Clarification, mkv is not a video format, its just a container that containes the video stream and audio stream

If you wanna add audio, just take 2 audios and mux it into MKV, no need to encode, just remux

In layman terms, any subtitles that comes externally or embedded and can be removed are softsubs.(MKV for an example)

wont it take forever 2 paste the subtitle? i tried using virtual dub b4 it took me hours den i gave up...anyone have recommendations on which prog 2 make hard sub in a faster and efficient way??thx

u need to transcode it again with the subs, that is why it takes a long time. Plus it all depends on your bitrate settings too for the final output file size. If u want it fast, choose the lowest quality settings with 1 pass and you're done but don't expect good quality out of it

koayty : H264 also has vfw but lacks in some settings. So it is supported in VirtualDub, just that it won't be 100% compliant.
