Wow, so sophisticated until got shot ratio and all that. Definitely must learn from you. thumbup.gif How do you like Cartier's Declaration d'un Soir so far? I sniff-tested it before (and many others) but can't make my mind up.

SOTN - By Kilian Amber Oud

user posted image

Finally i am going to review the arabian night series of kilian starting with the lightest of them - Amber oud

if u like ambre sultan and at the same time dislike the coarseness of the scent u will love this

if u like oud wood like of oud fragrance, u will also love this

if u are looking for something animalic, barnyard, u wont find it in here

Wat i get from the opening is bay and benzoin. The oud in here are close to minimal and very soft n creamy. One thing for sure is that kilian do not make oud the center stage of all his arabian nights creation other than using the name and gold platted bottle to charge higher price.

Doesnt project much n linear... but it is smooth.. treat it as a very high grade of Ambre Sultan then u are ok with it.

Rose Oud, i can just rave on n on how wonderful this blend with my eyes close and if i can tell u which is rose oud if u give me blind sniff a bunch of rose oud frags lol... other time for this one

Guess who has finally decided to join Ambre Sultan. Just received my Chergui in the mail yesterday. I got it for RM285 shipped when EURO was weaker from an eBay seller in Germany (http://www.ebay.com/itm/SERGE-LUTENS-Chergui-Eau-de-Parfum-EdP-50-ml-/161447156679). Based on the batch code, it was made in Feb 2014, which I believe is the newest formulation. Mine is brown color instead of reddish brown as you can tell from the picture. From what I read, there has been a few reformulations since its creation in 2005. Compared to the decant I've tried from Astroboy, mine is less sweet and balanced with more incense tobacco on top. Dry down is the same I feel. Longevity is about the same (6-8 hours) but projection is softer in the beginning and amps up a bit when it reaches the dry down stage one hour later.

Pardon the blur image. Shot using my budget mobile phone.

My 2nd vintage BaV (EdC) 60ml (won it in a bid) has also arrived yesterday. Together with the 30ml canister, it was sealed NIB except the 3rd one, which is without box and partially used. Yes, you can tell from the picture I love it so much. It's also my SOTD today. Classic orientalism (Shalimar) meets sexy animalistic Absolue Pour le Soir. The good thing about vintage EdC is that it performs like a modern EdT. Put it on before work this morning and it's still on my arms until now.

Although it's made only in 1962, which is fairy recent for a vintage (for me), it's made with notes that are common in fragrances of the 1920's (my favorite). Think of Habanita by Molinard (1921), My Sin by Lanvin (1924), Toujours Moi by Corday (1924) and Shalimar (1925). You can read about them at www.yesterdaysperfume.com. Barbara Herman writes fantastic reviews.

Good news for those looking for Man in Black. It's now available at BBW for RM250 (100ml) :-
- my.bestbuy-world.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=175_176&products_id=34274

They have also added some new stocks.

Wanted to get cheaper priced L'Air de Rien from essenza-nobile.de but it's out of stock (it was still available earlier this month). Emailed them and they told me there won't be restocking for this scent because they are phasing out Miller Harris brand.

Do you mean CK Obsession for men or women version? I've tried both but personally I prefer the women version better. The women version to my nose is cinnamon, civet, amber and vanilla. It's simply just sexilicious. The men version is quite nice too. Cinnamon and vanilla with a spicy undertone.

With my limited sampling experience, the closest match to CK Obsession for women is vintage Tabu by Dana (EdC). Tabu to my nose is spicy Youth Dew meets animalic oriental CK Obsession for women. I'm afraid I did not answer your question because vintage Tabu is not readily available in our local market (but ebay is). The new version is also available cheaply on fragrancex.com.

With that said, you can always lookup fragrantica.com for similar scents. This is Tabu's :-

IMO, clubbing scents tend go well with sweating body. Le Male is one. Another two I can think of is One Million and Black by Mandarina Duck. As for scents that go well with cigarette/cigar/pipe tobacco :-
- Vintage - Habanita by Molinard, Tabac Blond by Caron
- Designer - Michael by Michael Kors, Pure Havane by Thierry Mugler, Polo (Green), Spicebomb by Viktor&Rolf, London by Burberry, Dreamer by Versace etc.
- Niche - Chergui by Serge Lutens, Acqua di Cuba by Santa Maria Novella, Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford, Herod by Parfums de Marly etc.

Feel free to chip in, bros.

ya obsession for men.
my bottle still surviving...but looking for other options once it eventually runs out...seeing as its also supposedly long time discontinued already and local supplier also never bother to bring it in.

I believe it's still in production because I've seen CK Obsession for women made early this year at a discounter in Singapore (based on the batch code). Although CK official website doesn't list it, it's common for them to push only newer releases just like every time I walk into a new Chanel counter and ask to try say, Chanel Coco, the SA will at the same time hand me either Bleu de Chanel or Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme. I think you may have better chance of finding CK Obsession at discounters and of course, online. Good luck on your hunt!
