.

Giving tactiles doesn't mean that it will affect your gaming experience very much, If you prefer membrane feeling of pressing the keyboard, you can go to brown, because some users dislike the keypress without feedback. It's still up to the users.

What's ur gaming : non gaming ratio ?
If you game often I guess linear switch is better for you.

Not simply buy la, choose better brand is more important.
Then compatibility of after market key caps.

wrong perception yo... razer and steelseries are mainstream gaming peripheral brands..

Ducky is a company that specialized in making mechanical keyboards. That's why you don't see the brand so often..

just like how peeps saying Beats headphones are superior than Senns, ATs etc because they say never heard of Senns and ATs

wrong perception yo... razer and steelseries are mainstream gaming peripheral brands..

Ducky is a company that specialized in making mechanical keyboards. That's why you don't see the brand so often..

just like how peeps saying Beats headphones are superior than Senns, ATs etc because they're famous

well, if you think Razer and SS are better or you actually prefer them over ducky, rosewill, filco etc., that means their marketing and advertising is really paying off laugh.gif laugh.gif

Omron or not, microswitch is still much more suitable than keyboard MX switch to be used in mouse.

BTW, I prefer those normal long rectangular 3 legged micro mouse switch over the square one usually found in MS's mouse.

There are only two Gigabyte distributor in Malaysia but a ton of dealers. I am doubtful that a competitor would recommend our brand over their own. But hey if they did that's quite cool.

There's a bit of problem with Topre. The shipping rate is very expensive..it's USD 200 per carton (RM60 each keyboard) and USD 500 per 5 cartons (RM 30+ per keyboard). I want to keep the Type Heaven at RM 499 and not over RM 5xx. Will be working hard on getting them in to hit this price range.

Quite a unique stuff back then, probably the "1st gaming mechanical keyboard".

Now for the osmium, it just feel like "yet another BWU's brother..."

I've got my geeky eyes set on the Ducky Shine 3, due to the reactive backlighting!

Will this be a good first mech keyboard? tested the razer blackwidow ultimate, loved the 'click' , and did some research ; it's running cherry MX blues if im not wrong.

So will the Shine 3 produce the same 'click' and feel? Unfortunately there's no ducky users here in Miri sad.gif

Kyrmian from miri use previously haha.
All the mx blues are same.
Click sound may vary from materials to materials.
But most if the time mounted in plastic board is more or less the same.

Noppoo is not ordinary random china brand, they being making mkb quite long time already (they are OEM by PLUM, which dated even to an earlier time).

BTW, your under 200 with LED board is which one? AFAIK, I don't really recall having such things, except for my PLUM96 modded with LED.

even bizarre.. if any of you notice that Filco Minila's R1 (ZXC row) is slightly offset (0.25 units) to left due to the shorter left shift and cramped right section

Noppoo is not ordinary random china brand, they being making mkb quite long time already (they are OEM by PLUM, which dated even to an earlier time).

BTW, your under 200 with LED board is which one? AFAIK, I don't really recall having such things, except for my PLUM96 modded with LED.

He got light blue PBT, but dye-subbed. I think you need to special contact him to get blank one.

BTW, just FYI, PBT rarely had black color (the dark grey PBT of Vortex is among the only few I came across). Thats why they (manufacturers) normally always use POM for black, PBT for white.
If you do consider POM, then Keycool got them.

Apart from black POM, you can also opt for rainbow POM.

if u don mind to use full size keyboard..can Look at Rosewill or Filco mj 2/ninja
both oem by costa..rosewill on promote now price at RM 269..filco RM 339
rosewill doesnt come with keycap puller...but filco ninja hv keycap puller and 2 extra win keycaps side printing
rosewill using green pcb and filco is blue pcb..
rosewill with detachable USB..filco not..
both use ABS keycaps
conclusion..rosewill is best bang for buck ~
filco is top premium brand

i read quite lot review if look for Blue switch..Costa is the best ~

Razer A bit risky for a few keys problem. (Non-Clicky blue switch) my experience F9 and F10 not clicky. even the new boards F9, F10 non-clicky so I think is design problem or batch problem. haha. just sharing.

Yar, regarding desoldering LED part, I agree.

It is better to have a proper desoldering gun than using soldering iron + vacuum suck...

BTW, the one in my link got non-LED version, get it for the sake of wireless.

Desoldering LEDs needs a ton of solder, a plier and a good vacuum sucker.
I recommend the Edsyn soldapult.

I tried to look for a device like this b4 (which is a hybrid of vacuum suck with soldering tips), but no luck finding it locally
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....f&id=2456052135

Radioshack (not local one) also seems to having similar device, but instead fusing 2 device directly into one, they simply combining them at the tips
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...oductId=2062731

BTW, if the LED is not going to be salvaged for future use, I simply heat it like no tomorrow till all solder melt off it, LOL.

Add solder forming solder bridge.
Reflow the solder entirely and pull out the LED.

Use a good quality vacuum pump to suck out all the solder.
Cheap ones will just make a mess.

For Pb-Free Solder pad cleaning, recommended to get larger wattage iron.
Otherwise the pad will be a mess as well.

I just bought a Rosewill rk-9100 today from Heavy-Arm. I love it! I had a mechanical keyboard a few years ago but gave it to my brother. Boy, I wished I had gotten another one right away.

The only thing is the "Enter" button sticks, so it's very annoying when typing. I had to use the "Enter" button next to the num pad, otherwise the cursor will just drop down to the bottom of the page.

And the left directional button doesn't light up.

I'm just disappointed by Rosewill's quality. Thinking about getting the Ducky G2 Pro now.

Don't bother with Heavy Arm, just bring it back to us (distributor) and we will change a new one for you after verifying that it is indeed the keyboard that is defective. Make sure to bring your receipt. No need to blame Rosewill's QC. Rosewill OEMs them from different factories. If one gets disappointed over a brand because they got a lemon then die liao...Razer sure lots of haters, but maybe their fans overwhelms them biggrin.gif

QUOTE(panafone @ Jun 15 2013, 08:35 PM)
I just bought a Rosewill rk-9100 today from Heavy-Arm. I love it! I had a mechanical keyboard a few years ago but gave it to my brother. Boy, I wished I had gotten another one right away.

The only thing is the "Enter" button sticks, so it's very annoying when typing. I had to use the "Enter" button next to the num pad, otherwise the cursor will just drop down to the bottom of the page.

And the left directional button doesn't light up.

Love the typing experience but definitely disappointed by Rosewill's quality control. mad.gif

Yeah. It gets stuck in the depressed position when I press it (like my soul).

Cyntrix, are you open tomorrow? I'm serious about the GTX 780. Just PM me your best price.

-Heavy Arm: https://www.facebook.com/Heavyarm412

Both have full range gaming accessories ready stock. Both should sell at same price. It's up to you who you prefer to deal with! Both we SOKONG! rclxm9.gif

Actually Hellion is the nicer mouse to use. Initially I'd thought that some of the design don't make much sense like the ATTACK button because most people would rest their thumb there so you'd end up pressing it every so often. But after using it, I like it a lot better than the El Druin. El Druin is very big. It's a 4 finger mouse.

EM SRP is RM 10 more than WM. But the SRP is landed price to EM (Sabah & Sarawak)

Any RETURN/WARRANTY is buyer's responsibility - both ways

hmm... cyntrix, that means heavyarm got your leetgion range??? ada for test test???? now very interested in the el druin because im a claw grip user, and it's an ambi mouse.... but the size is kind of scaring me off.... but the palm plate is switchable, so can switch to smaller one... just scared that when i claw the mouse, my thumb and pinky (i normally claw my mouse with those 2 fingers and the back of the mouse is supported at my palm) fingers would press directly on the side dpads... doh.gif doh.gif

You can just go to either and have them open the mouse for you to test. If you want to test it, they just need to lift up the acrylic/plastic cover.

The D Pad is not that easy to depress with natural pressure. Having 6 buttons/macros controlled by a thumb is a lot easier than finding the 9 buttons on other MMORPG mouse biggrin.gif

If you don't want to go to Subang and don't need to test the products, you can get from NovusTech (Shah alam)

I totally agreed on that! the controlling using the thumb movement is much more natural... than have to move the mouse up down left right to click the buttons... sweat.gif sweat.gif

Hi guys, not sure if this is the correct place to ask.

I am using a CM Storm Trigger keyboard. I have used it for awhile now and the keycap is starting to wear out. The W key especially.

Is there any way I can get an exact replacement for it? or something really identical to it? Thank you !

Exact replacement, tough luck.

Better buy better quality PBT keycaps to replace the WASD cluster and ppl won't realise anything strange for it.

He has explained this, a few pages back, he said Ducky is afraid of customers just wanting to buy those "thick pbt keycaps" instead of the keyboard, hence he's not able to bring them in.

I might order from Taiwan, since they come in those Chinese legends. : p
