i feel like i am even more qualified then dell technician or sales.

called and ask if i can change my HDD to SSHD, they dunno. asked the technician about msata, they have no idea what is msata. are they just refering to a list of questions and answers?

I think the ppl in this forum is better qualified than them =p

yeah, so does anyone here know if i can change my HDD to SSHD? i dont think the 9.5mm 1TB SSHD can fit, but the 500GB is 7mm only. should be ok right?
*
Its only 2mm difference, may cause slight bulging. Maybe, but I'm not sure. I didn't check when I opened up my 5480. I replaced the 4GB RAM with 8gb RAM and found out that there is no slot for MSata like 5470.

U can try by inserting a 9mm normal 2.5in HDD to see if it fits..

Dell Vostro 5470 is equipped with a touch screen, has a good touch-screen experience on Windows 8 system. In fact Vostro 5470 can be seen as an upgraded touch version of because Vostro 5470 inherits the 5460's design, thin and atmosphere. And if you really get this laptop, you can download the drivers from here: download dell vostro 5470 drivers.

so does the new 5480 model... It also has the touch screen but I opted for the non-touch as I'm using Windows 7 due to company policy and support issue.

Can't find any review of the 5480 lol. Too new i guess. But the vostro series is really underrated. Very good price for the performance, weight, and batt life. But if it had gt940m would have been better, since the old one had 740m tongue.gif

Guys I have two questions.. How long does the 51 Whr battery last for your 5480?

Also seems like 5480 comes with a 1 year Pro-Support NBD on-site warranty only. The Inspiron models have 2 years.

If I buy online, the i5 unit costs RM2399, which is RM100 more than outside resellers, at RM2299.

I'm wondering whether I can still purchase additional warranty years myself after buying a unit from external reseller?

How do I proceed with buying the warranty from Dell? Is it the same price as what is quoted on Dell website during configuration of order, as follows?

2 Yr Carry-In Service after Remote Diagnosis +RM 167
3 Yr Carry-In Service after Remote Diagnosis +RM 393

2 Yr ProSupport: Next Business Day Onsite Service +RM 256
3 Yr ProSupport: Next Business Day Onsite Service +RM 554

2 Yr Onsite Service +RM 167
3 Yr Onsite Service +RM 393

Also I don't think I need to pay for on-site service which is quite pricey, I'll just bring to the service centre during wekeends if there's a need.

What's the difference between ProSupport & Onsite Services? I'd rather go for RM167 vs the RM256 if the only difference is NBD or within next few days.

Also what's the difference between carry-in service and onsite-service? They have the same price. Should I choose onsite then?

In this case is it better to buy a Thinkpad E440 @ RM2449 (vs 2299), which comes with 1TB (vs 500GB), almost similar processing power (i5-4210M vs i5-5500U), a DVD burner included (vs no optical drive), as well as 62 Whr (vs 51 Whr).

Seems like it could be a better deal here (RM200 extra for the additional battery life, DVD writer, and HDD space).

ProSupport is when the technician will come to wherever you want him to go to fix your pc.

carry in service is when you have to bring your pc to the service center

dell the vostro 5480 is lighter, thinner and the processor is not similar. one is 4th gen and the other is 5th gen. i would suggest you get the 5480 with i7-5500U with 1TB and GT830.

Thanks for your reply, though I bought the cheaper option of i5-5200U today, comes with 500GB HDD (should be enough for me) + 8GB flash, seems like a hybrid! Paid for the onsite-service too to 3 Yrs, not ProSupport. Total damage approx. RM2700. Not too bad, I guess. Would be receiving it only in 2 - 2.5 weeks time, what a wait!

How long do you get out of the battery on browsing/videos?

usually if you are getting it directly to Dell, you can speak to their sales agents on their website.
they will allow customization (to some degree) like RAM and also usually throw in freebies/ better prices.
