I bought 2 units of 5460 for my kids early 2013 and I'm thinking of getting the 5470 version before yearend closing for tax rebate purposes coz i didn't claim it when I bought for my kids back in 2013.
And I was thinking of replacing the HDD with SSD for both speed and weight. Will it work? I have no problems with weak wifi card coz there plenty of adapters out there.

QUOTE(spikyz @ Feb 11 2015, 08:33 PM) At curve now. Really intrigued by 5480. Its sleek and looks can do the job. However I would like to know two things. Battery life. And WiFi issues. Is it major? I gotten my 5480 few days ago, so far no issue on wifi. Its using the 7265 wireless unlike 7260 in the 5470. Not sure if that is better. Battery life? Haven't used it extensively to test..

QUOTE(onnying88 @ Mar 25 2015, 04:07 PM) Ok noted. By the way did the newer version 5480 will face the same weak wifi issue? Anyone using 5480? If same then i will just stick back to the 5470 So far didn't feel any issues with wifi. No disconnection problems.. and 5480 uses the same 7mm HDD.

QUOTE(cursebreaker @ Mar 25 2015, 04:20 PM) i feel like i am even more qualified then dell technician or sales. called and ask if i can change my HDD to SSHD, they dunno. asked the technician about msata, they have no idea what is msata. are they just refering to a list of questions and answers? I think the ppl in this forum is better qualified than them =p yeah, so does anyone here know if i can change my HDD to SSHD? i dont think the 9.5mm 1TB SSHD can fit, but the 500GB is 7mm only. should be ok right? Its only 2mm difference, may cause slight bulging. Maybe, but I'm not sure. I didn't check when I opened up my 5480. I replaced the 4GB RAM with 8gb RAM and found out that there is no slot for MSata like 5470. U can try by inserting a 9mm normal 2.5in HDD to see if it fits..

QUOTE(christinebelle @ Mar 26 2015, 04:20 PM) Dell Vostro 5470 is equipped with a touch screen, has a good touch-screen experience on Windows 8 system. In fact Vostro 5470 can be seen as an upgraded touch version of because Vostro 5470 inherits the 5460's design, thin and atmosphere. And if you really get this laptop, you can download the drivers from here: download dell vostro 5470 drivers. so does the new 5480 model... It also has the touch screen but I opted for the non-touch as I'm using Windows 7 due to company policy and support issue.

QUOTE(evofantasy @ Apr 5 2015, 02:41 PM) usually if you are getting it directly to Dell, you can speak to their sales agents on their website. they will allow customization (to some degree) like RAM and also usually throw in freebies/ better prices. i upgraded on my own. RAM cost RM254.

Any solution is greatly appreciated. I've installed both dell quickset and 7465 driver try reinstalling the driver from Dell Website. I had issues with on/off touchpad FN+ESC and Dell support asked me to reinstall the driver..

QUOTE(hadeanmars @ Apr 11 2015, 01:32 PM) I did reinstall the drivers. My fn+f2 only toggles the airplane mode, the wifi stays powered off. In ubuntu I'm able to use fn+f2 to toggle wifi. I think it's the fn key driver problem. Do you have quicket installed? What's the version your using and what OS? EDIT: btw i found that the fn+f2 is not turning on my bluetooth as well. EDIT 2: Finally manage to solve this. Took me 2 whole days of experiment. If you face a similar issue where your intel 7265 wifi option is grey out and cannot be turned on by fn+f2, open up device manager, look for Airplane Switch under Human Interface Devices, right click and select uninstall. Before you click ok, make sure to TICK delete the driver from system. Once uninstalled and deleted, scan for hardware changes to make sure it is really uninstalled and deleted. If it still pops up, repeat the step to remove it. Once it is removed, reboot your PC and voila, your fn+f2 is now toggling wifi instead of airplane mode.good to know that problem solved. I installed Windows 7 on my 5480 but didn't face any issue thou.
