*.sub itself can be a few format. DVDSubtitle, SonicDVD Creator, Subviewer, Subviewer 2 etc. Only thing I can suggest is try to download different subtitle tool from videohelp.com & check which one is work.

That's most of the problem I notice. Chinese subtitle cannot be read in most of the program, not only with Subtitle Workshop.

my vobsub can render chinese srt sub no problem, just need to change the option to chinese (forgotten), or else will result in random codes..

and vobsub can display .sub too, just the sub appear a bit ugly.

i hv a time where i play divx movie with srt subs, vobsub will display an ugly green diagonal line, then i just uninstall it. after a while i reinstall back, the green line dissapear, dunno why...

just find a subtitle any on the sites provided
n open it with ur movie using mpc or vlc
or just rename it using the same name as ur movie title n open with wmp(but this need vobsub installed, if u dont want to find any trouble just dl klite mega codec pack, it's bundled there)

bertz,

Thanx for the sample. I manage to convert the sample using Avidemux 2.3.0.

This how I do it.
  1. Download avidemux. Unzip it to it's own folder
  2. Launch the main program
  3. Go to Tools > OCR
  4. Focus on "Files". Click open & browse to *.idx file (*.idx & *.sub MUST be in the same location)
  5. Click "Save". Make sure the file include the extension. Eg: "subtitle.srt"
  6. Click "start OCR"

You'll see the subtitle. Just enter the character correspond to the "bitmap" and press enter. What you doing is "teaching" the software to understand the character. You're teaching the software to "read" from bitmap & save it as text.

Depend how many lines, you'll take some time to do that.

The most common way to convert .idx+.sub (vobsub) to .srt is using SubRip.
for .sub(text type), just use Media Player Classic's save subtitle feature(the best),although SubRip can also convert but is buggy
