bought this PU leather foam for Rift from Liang..not bad actually for the price compare to VR Cover price.
The only issue is since it used the original face plate(need to remove the sponge foam) instead of custom plate like vr cover it seems to me a bit too tight at first..but after few minute it seems ok la. Less comfort but less sweat on my face for long session game thumbup.gif

There is like pros and cons between both. Vive has better tracking, while rift has like better touch controls. Personally I'd go with the Vive, but it's pretty much personal preference. Go check out video comparison and what not and decide I guess.

been watching and reading quite a number of review, still cant decide until now. i guess unless i tried side by side, then i wont be able to decide which one is the best. now the only things that i can conclude is either to get the room tracking with vive or simple tracking with rift, although rift now support room tracking with additional sensor.
anybody here has both unit? hows the differences if you compare side by side?

There's pros and cons for both but, here's some plus point for Rift compared to Vive

- cheaper (even with 3 sensors still cheaper)
- removable batteries (no worries about battery life deterioration when aged)
- lighter and more ergonomic controllers
- smaller, simpler and lighter headset, smaller and simpler means better looking too (subjective)
- headset cable simpler than Vive
- comes with built in earphone (Vive have to add on another RM500)

And since I'm selling Oculus Rift, if you ever want to try out demo, you can contact me. Atleast you can see how insignificant the difference of tracking quality is between Rift and Vive.

yup both have prons and cons. The 1 good things about Vive is that its official available here while the Rift need to import so no local warranty

i used 3 sensor on my Rift and got no tracking issue on my 2m x 2.3m play area..unless u have larger than 2.5m² area it should be no problem to track
Attached Image

Ok i add more good things about Rift la :icon_idea.gif
- The new Oculus Home 2.0 software are much polish compare to Steam VR that for me abit mess. Its like comparing IOS and Android
- More AAA games on Oculus store..FB has dumped 500 million to developers to create games on it and 90% games on Steam are compatible with Rift while Vive u'll need 3rd party Revive to play
- Better touch controller. And the replacement cost is much cheaper. Vive single controller would cost you $130 compare to $100 with 2 controller + extra sensor on Rift
- Better free games inside the box (Robo Recall, Dead and Buried & Luckys Tale + creative apps like Quill and Medium)

I've used Vive few times before and few friends of mine that own Vive they seems likes Rift also because of the touch controller. It smaller size and have thumbstick instead of track pad. So grab Oculus Rift from shirley_andy laugh.gif oh btw i bought from Amazon last year and no problem so far after a year using it extensively

just to add, the playarea guide based on the picture attached is on the conservative/safe side.

I've managed to set up playarea of 7' x 7' with just 2 sensor.

7' is around 2 meter la..yup with a right position of the sensor, 360 room scale still can works wif 2 sensor. But to be safe just add another sensor..they even include extra 5m usb 3.0 extension cable

Lol i guess im the only Vive user here. Its only fair if i give my point of view.
Take not that I do not have the rift, but i do have the Lenovo explorer (windows mixed reality).

I am please with my Vive, and if given a choice again, i would still buy the vive instead of the rift for several reasons.
- it only requires 1 usb and 1 hdmi port.
The two tracking light house only need power source and users are free to put it anywhere without worrying of distance to PC. Though recommended to be opposite each other, its not a must to work. But obviously putting it opposite each other gives a better overall coverage(less blind spots).
The Hmd require a power outlet too.
(this is unlike the rift which require 4 usb ports to work for room scale (1 hmd, 3 tracking cameras)

-Head tracking for both is the same, but Vive hand presence is far superior than the rift, being able to do actions fast and accurate. Ofcoz if ur not a hardcore VR gamer, u probably wont notice it.
example 1 example 2

-uses SteamVR right out of the box. this is without any 3rd party app that may hog ur PC resources (eg, rift and WMR still needs to run their software background while using steamvr). Also in our demographics, steamvr games are always cheaper than oculus stores, due to steam's regional pricing. (eg, Beat saber is RM39 on steamvr, and $19.99 on oculus store).
Also, steamvr is open to "other download source VR apps"

- Vive hmd(without DAS) is the same weight as the oculus rift now. (Vive hmd is 468 grams, Rift is 470grams)

- Vive can adjust lens to face distance to accommodate for those with glasses. However, quality without glasses are essentially similar for both hmd.

- More accessories (first and 3rd party). Vive offers alot of accessories, such as trackers, guns, etc. 3rd party accessories are also easy and cheaper to find, such as silicon protector for hand controllers, face foam, lens protector.

- Vive is official here now. Warranty is less of an issue.
- Oculus rift is controlled by oculus, just like Apple's strict walled garden. If the company discontinues or neglect the rift, Rifts devices may lock up.

But like all products, there are some cons,
- HTC is infamous of its warranty service. May take months to get a replacement or worst, get charged for repair+transport, or transport(if refuse to repair), or never get back the item if owner refuses to pay transport cost.
- Vive is also infamously known for its horrible track pad rubber dislocation. (both of mine dislocated. i decided to open them up myself and elephant glue them back. no problem since.
- does not come with its own headphone? not sure if this is a cons. Vive does provide earphones in the original box. but if u prefer the headphones, u can purchase them as extra.
- no thumbstick. sad.gif but at least the controllers are ambidextrous?

U can always try the vive in a VR cafe. I have not seen any VR cafe with the rift yet. closest is EXA Global which uses DK2 >.<

Wow. The pro and cons is basically almost the same for both. I think better go and try those first in vr lab or at midvalley.

Went to an Esport event at APU, beat saber competition organised by Kitamen.

Seems like Vive may not be a good VR for long hours public demo use.

The controller need to be charged, meaning halfway through they'll need to charge the controllers and the VR is basically unplayable until its charged.

So unless they have another pair of controller, can't use Vive for continuous long hours use. Unlike just swapping out used battery for Oculus Touch controllers.
